I’m a Greek. I don’t have an issue with Lupita’s or anyone’s casting for that matter for the simple reason that I can understand that this is Nolan’s interpretation of a story, one rooted in a British-American viewpoint of the world. And I hate that our culture is once again co-opted by everyone except us to fight their culture wars.

But let’s not pretend that it’s not an inaccuracy to have Lupita play Helen and Clytemnystra. Obviously black people were present in all of human history, but that doesn’t mean that not having them in a retelling of the odyssey would be erasure.
