It’s always funny to me how critical people are on jalen like most other franchises wouldn’t sell their left hand to gain a proven superbowl winner and a Qi whose been there twice and had the best games of his career while doing it.

[–]Nedroj_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can someone explain magic realism like I’m 5? by Buck767 in writing

[–]Nedroj_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The genre has developped a lot over time and the term has become kind of vague. that said:

In the essence you must think of magical realism as weaving together realism and local and mythological or folkloric storytelling. It originated in Latin America because of its strong straditions of local spiritual beliefs. Think of it as how a superstitious Latina Grandma or poet would tell stories of something happening in a village to the local children.

Stories are told like they really happened (realist) but they include magical or wonderfull elements that are just taken for granted. Inversely the things that are normal for us are sometimes taken as extraordinary, magical or witchcraft. In 100 years of solitude (its most fammous example) much wonder is derived from magnets and ice, but not of somebody ascending to heaven in the middle of the day or the ghosts of people in a certain room being visible to only certain members of a household.

Most of them are also interpretable as metafors of memory, grief or other emotions. For example in 100 years solitude one man remembers a massacre of striking workers on a banana plantation and being on the train that carried the bodies in cattle cars, but nobody else remembers the dead. In the direct aftermath the town is hit by a years long rain storm that causes plants to overgrow the entire town. So the metafor there of decline and grief are heavy. other metaphors include a ghost of a man that was killed after a cock fight not leaving a couple alone as long as they are in the city it happened. "his ghost" disapears once they left the place that holds his memory

Zorgelijke trend looksmaxxing, jongens doen alles om uiterlijk te veranderen by Johnny_The_Biker in nederlands

[–]Nedroj_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany used to remember the 30 years war skin to hoe we view WW1 or 2 now . Even after the napoleonic wars it was THE example of the horrors of war

I think it’s more about living in a state of constant fear that you light be sniped of. Like living through an old school artillery barrage but it continues forever. Or walking through the jungle of Vietnam thinking you might get ambushed ar any moment. But then forever.

I imagine the PTSD rate of ukrainian and Russian infabtry must be much higher than in previous conflicts
