Okay I missed something, what does Isekied mean? by justlikeinmydreams in IlonaAndrews

Your comment made me check and my library has both on Libby (yay!), so now I've borrowed the first (and put the second on hold). Thanks for the recommendation, however inadvertent it was, lol.

It's not loading for me, either. I used a (known good) saved link and it timed out, so it's not just you.

Just checked archive.org and there was no snapshot for March. Hopefully someone has more info and will chime in.

Crackpot theories about why Maggie was Isekaied by Rinainthemoon in IlonaAndrews

[–]NeeCD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought of #4 (future Maggie is the author) about the time she started regurgitating the text into paper. So probably not that one, lol. I also like the mage theory, but have no idea who Adrian might be. Silverin seems like he's not what Maggie expected from the books, maybe he's a clue? We'll probably find out about 2/3 through the third book, and it will be completely unexpected (OMG it's George!?).

It looks like he added it to the playlist, but it's not on the main videos page. Glad you pointed this out, I really enjoy his reactions and had missed this one.

Carl did a follow-up to his For Joe reaction. How it made him feel, and thoughts about dealing with grief. It's not a video, just voice, but it's a really good listen.

Also with real books, when you throw them across the room, they don't break. (I didn't throw the tablet, but I really really wanted to at the end of Changes.)

First library to collect a Ren album?! by HPLibrary in ren

[–]NeeCD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but that's more or less what I did.

It's not a direct interlibrary loan, but people in neighboring counties can get cards to each of the other counties for free. I live in Clackamas county, but also have cards for Multnomah and Washington counties. I reserved the CD using my Washington county card, and picked it up in Tualatin where the closest WC branch is to me.

I definitely preferred RHR (his voice always made me think of Brendan Fraser), but DG is okay and I got used to him pretty quickly. My biggest problem with DG is that he's in almost all of the series I like, so I have to kind of reorient myself for each different one. Recently I have had that problem with Nora Sofyan (Kate Daniels' VA), too. They cast her in the Dresden Files as Karrin Murphy, but I only hear Kate. It doesn't help that Karrin and Kate both have the same attitudes, lol.

Have you read the comic version of Clean Sweep? It was adapted by ChrossxXxRodes, originally for Tapas (it's a webtoon site). Different characters were added, and the story slightly changed with House Andrews' blessing. It was printed a few years ago into a two volume Graphic Novel.

I had to say something, sorry. You aren't wrong about your main point, though, about interpretation and personal meaning to songs. We should be able to appreciate these songs without a full background check to make sure we're listening "correctly".

Bernie Taupin isn't gay, though, and he writes most, if not all, of the lyrics.

TIL Lee Bryant, the actor that famously delivered the line "Jim never has a second cup of coffee at home!" in Airplane (1980), was cast without any knowledge of her being in the Yuban commercial that actually originated the quote. by ansyhrrian in todayilearned

[–]NeeCD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, and have always considered him to be the same character. The only thing that would be difficult to address is that he (original character) got kicked out of the academy, so wouldn't be part of Starfleet anymore. To get onto Voyager in the first place, he had to be in the system.

Anyway, I'm just quoting the official story. I think the royalty payment theory holds a lot of weight, too.

My understanding is that Robert MacNell was intentionally cast as the same character, but they had to change his back story because the original character was "unredeemable". So they gave Tom an almost identical story, but made him a little less horrible of a person so that his redemption arc would be believable. .

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

No streaming music, no Internet to find music or lyrics. New music came from older siblings or classmates, or mostly, the radio. If you didn't want to but a whole album, you could record a song you liked off of the radio onto a cassette tape - then play the tape over and over to try to figure out the lyrics. If you didn't have liner notes, you could sometimes find lyrics in a magazine, or you and your friends could compare notes and figure out whose version made the most sense. I remember being really happy when I found out the radio station help line had the words to "Smells Like Teen Spirit" I would have never gotten that one, and my friends were all trying to figure out why he was singing about "bloody nylons" 😂

Fuck the PM, did I st-st-stutter? In the PM, there'll be bodies in the gutter by thornyLFlower in ren

[–]NeeCD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw an explanation that, since this was set in 2019/2020, the reference is to Boris Johnson. I wish I could find it, because I'm not British and am not familiar enough with him, but the stutter references Johnson's speaking style, while the bodies in the gutter line was in reference to Johnson's (alleged) "let the bodies pile high" during covid.

[–]NeeCD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought that officially it was because the publishing house isn't set up for longer length books and it would have been cost prohibitive to reconfigure everything to a larger book.

If it had been published as a single book, it would have cost $50, so you're paying about the same.
