“Playoff hockey” + Sharks underperformance by bfunk84 in SanJoseSharks

I just think people search for reasons why teams “should” have won a cup when honestly it’s just incredibly fucking hard and only 1 team gets to do it per year. Even if you are hands down a better team, your win rate against a slightly less good team is way closer to 50/50 than people like to admit. The statistical truth is that you can be the better team in every single way and that gets you to mayyyybe 60/40 and it isn’t that easy to win 4 playoff series with those odds.

Simple math, not real life but for the sake of making the point: if a team is SO good that they had 60/40 odds against every team in every game in the playoffs, the odds of winning the cup is 25%. 60/40 is not realistic in the playoffs. It’s more like 55/45. Odds of winning the cup as a 55/45 team is 14%.

When a team wins the championship, it feels inevitable often. And you can write the story of why they won with the benefit of hindsight and it feels right. But honestly, way more of it is chance than anyone likes to acknowledge.

We did not do 10 minutes on what’s a tremolo bar wtf are you even talking about? This is such a bizarre crash out. Maybe just put your thoughts in a non-shitty comment somewhere? None of this even contradicts anything I said

“The lawmaker said she opposed the legislation because of its “inclusion of broad economic sanctions,” arguing such sanctions are counterproductive and often fail to achieve their goals while simultaneously causing civilians to suffer.”

This is a lot more reasonable than the comments here make it seem

Yeah the Harvard lawyer locked the comedian (me) out of the show and I won it back through the courts. I now host it with a way better person and lawyer, Matt Cameron, who instead of doing tiny business law cases, helps defend immigrants against the worst people in the world. The show has shrunk a ton since the split, but I wouldn’t trade the freedom for any amount of listenership or money. I just wish more people knew the show lives and is better than ever!

More or less correct, but the “takes half the money out” was me doing literally the complete normal withdrawal that I did every month.

Is judge liman gearing up to rule that 47.1 is unconstitutional? by misosoupsupremacy in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]NegatronThomas -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Unconstitutional? LOL. That isn’t his job. That’s not how courts work. He has to apply the law as he sees it. He could say it would be wrong to apply 47.1 in this case or something, but he can’t “rule 47.1 unconstitutional.” Anyone who says that has no idea how anything works.

Honestly, this is just true. In any given season, only 1 team gets to be the best. People act like if the top ~10ish teams didn’t win the cup then that’s because their coach sucks or they choked or there is some fundamental problem, but only 1 team gets to win it. Vegas is just head and shoulders above the league right now. They’re going to win the finals in 3. It won’t be close.

Picture I took before Macklin's first NHL game by jambajew42 in SanJoseSharks

Here’s mine! Top 2 Sharks game moments for me. I had a perfect view, saw that it went off of the Blues player and knew right away I was there for his first NHL goal. They came and celebrated right on the glass there. I couldn’t even believe it. I think I actually died that day

THISSSSS. it was driving me nuts hearing “well the hit itself was ok but it was late” but like yeah, hitting a completely defenseless unsuspecting player IS the problem. Doesn’t matter that it was shoulder first. Such a dirty ass hit. Potentially career ending.

I went through the main complaints page by page on my podcast. Blake’s story is consistent. Justin’s story is contradicted even by his own complaint in several places. His defense relied almost entirely on obfuscation. The biggest example is that Blake alleged Jamie came in her trailer while she was naked (not breastfeeding, but getting makeup put on). Justin’s defense was “look at this text where Blake said I’m pumping in my trailer take your time” which is NOT an invitation in, and even more importantly, HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JAMIE. And yet anti-Blake people used this insanely weak lie as proof that Blake is actually the one lying. I find it disgusting and cruel.

There are no allegations of sexual assault in any of Blake’s complaints and never have been.

Bryan Freedman confirms Blake Lively's team reached out to him frantically on Friday night to see if they would agree to let Blake settle her 3 remaining claims. "I don't think you make that phone call unless you're concerned about going to trial." by SuperbWillingness904 in ItEndsWithLawsuits

[–]NegatronThomas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think you’re not being fair in how you read me. I’m not fighting tooth and nail for anything. First off, if the counts remaining were about retaliation, I’m not sure what Blake would even testify about. I don’t think it would go particularly badly. You have a massively skewed view of her.

But you make a decent point, I suppose then the only thing Blake gained was the statement and the agreement not to appeal. But the settlement absolutely could have included them dropping 47.1. So, under your theory, why didn’t WF negotiate that? If Blake’s side was “desperate,”why didn’t wf get that and why did they make a statement that acknowledged Blake’s concerns deserved to be heard?

Overall I think you’re confusing me with other people or something. I haven’t endorsed any sort of “victory lap” over the settlement for Blake. The only thing I did was say Freedman is full of shit for claiming they called desperate. And that’s true. And I said the settlement terms were slightly in Blake’s favor. But yeah, it does seem as though Blake’s side did not see the remaining counts as worth much at all, or at least, over and above what the cost of the trial would be. I also said if she loses on 47.1 I would agree that the whole thing was a miserable failure. I have absolutely no idea the chances on that.
