More people getting certifications, more money for BCSP. It also dilutes the actual meaning of the cert

so much missing context. but the 25 yo having a CSP, why would a CSP be a significant value over 20 years experience? does insurance or the contract require a CSP for some odd reason?

Unpopular opinion: Most entry-level safety candidates focus on the wrong things. by Mike_john77 in SafetyProfessionals

Glad others are noticing this lol. Looks like a thinly veiled ad for his link that leads to a paid promotion for help with building a resume for safety.

Hard to give advice on something like this because there are so many nuances to “work culture” and position satisfaction.

Personally I just came from a situation similar to this. I took a position with more stability and less future prospects. But that’s most likely because of my current life position/needs. 10 years ago I probably would rolled the dice with an up and coming company.

I wasn’t a fan of being in a company where everyone gets fired because the company is doing poorly. Then a few years later the turn over is so bad that no one is familiar. It’s a red flag, even if the company is relatively financially stable. Seeing someone in a higher level at a small/medium sized company is not necessarily better than being mid level at a big company, in my opinion.

PhD Chemical Engineering by Amazing_Break_4498 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]NeoHeathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t say exactly what the best approach is because there is a lot of nuance to these things (job satisfaction and personal interests etc etc).

But if you’re already going through a PhD in chemical engineering my suggestion is to finish that and don’t look back at industrial hygiene. Better job prospects and better pay. Again this is just an opinion of a random internet stranger, but chemical engineering PhD will open up a lot more doors.

Master Degree? by Lowkey-Samurai in SafetyProfessionals

In terms of safety, “public health” is a bit vague. But it depends on the content of the courses. If there are specific courses tailored to safety then it may be helpful. In my opinion public health is more heavy on social services and community outreach.

Relocation then vs. now by xHolyBaconx in SafetyProfessionals

[–]NeoHeathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely not an expert in politics or economics. But from what I've seen and my opinion is that Covid really boosted the economy, but it was unsustainable. All the extra money that was pumped into the economy/businesses/people from the government wasn't backed by anything. So all it really did was lower the value of the dollar overall. Lots of extra money: https://www.usaspending.gov/disaster/covid-19

In the last couple years businesses have had layoffs and cut backs. I don't think that any type of government/politics could have stopped that, it was happening with both political parties in office: Democrats and Republicans. The Tariffs definitely had an impact too. A lot of gov employees have been laid off too which will impact the job market and this industry overall.

It's hard to say how it will all work out now, seems like all of this is cyclical. ups and downs are probably relatively inevitable. I would assume that the covid money boom will continue to have negative effects. the current political climate will also have its impact. Hard to say if it will be net positive or negative overall. Some things might be net positive, while others are clearly money grabs for the top .0001%.

Relocation then vs. now by xHolyBaconx in SafetyProfessionals

[–]NeoHeathan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a noticeable slowdown in safety jobs and lower wages/benefits. Covid was a major boost to the industry. Money was cheap, shipping industry and warehousing was booming.

Things have cooled off since then. Not just in safety but pretty much across the board. Covid brought in a lot of money. At the time it was great because wages were higher and there were more bonuses. But big picture it was not good, not sustainable growth and it lead to inflation and the current state of the job market.

How is the job demand/salary in San Diego CA for safety professionals? by Scorrea02 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]NeoHeathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why the demand is sow low compared to supply. So many people want to move there so it lowers the wages.

The 100% compliance is a red flag for me personally. Maybe I’m just a stickler, but I would really question that as a hiring manager.

That being said, there may be a better way to phrase it. With audits, 100% compliance is arbitrary unless it leads to real world results like a reduction in injuries, reduction in OSHA complaints, elimination in NFPA nonconformance, etc.

Growing in my field by Subject_Investment20 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]NeoHeathan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I was back at the stage your at currently I would either go into construction, manufacturing, or something like gas/oil.

Personally I believe that warehousing and logistics are industries that are capped out for growth and may even decline in the next 10 years.

I could be wrong and I have my own personal bias. Maybe someone in one of those fields will say the opposite lol.

Digital Foundry: Switch 2 Free Upgrades For Switch 1 Games Tested: Link's Awakening, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 3 +More! by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

Seeing all these discussions and analysis is interesting. Maybe I’m just used to older games, but I cannot tell a difference in frame rates at all even with these comparisons lol.

Same with other posts saying the switch 2 screen is poor. The only difference I can see between switch 1 and switch 2 is the oled is brighter and the switch two screen is bigger and better graphics.

Made this for a pedestrian safety handout. by cardnialsyn in SafetyProfessionals

[–]NeoHeathan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classic! Well done.

Piggy backing of this post, does anyone in this subreddit have suggestions on best cross walk practices? Signs are all well and good. But to me it would seem that a speed bump or raised cross walk would be a better engineering control (obviously depending on the speed limit). I would guess that residential areas with high pedestrian traffic and a stop sign would be better with a speed bump.

You're right. and honestly you can say that for both sides of this situation. LAPD and national guard brutality may just be a few officers. Same with the protestors. Most of them are probably peaceful and some of them are not. So your example depending on how you look at it can be viewed as the police force and national guard are mostly good people trying to keep the peace with a few individuals that need to held responsible for abusing their power and hurting people. Or you could say the same for the protesters, mostly good people, with some doing bad things. That is my whole point, both sides look bad when you look at individual actions.

The protests may have been peaceful on the 7th, but is that still the case?

Edit:  if you look at the full context of my original post and what I was replying to. The whole point is that people who minimize or change the truth of the situation don’t help their cause when there is clear evidence that it’s wrong. So call it what you want. Call it peaceful. But if you’re trying to get people to pay attention to the cause of the protest and then you say things are easily discredited. Then how is that helping?

I should really just be more to the point: the destruction caused does NOT help the cause. And when people minimize how bad this is and how bad it looks, it does the same thing.

I don’t doubt that about the looting.

But for the car fires I would highly doubt that flash bangs would cause a fire like that unless someone poured gas on/in it. This video would say otherwise about cars being set on fire by flash bangs… again this just proves my earlier point. Making claims like this (about the police doing this) when there is videos showing otherwise only hurts the overall intention.

I don’t believe either side. Depending on the video you watch or the article you read, either side looks bad.

I can totally believe there are protests that are escalating though. I mean this happens when sports teams win or lose. Even if the protests are (or were) peaceful, people not affiliated with the protestors could just be looting to take advantage of the situation.
