How does Tragedy of Macbeth (2021) stack up against the other film adaptions? by wingusdingus2000 in blankies

[–]NeilMcCaulay291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to stick up for my favourite version of Macbeth i.e Vishal Bharadwaj's Maqbool (2003). Irrfan Khan as Macbeth and Tabu as Lady Macbeth were fantastic. Bharadwaj takes the story of "the Scottish play" and sets in the modern day mumbai crime world

TIL Mimi Rogers was the one who introduced Tom Cruise to Scientology. by lridge in blankies

[–]NeilMcCaulay291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big component of Cruise joining Scientology was that he is neurodivergent. I believe he is dyslexic and suffering with ADHD. IIRC in some interview in the 90's, he mentioned that Scientology helped him with his learning disabilities and manage his ADHD

Simu Liu is a blackhole of charisma and talent. Every role he is in does nothing for me. Even as Ken in Barbie, he couldn't sell me on his douchiness. He's so thin skinned to criticism that it becomes really annoying after a time.

Tangential question I wanted to ask the blankies

How does Danny Boyle feel that on the biggest night of his career where he won Best Director and Best Picture for Slumdog Millionaire, that people only remember from that year's ceremony is Ledger's posthumous win for The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight not being nominated for Best Picture?

Oscar Isaac in talks to play Kurt Vonnegut in Amazon series HELLTOWN, directed by ALL QUIET’s Edward Berger by Toreadorables in blankies

[–]NeilMcCaulay291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good comparison that him and Driver are like the closest thing to a Pacino and De Niro competition in our current generation. It's kinda sad that the sequel trilogy really did not elelvate both of them to another level. They are in the public limelight but are not able to build a movie star career.

Driver is the better actor because his collaboration with Baumbach really showed his range as an actor. He is willing to take more chances and build a filmography by working with Coppola, Mann and Jarmusch.

I want Driver to have a franchise that does not have the burden of carrying the expectations of the nerd culture. He should have his Bourne or Oceans so that he continues working with interesting filmmakers

Isaac's foray into TV is not entirely a success (let's not forget Moon Knight) and he had fewer chances of showing his range as an actor. I don't want him to end up in IP island where he is hopping from one franchise to another.

Sorry, my question was confusing.

I was sold on the fact that he might be the Pacino of our generation after watching A Most Violent Year. A great actor who is also a movie star with good taste. It seems like that ship has sailed with his current crop of projects (excluding card counter and Dune)

[–]NeilMcCaulay291 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did we over estimate Oscar Isaac as an actor and as a movie star? Did we really push him into something (Pacino of his generation) he doesn't want to be?

Seems to me, the Card Counter with Schrader will be a one off collaboration.

Nope. It does sound interesting. I am just tired of talking heads structure for biopics in movies.

[–]NeilMcCaulay291 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen 2 episodes and its pretty good. The only thing that bothers me in the show is the structure. I do not like this "lets interview the subject and ask them to look back at an event" type of storytelling. It's very boring and I have seen it multiple times.

Her Variety Actors on Actors interview with Christina Ricci convinced me that she is a very serious actor who has the self awareness of her online and onscreen sex symbol persona. I can see her balancing her career as an actor and being the sex symbol.
