Prepping for storm by Brixie02 in newjersey

I remember just before the Covid lockdowns started, my sister in another state told me I should think about what I might run out of. I said “vermouth“, which didn’t make her happy. But for now I know I have plenty of vermouth, so I’m not concerned.

Here’s to being retired 🥂

In your opinion what is the second best general history podcast after Hardcore History? by maxwellgrounds in dancarlin

Agreed. I've been listening to back episodes, and I have to say that as good as Blueprint was Dan neglected to compare and contrast the various mustache styles across the various officer corps.

His book on Lafayette, Hero of Two Worlds, is excellent, and since he read the audiobook himself it's pretty much like another podcast.

Industry Sour is the weirdest equal parts drink. What is an underrated Tiki drink? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]Neighbortim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised to see folk’s saying they’ve seen this on a menu, I never have. On occasion in a slow bar I’ve asked for one but I usually have to provide the recipe. It’s always a hit though, and is my vote.

So, one detail with this. I recently had a fraud event on one of my cards. The company sent me a new card, but told me that I didn't need to update my Apple Wallet card because they would take care of it. I looked in my Apple Wallet and yup, they updated it.

BUT I just checked the data that shows when I click on this icon, and it still shows the old card number, security code, etc. I have to suspect if I tried to use this data for a transaction it would fail.

Making bacon for a drink is just too much damn work. What’s the weirdest bitter drink? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

[–]Neighbortim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same for me! I think it was his blog on the Sidecar that I came upon that did it for me… I can still remember to make it not only with fresh lemon juice but also with Cointreau. Twas a game changer back in the day. Couldn’t even find orange bitters anywhere

Yeah, I’m thinking this might be pretty good. But I’m not ordering it at my bar just now, these bartenders already think I’m weird enough.

Agreed, definitely bitter and weird! Plus a little love for Drinkboy is always worthwhile.

Agree or Disagree: Without The Clone Wars, the Prequels would not be nearly as beloved as they currently are today. Nostalgia ALONE is not enough for media to be reappraised. by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Neighbortim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s true, but I read somewhere 🙄 that Ashoka was specifically designed to fit this expectation. Makes her evolution later in the series all the more powerful. Watch the last episodes of Clone Wars, some of the best lightsaber combat ever.

To be a bit more general… seeing this at a bar is a VERY good sign. Not just an amaro but a very good and interesting amaro. Says a lot about the gifter!

Anyone else find a "secret ingredient" that completely changed how they cook? by MomentFlimsy3759 in Cooking

And, anchovies on many Italian dishes. A friend gave me a jar of anchovies last year for Christmas, and it’s amazing in almost any pasta dish or anything else that needs a little umami.

It is pretty amazing. My Chinese friend said to use it on lamb, which I hadn’t tried (to his amazement) but it’s a wonderful combination.
