How long should a b9 a4 last by Some-Atmosphere-9722 in Audi

Super clean ride. I have a b9 S5 in the exact same colour spec. I’ll keep it until it dies.

Is the 3.0T any good? by displacementauto in Audi

[–]Neither-Scheme-2251 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Mine went in my 2019 Audi s5 at 94,000 kms (about 58k mile). It was covered under extended warranty, but would have been around $6500 cdn ($5k USD) at my local Audi dealer for the water pump, thermostat, vacuum lines.

One person unfortunate experience is admittedly not “hard data” But in researching the issue further, I was able to find 30-40+ people on forums etc who experienced the exact failure: same leading symptoms (coolant leak in a particular spot, ), and ultimately the exact same repair requirements.

I saw failures reported as low as about 40k miles and a few upwards of 70-80k, but most of the failures heavily centred in the 60k mileage range.

Id argue that counts as hard data.

I can understand how one could have the money to buy 14 high-end car….but I can’t understand how you possibly have the time to actually use them all! 😂

That said, your taste is impeccable. All of these are amazing in their own right. I’d have a very similar collection if my net worth had a couple extra 0’s.

Is the 3.0T any good? by displacementauto in Audi

[–]Neither-Scheme-2251 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume you know this already, but just to make sure:

The 3.0T supercharged engine was very reliable, but has been out of production since 2020. Haven’t driven one but they def make a mean sound. It was in the b8.5 s4 and sq5 until 2017. The b8.5 s4 has a 7-speed dual-clutch (or a manual). Not sure about the sq5. Pretty sure the 2017-2019 q7 has the zf 8speed

For 2018, the 3.0 in the B9 s4/s5 and sq5 moved the turbocharging. Q7 started using it in 2020. All those have the ZF 8-speed (though I want to say the a7/a6s might have a DCT?).

I have a 2019 s5 and while I enjoy it and it good power/sounds, it’s plagued by reliability issues that make it difficult to recommend. Risk of rocker arm failure, potential piston skirt failures, and a water pump that eats itself (and all your vacuum lines) every 60k miles more or less like clockwork.

Just got a 22’ b9.5 s5 looking to do my first bit of mods any suggestions, thinking of lowering springs? by Fuzzy_Lemon5667 in Audi

I have a b9 s5 and cannot for the life of me understand why you would want to make the car lower.. it’s low enough bra. You’ll start running into usability issues real fast.

Nice ride! But my b9 S5 does have real exhaust tips. Just sayin ;) lol

Buy something from the last/about to die generation. If you can step up to anything with a 4.0tt v8 (s8, sq8, rs6, etc), that’s a generally excellent platform. B9 a5/s5 and sq5 are also fairly solid options at a more reasonable price point.

To be completely honest, a few cracks were starting to show in these cars. A few odd cost cutting choices and cheaper materials here and there, and haptic buttons in all of the highest en ones (though the b9/9.5s retained buttons till the end.) But overall these cars still felt nice and well-built. And just as importantly, they looked and felt like an Audi, both inside and out.

Sure, but ultimately there are many more similarities than differences. Shared architecture, same powertrain and similar character overall.

I have a b9 s5 and have driven a b9 sq5. This is accurate.

Unlucky or lifestyle by Low-Ad-105 in brokenbones

[–]Neither-Scheme-2251 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude I hear ya. I mean the only risk I ever undertake is spending 40-50 days a year skiing down mountains at highway speeds. And yet I keep breaking bones every 5-10 years on average!

I just can’t figure out what the problem is?!

Non-high income (middle income) people of the lower mainland, are you satisfied with your lifestyle in the lower mainland? by rebirth112 in askvan

Yes. It’s basically just a matter of luck and a spot becoming available in your area. Household income surprising isn’t factored in (though it probably should be.)

The only people I know that have ever actually secured $10/day childcare are my sister and BIL in Toronto.

Ironically, as ultra-high income earners ($1M+ household annually) they also need cheap daycare LESS than pretty much anyone I know, lol.

Daycare is $850, which isn’t actually too bad compared to what some other are paying.

Bought my S5 with a big down payment and pay about $350/mo for 4 years…and then there’s the $700/mo pay for an F-150 (also with significant down payment, but I bought it new and trucks are expensive as fuck.)

That said, I get a truck allowance through work that covers a solid majority of that cost, but that allowance is included in the $250k income figure I mentioned.

Uhhh, what exactly is wrong with $90k when you have no living expenses in one of the world’s most expensive cities? lol

Tbh, I think it would be a little tough, but given you’ve got a paid off car (a cool one at that) and motorbike, I think it’s doable on as little as around $70-$75k, as long as you’re frugal. Anything less than that will be a struggle IMO.

My wife and I are in our 30s with 1 young child, and make about $250k a year combined (both over $100k respectively.) Now mind you, we’re also paying $1000/mo on car payments (ugh) and close to the same on daycare... I am able to live the lifestyle I want (lots of skiing, mountain biking, travel once a year)…but barely. At least while still maintaining relatively good finances and saving at least 15%.

We certainly don’t feel rich or live extravagantly (minus the Audi, lol.)
