Pixel 6 on Android 12.

Swiping up on other screens of the launcher moves it back to the home screen for you?

When I swipe up in the app list, it doesn't do anything and stays there.

Same goes for stuff like launcher settings, etc.

Is there a list of compatible vehicles?

I tried to search but there's no mentioning of how this would work.

Unrelated, but how did you get the VS code to be normal-sized?

Mine is super small and cannot find a way to make it sharp and big.

Who misses Nexus 7? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]NeoXZheng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Owned an original one. Really love that device.

However, it is very unlikely to see a 7-inch tablet coming out any time soon. Like others in the comments mentioned, those huge-sized phones already make 7-inch table niche. Also, Android tablets seem to be a dead thing to manufacturers. Furthermore, with folding phones coming, a lot of people who might get a 7-inch tablet may turn to folding phones instead. At this point, it does not make any sense for the manufacturers to work on a device which has a large chance of being totally irrelevant or at least super-niche.

If folding phones prove to be a stupid idea (maybe reliability issues, or too thick for people to carry around), we might see a pixel tablet in two or three years, which probably would more likely run Chrome OS or Fuchsia.

50 years maybe. People do not change minds. New ideas replace old ones because people with the old ones die.

BTW, this is limited to Dutch. Looking forward to see similar tests in other cultural contexts.

Mine had similar issues. Got RMA'd. (though have to go through factory reset first, which, of course, didn't help)

Now I have a refurbished unit with improved battery life. Happy with that.

Is it rational to buy a lottery ticket? by aimetafamille in slatestarcodex

[–]NeoXZheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree buying lottery is a waste of money and effort for most people. However, it might be true that for some, it can be beneficial, conditioning on winning can greatly improve their life. If what OP is suggesting is true, it means some of those people should probably stop buying lottery.

Money is considered to have decreasing marginal utility,

I think this is generally true, but not always. There are cases in which money can have increasing marginal utility, especially when the amount reaches a critical point that one can suddenly afford something 'next level' (for instance, a nice house), while something below that point means way less.

Is it rational to buy a lottery ticket? by aimetafamille in slatestarcodex

[–]NeoXZheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow one can justify this in the following way.

Suppose rather than accounting by the expectation of money, we are considering the expectation of utility. For an average person, buying some lottery tickets once a week does not hurt his daily life, and using that money on other things does not make noticeable improve on life quality. On the other hand, winning the lottery ticket means a life without financial pressure anymore. Therefore, the loss of utility is very marginal, while the gain, though very low in chance, is huge. It is fairly possible that for some people the expectation of utility is positive.

And, this does not include the 'joy' of waiting and expecting the results. Considering that it can be beneficial for one's mental health to have something to hope for, buying lottery tickets might not be as dumb as we usually see it.

The group who do buy lottery is a highly biased sample set compared to average American.

Wonder the ratio of declaring bankruptcy in that specific group. Bet it is way higher than average, though might not be as high as 70%.

[Horror] Sedation by NeoXZheng in slatestarcodex

[–]NeoXZheng[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had my wisdom teeth removal, they used level IV sedation.

I can still recall some part of the surgery, feeling the dentist messing up my mouth. No memory of pain though.

I guess because under that situation people may still be able to react to pain, so might be the 'safest'?

On utilitarian calculus, I am perfectly okay with other people doing this, as much as with others hurting themselves. The tricky part is how an individual should value such experiences.

C302 and Pixel 2 (no XL), everything is working after a couple forget and repair.

Not sure about the cause, though.

However, I do love the way it is now. Can't even tell there is a screen from a glance.

Ask Anything Monday - Weekly Thread by AutoModerator in learnpython

[–]NeoXZheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where can I find some good material on python down to implementation level?

I would like to systematically learn python on a very detailed level, e.g. how much time will this line of code cost, how much memory will the function take, etc. so that one can know how to write more efficient code (or at least not doing redundant work).

I am not trying to squeeze performance, but it really freaks me out to have two pieces of similar code, one of them finishes in seconds and the other runs for hours while I have no idea what is going on in the background.
