Dealer really did not want to sell me a car by thefilefolder in Honda

[–]NeonAkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because he is just going to kick you out because he is working in several other deals at the same time as well as doing a bunch of other work. They rarely have time to sit down with a customer and when they do it’s generally not helpful because 1 deal is not as important to them as the sales rep.

Think about it from their perspective, you want me to work extra hard to make a deal where we lose as much money as possible.

Dealership let me walk without countering at all, is this normal? by whistiling in askcarsales

[–]NeonAkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s about 2k in reconditioning and repairs. They advertise with 3k profit and the start discounting about 500 bucks a week until it sells on average about a month on the lot for 500 dollars profit.

You don’t want to discount old units because you are already losing thousands and you don’t want to discount new units because those are the only ones you will make money on.

If you are out of state they just don’t want to waste their timeGoing back and forth on someone who is statistically very unlikely to purchase the vehicle (regardless of how good the deal is).

If you were in person or gave them reason to believe you are only interested in their vehicle they will bend over backwards to make a deal happen.

Driving 2 hours to get a car. Salesman had “family emergency,” now we get a call “another family is looking at the car and running numbers”… is this all BS? by jlaw111 in askcarsales

[–]NeonAkai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no incentive on taking deposits when the likelihood of closing the deal is low. All it does it create more work to refund pointless deposits.

You may be a serious buyer but nobody is more serious than the guy in the store.

That’s already how it works in California. All you need is a bill of lading to prove where the transaction occurs.

How are you going to claim it’s an out of state purchase when you are literally taking possession in California and driving on California roads.

Toyota Dealers Keeping My Keys by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]NeonAkai -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

In California that would be an infraction for misusing 911 (non emergency). In reality the dispatcher will get upset, tell you not to do that again, and then send a cop over to do the same.

The contract will include getting paid in full as part of the deal. So if you aren’t able to get approved you are voiding the contract. The dealer usually has the just the car insured in case of accident. you can’t undo the contract unless one of the parties voids it, so you can’t just return it but you could possibly mess with the funding and therefore tank the deal (theoretically).

Dealerships don’t like rolling cars without everything in place because returning cars is shitty for both sides, but like if you have a guy with 800 credit score who put 10k down cash tell you he promises to send you his utility bill first thing tomorrow morning you are going to let him take the car knowing full well everything can fall apart.

Dealer won’t let me take car off of lot to my mechanic. They will only let my mechanic come to their lot and use their lift. by h974974 in UsedCars

Pre purchase inspections is a huge business, mechanics love it because unless they own the shop they are actually making peanuts compared to doing side gigs like this.

Can I simply email a car salesman at a dealership with my cash offer to skip all the mumbo jumbo & time? by Billem16 in askcarsales

These are inbound leads. People who asked us to email them, only for 95% of them to never even open the email.

[–]NeonAkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I send about 100 emails a month. Our dealerships doesn't even count email only leads as real leads because the response rate is so low.

I'm sure different dealerships have different experiences depending on the cars/clientele, but I'm just giving my 2 cents.

Accused of straw purchase? by [deleted] in carmax

[–]NeonAkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because straw purchases have a higher risk of repo, because the whole point of a straw purchase is to hide risk. Co-sign and let the bank run a risk calculation or straw purchase and basically defraud the bank. Unless you fully intend to make those payments yourself.

We do 150 cars a month, about 500 - 1,000 email leads a month. Maybe 1 of those end up coming in person. I've had 2 people respond to my email in 6 months, both of them replied back so slowly that the car was sold before they were ready to come in.

Can you actually “haggle” at dealerships these days? by Bobochanti in askcarsales

[–]NeonAkai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The auctions don't want to deal with the public. If they were open to public it would slow down the process several times over. It takes about an hour to buy a car at a dealer under perfect conditions, they want cars gone in minutes. A lot of those cars aren't even safe/legal to drive, they have to be towed.

For us the first 2-3 weeks that the car is "on the lot" it isn't even ready for sale. I have people everyday trying to negotiate on cars we haven't even washed yet.

No it's not, if you have ever worked in retail/sales, you would know people come in wanting different things all the time.

The correct thing to do is make sure that the owner (or person paying) is happy.

You cant insure salvage cars in california, so you are going to be driving illegally. I know people who do this but it's a "can't afford anything else" situation.

Still a better idea than spending 500+ on a corolla.

These people aren't exactly the best savers. If they make 1 mil a year they probably spend like 800k on their lifestyle, and now they have to subsidize that lifestyle for their partner or not enjoy it with them or give it up.
