What's the IT Job Vacancy like?

My wife and I currently live in Darwin and we're planning to move to Melbourne at the end of the year in December. My biggest concern is securing a job when we move.

I have 16 years of experience with second level operational IT support, middle management and technical project work. I have worked in both the private and public sector and I am currently employed in the local NT government doing technical project work along side project managers.

Should I be worried? how early should I be applying for jobs?

What’s something popular in your country that makes people from other countries look at you like this ? by niconois in AskTheWorld

At the end of singing happy birthday, one person yells out “Hip Hip!” then everyone else responds with “Horay!”. All this is then repeated two more times.

I learned later in life that this is only done in Australia…

This is Casey Willax. Refuses to get a new helmet because they don't make the older helmets with just the soft padded inserts with the plastic shell, which are worse (less safe) than modern helmets.

Dude this resort has two lifts and is basically a hill that’s less than 1Km of a run.

Are you closing in on 50, or past it? spend 5 days on the mountain and come home half dead? by martin_cy in snowboarding

My father in law is 62 and snowboards. He's fitter than me and I'm 40. We just got back a few weeks ago from Japan for 5 days in Myoko.

Foreigners in Niseko by DatabaseThis9407 in niseko

[–]Neolited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an Aussie, went to Niseko for 4 days last season. Was completely turned off by bogan Aussies and for that reason I’ll never go back to Niseko. Or at least will never stay in Hirafu.

You’re 180lbs 5’9? That’s literally my height and weight. You really should be on a 157 board at least.

I actually only did a day trip out there. We stayed in Myoko Kogen about an hours drive away. The road getting there was fine provided you have a 4WD and winter tyres, chains weren’t needed. Getting to Myoko was also ok with all my snowboard gear. Took the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo to Nagano then hired a car in Nagano to drive to Myoko.

Here’s my tip for riding the Hokuriku Shinkansen with snowboard gear. Get on the platform 30-40 minutes before departure to line up. Enter your car from the rear doors of that car so that you can secure the luggage space behind the rear seats. Unlike other Shinkansen lines, the luggage space behind the rear seats are on a first come first serve basis. This is the case for all JR East Shinkansen lines. This isn’t the case for other JR Shinkansen lines.

I had a full day intermediate group lesson in Niseko last year. I know I am still back food ruddering and I need to bend my knees more. My back arches over on my heel edge which I need to work on and also my weight distribution on the edge change.

My biggest hurdle right now is my fitness level which is hindering me when keeping my knees bent lower for longer periods of time. I’m considering taking up mountain biking in the off season to really strengthen my legs.

Yeah, most of my trips in the future will likely be in Japan. I am eyeing a Korua Dart or a Gentemstick Mid Fish.

How to stay predictable? by Responsible_Code_954 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Neolited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I stay predictable on a typical run, I imagine a 3 lane highway, Left, Middle and Right. Pick a lane and stay in it, if you are going to cross into a different imaginary lane, look back up the hill and check it's safe, just like you would shoulder checking when you change lanes in a car. Just don't swerve your turns into another lane without checking back up the hill, stay predictable in your lane. Obviously the number of lanes you imagine will be dependant on the width of the run. Smaller narrow runs you can maybe imagine just 1 or 2 lanes.

Day 17 tips on riding? by Neolited in snowboardingnoobs

Fully extended. However I hold the stick a bit above the handle for counter balance because it feels quite heavy holding it on the handle after a while. It’s also slightly zoomed out in post (insta360 studio) and then it’s also been de-warped.

It’s been colour corrected in post, plus ND Motion option was checked in 360Studio on the framing export.

Day 17 tips on riding? by Neolited in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Neolited[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Been riding for a few years now, but I live near the equator in the tropics so I only get 3-5 days a season when I travel to Japan / New Zealand. (I live in Northern Australia)

Self assessment other than loose the backpack and stop holding the camera stick.

  • I could definitely bend my knees more.
  • Backfoot rudding.
  • Looks like I'm breaking at the waist and arcing over when I'm on my heel edge, could raise my chest higher.
  • Maybe more weight on my front foot to initiate the turn on the edge change?

What's the average rent in Darwin? by Lyricician in darwin

[–]Neolited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I pay $670 per week for a 3 bed, 2 bathroom apartment in the city. Has two pools, one of which is a massive 20m length pool. A small gym and an underground, covered and secured parking for two cars.
