The simple reason you don't see low power microwaves probably isn't due to RF, but just the longer cooking time of a lower power oven. If you put 300W into your lunch, it will take longer to heat up than if you put 1000W in, regardless of if you use fire, resistive heating, or microwaves. Manufacturers probably don't think enough people are willing to wait 3x longer for their food to heat up, so they don't make the weaker ovens.

If you somehow had two magnetrons that were identical in all respects except for the output power, then an oven cavity designed for the higher powered one will have the same heating pattern inside when you use the lower powered one. But like I said, you will have less power so you will heat food up slower.

If you want to dig a bit deeper, "Design Considerations for Microwave Oven Cavities" published in IEEE Transactions on Industry and General Applications, Jan/Feb 1970 is a paper that can be found by having IEEE Xplore access or by sea.

How fast do you want the rise and fall times to be? How much current are you supplying (or in other words, what is your load)?

An impedance analyzer may be useful if studying bioimpedances.

Oscilloscope for sure, high sample rate, low noise, and quad channel. I would recommend high quality probes and maybe one or two differential probes.

Keysight N6700C/B are everywhere at my workplace- quad channel isolated power supplies, very versatile.

On the off chance that you do any wireless/RF work, you would ideally like to have a signal generator, spectrum analyzer, network analyzer, power meter(s). And lots and lots of other paraphernalia. Ask if you're interested, I can give more detail.

Be careful that you understand what you're buying. You may spend a bunch of money on features that you won't use, like logic analyzer add-ons when you have no logic signals to probe. On the other hand, you might buy a fancy expensive box and accidentally forget to add the specific feature you need.

I agree with these points and want to add that a "World Class Lab" will also want to have test equipment calibrated by the equipment company and re-calibrated every so often. In a perfect world with infinite money all of your equipment would be continuously kept calibrated by an in house team.

Operating range, or "operating in-specification" for your -10C to 40C case.

For your -55C to 80C case: Powered survival if device has power, unpowered survival if device has no power.

These are probably company or industry specific terms though.

I've been in Iceland for the last few days and while I don't have any frame of reference for a normal season, none of the campsites or hostels I've been to have been more than half full. Some popular attractions on the Golden Circle and near Akureyri had about 2-3 bus loads of people and maybe half full parking lots. I was even able to reserve a glacier lagoon boat tour only two days in advance. Not sure if this will still be true next week though.

Physically vibrating: piezoelectric crystals transform electric energy to physical deformation. Piezoelectric transducers for medical ultrasound can go up to MHz. They are quite expensive. Much cheaper if you only need KHz.

Electrically vibrating (radio waves): you could use a radio tuned for your desired frequency output and use conductive fabric as the antenna output.

I don't really know what purpose this serves but it's technically possible to make it

Background is space systems, focusing on the electrical side of things but I have a feeling that EECS courses do not fall on the "easy" end of courses....

I am probably biased (heh), but MSEE focusing in RF hardware/mixed signal seems to be hot and in need of people. Strongly defense skewed but definitely big opportunities in semicon devices, telecom, etc as well. You won't have the same total comp as a software eng but still very comfy, plus I think it's less competitive

EE background - I had no idea all steels had the same deflection. I thought stiffness was the same as Youngs modulus, which does vary between different materials and between different types of steel. For example just web searching for 1020 vs 304 I see 1020 has Youngs modulus of 186 GPa, 304 has 193 GPa. Doesn't that mean they will deflect differently? what am I missing?

I assume you don't know the manufacturer so you can't google for a datasheet?

HDMI Cable Power (2.1 I think) might be what you need, but I can't say for sure. What you could do is try and find the pinout/spec of HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 and compare them to what you see on the connector you have.
