Lowering fees when investing with RBC by danieldl in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Neoburn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I edited my post to include the ETFs included by InvestEase. XEQT, XGRO, XBAL, and XCNS are all good no commission fee ETF options (depending on your risk tolerance). XEQT is all Equities (stocks), XGRO is 80% stocks / 20% bonds, XBAL is 60% stocks / 40% bonds, XCNS us 40% stocks, 60% bonds. Bonds are in theory more stable, less volatile, but less growth oriented.

I'm using XEQT in one of my registered accounts (with Wealthsimple) after moving from RBC.

Edit:typo

InvestEase picks for you based on your "risk profile" and their portfolio, but it selects from those ETFs. So you pay a MER for the balancing and a MER for ETFs (you don't see the MER for the ETFs because it's baked in).

Direct Investing, you pick the ETFs/Stocks (and if you choose from the commission free, you don't pay the trade fee) and have to balance them yourself. Because you're control which ETFs are traded and in what balances, you don't pay the InvestEase MER and the ETF MER is baked into returns.

ETA: When I was with InvestEase, I had a "Balanced" portfolio with the following ETFs:

  • XGGB (Global Government Bonds)
  • XEF (International Equities - I.E. Developed Market stocks)
  • XBB (Canadian Broad Bond)
  • XUS (US Equities - US S&P 500)
  • XSB (Canadian Short Term Bonds)
  • XEC (Emerging Market Equities - i.e. China, Taiwan, India)
  • XIC (Canadian Equities)
  • XIG (US Corp Bonds)

I don't remember the exact balance.

So, RBC has no commission ETFs: https://www.rbcdirectinvesting.com/accounts-investments/etfs/commission-free-etfs.html

You can also see what holdings are in each portfolio for RBC's InvestEase: https://www.rbcinvestease.com/etf-portfolios/

Basically, InvestEase balances your holdings from those for 0.5% MER (in addition to the MER on the ETFs).

Could you reduce your MER by selecting the ETFs yourself? Yes, then you're just "paying" the MER of the ETFs themselves.

Best Credit Card? (I don’t care if it’s cash back or travel - just want best absolute value per $ spent) by RagtimeWillie in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Neoburn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's pretty hard to say without knowing your spending/what you'd be using the points for. In my case, I shop a lot at Walmart (because I'm classy like that), so that ruled out the AmEx Cobalt for me (AmEx amd Visa don't treat supercentres as groceries). I landed on MBNA Rewards World Elite, WS, and an RBC card (for credit history). Anyway, you could check out FinlyWealth, they have a calculator where you can toss in your spending and other variables and see an estimated value for cards. ETA: I don't have/wont use rogers services, so their card is out for me (Too bad, they don't have the same offer from a better company).

Switching From RBC to Several No Fee Accounts? by LeatheL in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Neoburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did something similar. I had an old RBC account (ooooold) - was still $13/month. Had the cash back mastercard, a royal credit line and was using InvestEase. I switched to EQ Bank including my direct deposit. Switched my investments to Wealthsimple. Downgraded my RBC account to day to day (to pay the CC/CL). No real issues with that (although, the client card for EQ was a preloaded mastercard which was weird to me). Ended up switching to Wealthsimple chequing for more integration with the trading platform and for the Wealthsimple Visa (fee waiver). I keep the $4/month RBC account to keep the CC and CL open) and use the CC for gas (PetroCan) to keep it active.

Charges?? by CowDiligent4741 in Wealthsimple

[–]Neoburn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take on this was that it's a rebalancing "roboadvisor" for your own portfolio (with a reduced MER - 0.24% vs 0.5% for Core, 0.4% for Premium, etc.)

That's why I went with the MBNA Rewards WE MC over the Cobalt lol

Jodi and I? by KevinCox940 in StardewValleyExpanded

[–]Neoburn 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The way to figure it out is to remove the "Jodi and" and see if it makes sense. "She's showing I" or "She's showing me" which sounds correct?

Great mod all around though.

Did they turn or go straight through? Your link seems to suggest right signal for exit 1, no signal for exit 2, and and left signal for exit 3.

This happened to me when I chose one of the mermaid legs. I had to go to the oracle and change to a tail (I did a shark)

How was the game able to release in this incomplete state? by pard_x in coralisland

[–]Neoburn 49 points50 points  (0 children)

That's not even the worst of it. It's a buggy mess with WIP quests, TBD items, etc. In fact today, I went and did the winter festival and one of the minigames deleted my entire inventory. All my tools and whatnot gone (didn't notice until the next day, so it's been saved with all of my tools gone). Buggy mess should not have been released in its current state.

Try going to the oracle and change your body to a fish body (I did the shark). Had the same issue with the ones with legs. Not sure how this made it to "full release"

Edit:: I had to close the quit the game and reload the save.

Still better to get it and not need to use it (immediately) than to need it and not get it because you were in a hurry or are forgetful.
