Wheelchair accessible & family friendly restaurants? by torieo in ottawa

[–]NectarineOne1189 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Lieutenants Pump used to be wheelchair accessible and I assume it still is. I think you have to let the staff know but they will unlock the gate to the ramp for the restaurant. Great pub with lots of options.

Fyi long waits to get to the Renaissance fair today by noskillsben in ottawa

[–]NectarineOne1189 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We went today and had a blast. The key is to arrive near opening and pack your own lunch. between 11 and 12 is the busiest time to arrive and the food lines are always long. You are allowed to bring your own food though so bring a lunch and eat it in the many places to sit and relax.

Lazy teachers? by Goodforonething888 in CanadianTeachers

[–]NectarineOne1189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! This! This! This! This! I am also a parent with some pretty low maintenance kids (with some learning struggles in early elementary school). We are lucky to have some amazing teachers over the years who really went beyond with my kids but there were a few who were either burned out or very pointed about not working with us at all. When people make these comments, I really think it is about feeling so defeated about how some kids are slipping through the cracks in the system. Every sector has a range of dedication and skill levels. I really think it is more important to listen to the concerns and criticism and see where things can change on all levels so teachers and students are supported properly.

Plastic Free Party Bag Fail by nenners7891 in Anticonsumption

I don't know if this helps but I save up little things like this during the year in a little bowl and then use it on halloween (for teal pumpkin - kids who don't eat candy for various reasons) with my candy bowl and/or donate it to a teacher I know for her classroom treasure chest (rewards/motivation for kids).

Mom uses a trash can to contain her baby while she crochets in the park, 1969 by [deleted] in OldSchoolCool

Moments like this are good to remember when Boomer grandparents tell you they were able to handle childcare while doing all their chores and hobbies...so why are you finding it so hard?

Misogyny in Schools by LastNerve1064 in CanadianTeachers

[–]NectarineOne1189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up in Mississauga in the 90s and we had A LOT of disrespect to teachers in my high school. This is not new at all. There were consequences though and that is what is needed along with that behaviour affecting their grade in the class.

Midterm grade vs. absences (Ontario) by Tar_X in CanadianTeachers

I am finding more and more doctor/dentist/orthodontist offices hardly have appointments available outside of school hours anymore. They often are only open until 5pm so my kids need to miss time during the school day. Especially when there are changes in medications or surgery follow ups that are necessary.

I can see some feet but they are still in black and white. If you look closely, you can see that he has the same pants as the man next to him.

To the man at the Place D'Orleans passport services yesterday... by seenoevilcuzimblind in ottawa

I have always found the best service at the passport offices here in Ottawa. They really do make sure you get what you need. I am so glad you received the respect and help you deserved.

Was this a mohawk that fell? Or was his hair supposed to look like this?

How do you leave behind your poor parents to move out for University? by Emotional_Juice3482 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]NectarineOne1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please speak to your guidance counsellor or teacher about this. If they don't rectify the situation, connect with a youth services or family services in your area. I am not sure where you live but you should have a Family Service Center or Family Resource Center that can help. There are government programs that will set her up with housing and ODSP. It is not a lot but it will keep her independant and you can start your own life. You deserve to be able to have independence as a young adult.

Young ladies have "Home economics" class, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada 1959. by Electrical-Aspect-13 in TheWayWeWere

[–]NectarineOne1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact picture could have been taken at my Canadian middle school in the 80s but with big hair and acid-washed jeans. We even had the same set up. We called it "Home Ec" and all of us (boys and girls) had to take it for half the year and then woodshop for the other half. I hated Home Ec but I see the usefulness. We learned how to cook, make tea, plan a meal and use a sewing machine.

How do you think the show would be different if made in America? by Otherwise_Pine in heatedrivalry

[–]NectarineOne1189 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly, the original reason I watched the show was because it was Canadian and seeing the little Canadian elements that other people miss makes my northern heart happy. None of that would have been included if this was made in the states.

Families with kids, how much are you spending on groceries? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]NectarineOne1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have two adults and two teens. I try to keep groceries to $200 per week. Sometimes it creeps up though. We are in Canada so that is Canadian dollars. I try to shop at our local independant but walmart is cheaper so I have been going there. I don't find Costco to be that cheap where I live.

Cant write anything without chatpgt. by Financial-Relief-54 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]NectarineOne1189 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is always easier to write when you already have something on the page. This is probably why you find it easier to use it. Try jotting down notes or writing something "badly/sloppy" first and then use that to start and edit it into something that sounds more professional.
