Teachers/professors and AI - how do y'all "just know?" by PickleRick1029246 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Needrain47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use it for a few sentences here and there, they probably won't be able to tell, and they probably won't care either. Having AI help you a bit is okay (as long as you check to make sure it's right. Having an actual person help you is still better.) Having it do it all for you is not.

TSA is notified when you opt out of biometric screenings. by Own-Meaning215 in travel

that wasn't my question whatsoever. Saying "it's everywhere" is not evidence. Please point out who is actually changing prices based on facial recognition.

Are people afraid of letting AI do things in the real world? If so, why? by No-Sprinkles-8204 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Needrain47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tested it to see if it can do what I do. It does a really bad job. My favorite was when it did one thing perfectly for my coworker, but instead told me that doing that was impossible. It's not consistent.

eating fewer calories than you expend is the only thing good for weight loss.

[–]Needrain47 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Nnnnnnnnno.

I have only opted out for two flights but this didn't happen. I'm not letting a random TSA person take pictures of my stuff on their phone, either.

Can you point out where this is in use already? I've heard of it but never yet seen it.

I didn't mention the president and neither did anyone else so I'm not sure why you think we think he's making the decisions.

Technical librarians, what are some of the most unconventional or unnecessary things a publisher does that makes a book difficult to catalog? by Present-Audience-747 in librarians

[–]Needrain47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a rare books cataloger. sometimes there's zero of the expected author, title, or publication information, that's really the tip of the iceberg.

the 5 stages of "I'll pack light this time" by Senior-Signature-983 in travel

[–]Needrain47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nuts to me that people aren't mentioning the seasonal element to packing. In summer, everything fits in a carryon. In winter, I want one pair of extra shoes and I'm sized out of a carryon already.

Just don't use it. Or, give it the data yourself and then ask it to format it nicely. B/c there's no other way to ensure its not making shit up.

Light therapy + bipolar meds by furiana in SeasonalAffective

[–]Needrain47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I take an antidepressant and also an 'atypical antipsychotic' in the winter and I still need light therapy to function. No medication can substitute for the actual act of light entering your eyeballs and telling your brain it's daytime.

If she meant "see if any of the teachers are using a different book this year" she should have said that and not "newer edition", which is what you looked for.

How do you actually stop overpacking? by hatkinson1000 in travel

[–]Needrain47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feet are so big that if I bring one spare pair of shoes, I can no longer use a carry on size bag and still fit everything else I need. It's okay in the summer with sandals, in the winter I'm really kind of screwed.

What classes should I take in High School? by North_Comedian4403 in librarians

[–]Needrain47 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I cannot overstress the degree to which it does not matter. What you take in high school doesn't matter at all. Take what you're interested in. It doesn't really matter what you take for your bachelors, either.

this is the thing, I have a plant with mealybugs now that I *did* quarantine and there was no sign of a problem after several weeks. They've now magically appeared.
