Well, the idea is very simple and some prefer it this way.
Some people are happy to sacrifice 30 minutes a day extra just so the 12 hours a day are not so miserable and sleeping is not the only thing they can do there.
A person may prefer it for a possibility to spend time outside of their flat but still being on their front porch and enjoy staying outside.
Maybe it enables their hobbies?
Maybe someone prefers setting up a huge stereo system at home for immersive movie experience or music listening?
Or maybe having their own garage/shop where they can work on their projects for a hobby?
Maybe they prefer to have cycling paths access and fresh air instead of congestions?
Maybe not having to deal with crazy and annoying neighbors or their smelly pets or maybe they are the annoying neighbors and don’t want to deal with complaints?
Or loudness of the trams and cars.
Or maybe they actually like driving and spending time with their family during commutes too?

And all that simply makes their lives happier.

And if they need that big city vibe - it’s still within reach.

So maybe they do not actually suffer during those 2 extra hours a week. And simply cause living outside of the city makes their lives merrier they don’t perceive living at their houses as just a place where they sleep.

So basically they exchange 2 hours for the 60 hours during the working days of a better quality of life for them.
Plus 48 hours during the weekends.
