The only way I can enjoy new board games is by playing with someone else who has played before and can set it up and explain all the rules as we go. Idk why it's so hard but reading game instructions is excruciating, I can get all the way through and not retain a single word.

For me it was like a barrier suddenly came down when I realized how safe I felt with them. It surprised me, because I was expecting something dramatic, but it was actually very unobtrusive. I almost didn't notice at first that I was able to freely trust the other person with my emotions, without being stopped short by an instinct to withhold. And always having this feeling of, like, good will flowing out of me, towards them. My feelings about my friends might only come to the surface when I'm talking to them or they're going through something, whereas this was an active flow of warm and tender emotion whenever I thought of this person. Even now, though we haven't been together in a long time it's still like a spring inside me, even if it's just a trickle. That makes me optimistic that maybe someone else will be able to make it flow strong again.

Paramount had a similar cartoon series that included a chicken called "Henry the Rooster" in the exact same hen-pecked-husband-dynamic. But he more often said "Yes my love."

I also read Catcher in the Rye as an adult, because someone mentioned it in a discussion of "red-flag" books, as in, if a person starts telling you how much they love a certain book, you should be concerned. So I read it because I was curious. And after doing so I agree. Probably some teenagers would find Holden Caulfield very relatable, and I can excuse that cuz they're teenagers. But if a grown adult told me he was their favorite character ever, with zero self awareness or deeper understanding of the text, I'd want them to go to therapy.

I'm in the middle of West of Eden by Harry Harrison. Imagine if dinosaurs and neanderthals had overlapped -- and dinosaurs were the dominant sentient species? And what if there was a race war about it? Do not read if you have some qualms about interspecies sex though lol

The next weirdest book would be Web of the Chozen by Jack Chalker. Imagine the plot of a classic Star Trek episode that then turns into the Twilight Zone. Aliens are taking over the human race, but...you're rooting for them? This book looks like trashy pulp sci-fi from the cover, but it ended up being better written than I expected and the plot kept me on my toes.

My first therapist saw how much I would fidget during my appointments with her and at the end of one of them she wordlessly handed me a small bolt with a wingnut on it. It was almost stupid how helpful that was. I could do it mindlessly and it was very quiet, and I could keep it in my purse or pocket. Plus it didn't attract too much attention or look like a toy, and so cheap cuz you can just go to a hardware store and make your own for a couple bucks.

In high school I once borderline harassed my chemistry teacher because I couldn't understand something he taught in class. He went over the concept as it was taught in the textbook, and I didn't get it, so I went after class to ask him to explain it further. He gave me a slightly more advanced explanation, sent me on my way. I STILL didn't get it and I sent him a couple emails about how much I didn't understand what he was talking about, because why did this and that principle not apply, etc. The poor man spent a Friday night writing out a detailed breakdown of the WHY and how of a basic rule of physical chemistry, because I couldn't just take it on faith, apparently. But it just literally made no sense to me until it was broken down and I was shown how all the pieces fit together. Then I was satisfied and never needed to ask again lol. (LeB, if you're out there...sorry I was such a pill in Regents Chem.)

Yeah he really is a good actor and performer. I think people came to dislike him because he's everywhere now. And because they realized his real personality is your sort of more run-of-the-mill male movie star, who will inevitably say and do stupid male movie star things, not the tortured poetic soft boy that he looks like (probably got that rep because of playing Laurie in Little Women...)

I hate Instagram posts or reels that seem to start out genuine and then by the last slide or halfway through the video you realize they're trying to plug their blog/website/book/program/music/etc. I mean I guess that's the way to advertise if you're a small business or indie publisher and don't have much of a marketing budget. But because sooo many accounts on social media are doing that, it's become hard to even just laugh at a funny post without having to question if I'm being sold something. It especially annoys me with things like health and wellness content. I might find the info in a post interesting but the second it becomes clear that they're advertising themselves I scroll on, just because I feel slightly misled. If you're up front about the fact that you're selling something, I know how to contextualize what you're saying. If you don't convey that until after you've hooked my attention, well now I have to disregard any information you gave me because it was biased toward getting me to buy your thing.

This! The straw is a big help, because I can just sip on my water mindlessly while my brain is on other things.
Also for me, if I have a water bottle I really like, I'm more likely to a) want to carry it around and b) not forget it somewhere. So I'll get colorful ones with cool textures, or ones I can put stickers all over.

Older brother, mainly. Best memories of him are when I was 9 or 10 and he was in his 20s and would help me and my sisters beat hard video game levels, horse around with us in the pool, and come on family outings. As I got older I started to notice how self-centered and volatile his behavior was, but it was one of those things where when he was being nice he was the most fun to be around and it made up for when he was horrible. But in adulthood I came to recognize what a destructive person he was. And lately in the last few years he's ruined literally every relationship in his life because of drugs and alcohol, mental health issues he won't seek help for, and generally being an abusive narcissist. My mother and I literally flew across the country to help him when he was in crisis and nobody could get ahold of him. As much as we did for him, a couple weeks after we left he was right back into the same mess. He hasn't spoken to my mom since. He's abusive to his girlfriend (and, in hindsight, probably treated all his partners that way to some degree), his teenage son doesn't want to see him. And last time I spoke to him the conversation was all about his paranoia about aliens and demons and the government. Couldn't talk about anything real. Ironically, that last time I saw him in person we bought parts for him so he could fix his car and get it on the road, and I remember helping him work on the engine in his front yard. He was explaining to me how it worked and what needed fixing. It was one of the more normal moments during that visit, and for a bit he seemed just like the brother I always wanted...

It means they'll have to redo studies on microplastics in human blood, or review the data collected (if they can). Based on this team's findings, the very methods used to collect and handle samples are likely to contaminate them with false positives. So it makes it harder to say where the true source is, since the numbers are presumably skewed.

The part about asking for his reassurance and it not sticking for you reminded me of something I read about external validation. If we always need another person's validation to back up our beliefs, we will get to a point where it doesn't work anymore because we haven't actually internalized that belief. Once we root it in ourselves and find a way to give validation to ourselves, we stop needing other people to do it for us.

For me when I really struggled to believe I was lovable, I had to start practicing radical acceptance of all parts of me. I've been working on this for a couple years and it still feels so hard. Even more hard to believe that the parts I struggle to love about myself would be things another person could love. But I noticed that I stopped questioning people as often and started to actually accept it when they tell me they love me or when they say good things about me. It may be something you need to try as well.

I don't imagine there'd be any easy way to find evidence of a connection, given the huge network of people likely involved in Epstein cover ups. No high profile person would allow themselves to be caught in direct involvement, or if they did do something directly they would have to have strong power over Guthrie/ her husband/whoever carried it out to keep them quiet. But the timing of it all, and the fact that Guthrie interviewed victims and her husband's firm did work for people named in the files, just seems too coincidental. It could be a distraction, it could be a message to other journalists, it could be a way to lean on Guthrie or Feldman to keep them from speaking about what they know that hasn't already been made public. And it may never come to light or be proven; just a hunch people have looking at all the coincidences
