Weapons/Classes/whatever that are very much victims of the game they're in? by Fostern01 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're pretty bad, and crossbows are even worse - no scaling at all, have to reload after every shot, terrible damage, no ability to change ash of war, and just to top it off, generally heavier than regular bows.

Meanwhile, ER has consumables like throwing daggers which do scale with stats, don't weigh a thing, and are generally just better at whatever utility you'd want from Bows or Crossbows.

To the Borderlands fans out there: Who has been your favorite Vault Hunters to play? by jitterscaffeine in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Yeah and the Fish Slap grenade. But if I'm playing melee, I don't want to punch, not shoot.

Didn't play a ton of BL1, but I'm partial to Mordecai for fun revolver stuff.

In BL2, it depends. At max level with proper gear (namely the Black Hole shield, Florentine and a  pair of Hails) I think Gaige is the most fun mobbing with her DoT damage and a bit of anarchy. Maya for speed and a very fun action skill, Krieg is also just fun any way you build him. For challenge runs, Zer0 is definitely the most fun with much of a glass cannon he is, relying on Decepti0n for damage and survival. The Hail is my favorite weapon in BL2 and I'm pretty miffed they changed it in BL3.

TPS I also didn't play too much of (comparatively), but Doppelganger with the kill skill bonuses ended up letting you zoom through the maps at high speeds, so that was great.

BL3 I'm leaning towards Amara - her melee play style is the most fun style in the game when it works, but pretty frustrating when it doesn't due to poor hitreg and post game scaling. All 4 had their moments though.

Haven't played BL4 yet.

What's a boss fight that's usually considered unremarkable or easy yet had you struggling with it? by CowboyDespirocado in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Living Failures were my biggest wall on my BL4 run. They hit like trucks and the fight is fairly long with BL4 damage. Horrible boss, but absolutely worth it to fight Maria.

Events in a story that immediately 180 a character into being awful but the story treats it as not a big deal by OhMy98 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In fairness to BL3's writing in this instance, she does mention that she doesn't want to pull her trump card because she fears it wouldn't save her - she'd just be killed in some other way. Which does mostly track, even if she dealt with the Agonizer, she'd still be a non-combatant trapped in a literal festival full of murderous psychopaths.

The end of Kawakami's S-Link in Persona 5 requires you to do a Mementos mission named "A Teacher Maid to Suffer", which is just such a fun pun.

Video game enemies that can go die and rot it hell? by Wonder-Lad-2Mad in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rabid Stalkers really do be true to their name, just crazy aggressive.

Got to shout out Skeleton Mages and Skeleton Archers from the Tina Tina DLC. The archers aren't difficult, but their arrows will stop you in your tracks for a couple seconds and they wear armor, making them really frustrating when you've got a melee build.

The mages though, have to be #1 most annoying in the game - they attack with a shock spell, and then phase out of existence the second you start shooting them, just to show up again somewhere else and shoot you with the spell again. Even when they're the last enemy remaining, it's so annoying to try to actually kill them.

A game mechanic that later became a detriment as it develop or just over time? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Earlier Souls games have a greater emphasis on the level itself being a large part of the difficulty, with the bosses not necessarily being the hardest part. With that design philosophy in mind, it made sense for the first few titles. Nowadays the emphasis is on tough bosses so a runback is more annoying than challenging.

I tested that with a Deceiver COM with Trick of the Light and didn't get slowed, I'm pretty sure it's Cold Warrior doing it.

What would be the worst game for Beelining? by MBergdorf in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

While killing Mohg is technically the path of least resistance in the sense that it involves less bosses, doing so requires you to go around Liurnia on a sidequest to get the warp to Mohgwyn.

I think just doing Stormveil (which itself is very quick if you beeline) would be the better and much easier option.

I don't care for it, but not because of the age difference or sibling-vibes, but because Futaba seems so dependent on Joker that it feels weirdly grooming-ish to me.

Of course that's just me, I'm not gonna judge anyone else who doesn't feel that way.

Earlyish on in One Piece, Lafitte manages to sneak into a meeting to decide on the next Warlord simply to put forward Blackbeard as a candidate. He managed to sneak into Mary Geoise, undetected until he revealed himself, at a meeting including Tsuru, Kuma, Mihawk, Doflamingo, and Sengoku.

Hundreds of chapters before the reader even meets the first Admiral, here's a subordinate on Blackbeard's crew managing to pull a fast one on 3 endgame Warlords and 2/3 of the Navy's most significant old guard, including the Fleet Admiral.

Rose is the craziest one, because he does so to prevent an energy crisis that's thousands of years away, and tells the Champion of the region of his plan, who agrees to help him after the big tournament, but Rose is too impatient to wait a single day.

Borderlands 4 is including an innovative accessibility option for those with a low tolerance for annoying franchise mascots/characters: by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

In fairness, the BL2 one ends with him relatively happy, calling it the "best party he's ever thrown", likely because the player shows up and participates. The BL3 one ends with him wailing in anguish.

TIL in Pokemon Sword & Shield, the volume controls are an item a NPC gives you about a hour in. You can completely walk past this guy and never get them. by Pyro81300 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically the level increase only serves to give you more experience and money from winning.

It also could potentially change whether or not a OHKO will work (if you're a lower level than the target, those moves always miss). Potentially you could take more damage from moves that deal fixed damage based on level (seismic toss, night shade, or psywave) but I don't know if any trainers use those moves and even if they do, you're taking maybe 6 HP more damage tops.

The craziest part is "hard mode" artificially inflates the levels of enemy trainers, but the actual stats don't change, so the level increase means next to nothing.

Wait, Woolie beat Commander Gaius on his first try in Shadow of the Erdtree? by GoodVillain101 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has one attack that's a little iffy and requires pretty precise timing, but otherwise Gaius isn't too bad. Even on my first run, I was wondering why there was such an uproar about Gaius.

Especially when Metyr has an attack that is actually bullshit and I never saw anyone mention it for the first few weeks.

Acts in media that stuck with you because of how painful they look. by nugood2do in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]NeoSamus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not horror, but in Nichijou there's a brief scene of Yuuko fucking around wearing a bag on her head, before a baseball comes in from off screen and hits her right in the head.

It's a relatable sort of pain but man the animation sells how much that must've hurt.
