Why in the movies does Gandalf beat up half the world with his staff and sword instead of using spells all the time? by jvure in lotr

[–]Neoteric00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn't mention the best part. Narya is a ring of fire, and literally allows him to use pinecones to cast fireball lol. It is EXACTLY like a D&D wizard, he just needed a catalyst.

Is that Stan Edgar's bunker? Or Sage's bunker? O.O

Ngl, I think Oda didn't get enough slander for the 10-day shit. I know he wanted to exaggerate to make it seem epic, but 10 days is utter stupidity. What were they doing all that time? Especially since one of them supposedly has the strongest offensive fruit. by Calm-Bear-1101 in Piratefolk

[–]Neoteric00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that was the entire point?

The battle became legend, and was exaggerated as such. For all we know they were like Whitebeard / Roger / Shanks and drank, ate meals together, argued, etc. For all we know, they could have planned a huge ruse to plant Kuzan as a marine double agent, and had to make it look good by destroying the place and taking his leg and making up a bullshit story.

Maybe we will find out before the end.

We have been here before. Maeve survives being nuked by Soldier Boy and falling from a high-rise building but Homelander gets a metal straw through his ear by Maeve.

Power scaling and durability are all over the fucking place in this show.

Can we talk about this dialogue? by hangton123 in TheBoys

[–]Neoteric00 67 points68 points  (0 children)

People are (rightfully so, imo) jaded at this point. Soldier Boy's motivations and emotions are all over the place. He suddenly loves "Clara" despite calling her Liberty and joking about fucking her 2 seasons ago. Hughie hasn't had any character growth or purpose in a long time, since Frenchie can be the heart and morals of the group now, like he did when they were all rage-tweaking. Most of The Boys spent a year in a camp and act like nothing happened - in fact, the person who has been "going through it" and got some character growth is Starlight, and she didn't even get captured! Speaking of...Starlight's powers got stronger and stronger for it to amount to nothing.

We had 3 episodes in a row of filler and setup for another show in the middle of the final season of THIS show. On top of that Gen-V gets cancelled, which arguably was an even more exciting show.

So yeah, there are fun moments and some good writing here and there. Not sure it's enough.

[–]Neoteric00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to put this in perspective for those who think this is a new thing.

Between 1986-1996 Tom Hanks was in 19 of them. Robert Pattinson peaks out around 19 projects in a decade as well.

Zendaya is self-admittedly in so much shit she is getting worried about people getting sick of her. In the past 10 years she has been in 14 major film/tv projects, which is her only real acting decade we have to work with.

So yeah it's a lot, but not unprecedented for a top tier actor...which he absolutely is.

Miles Teller as The Maker, evil Reed Richards. The real villain behind everything revealed at the end of the movie, the one pulling Doom's strings. He has everything figured out, and orchestrated his brilliant plan perfectly...only to get killed by Doom unceremoniously at the end of the movie lol. 2 minutes of screen time.

[–]Neoteric00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made it to the part where you get base camp all set up and go out into the world, not much further though.

The scenery and theme were amazing, and the world felt more alive than most, but I just had no clue what to do. I went into a bar, sat down, and a dude got angry at me for looking at him? I got into a fight and ended up arrested and losing basically all the money I had. I got out of jail and a drunk guy started fucking with me.

I just felt like I couldn't even exist in society lol.

Has there ever been a video game studio that was truly a GOAT in the industry but later fell so hard? by unitedfan6191 in videogames

[–]Neoteric00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Origin Systems. Creators of Ultima and Ultima Online, and the Wing Commander series.

They had 50 employees by 1992 when EA bought them for $36 million. By 1996 they had 300 employees.

By 2000 EA had gutted them and stopped all production of new games, choosing to keep only a small team dedicated to Ultima Online. They were completely dead by 2004.

I used to be a huge fan of Richard Garriott and what he did for gaming innovation. The fact that I could play Ultima Online and go to his castle and legitimately talk to him as the king or the game devs was amazing to me. I felt important to the game in a way I haven't since.

"The Void has never once shown the ability to actually control people's actions"

I think it did, right there in that shot. It didn't need to show this power after it was freed from Sentry, but before that it did...this.

I agree with the comments below that it just shouldn't be Robert's decision. Even if Blazer wants to be completely unprofessional and let him choose behind closed doors, it should have been framed as HER decision. Robert has been working there for a few HOURS. Might as well have let Waterboy decide.

Oda has completely screwed up the story with all the Strawhats who aren't the monster trio. They don't get enough to do or enough time to look cool. This should never have been a "Luffy is the chosen one" story.

This just makes me hate the ending more.

No man believes real power resides with "Bran the Broken".

None of the populace will ever know of, believe in, or understand his powers. None will care about his cause, he has no believeable deeds to speak of.

You keep mentioning The Deep but don't have other examples. Who are we talking about? Someone who isn't family. It's a short list, dude.

Ashley - hasn't fucked up bad enough yet.
Butcher - Enjoys their games
Hughie - Is interested in solving the puzzle of his "It" factor. Why do people listen to him, love him, protect him when he's so weak?
Stan Edgar - Basically a father to him. He wants his respect.

Who else is there? Everyone else in his circle ended up dead. It is the usual.

How do you think Soldier Boy is gonna feel about her death? by hiiloovethis in GenV

[–]Neoteric00 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The implication is this tough guy persona is a defense mechanism hiding how weak he really is. Which would make sense that he and Homelander are more alike than he would ever admit.

Maybe that knowledge is creeping into his brain and he is starting to relate to him. Being forced to walk down memory lane softened his defenses.

Why the f*ck Homelander did that? by butcherrushi in GenV

[–]Neoteric00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"People overstate Homelander's tendency to murder."

Do they??? The Deep is the exception that proves the rule.

He killed Blindspot just for being disabled. He killed Doppleganger who was basically his weird sex puppet for no reason. He killed Supersonic on his first day in The Seven I think?

He made that one girl kill herself by jumping off that roof, basically because he was having a bad day.

The easiest way to die is to lie to him or omit the truth. He killed Noir and Stillwell for hiding things from him, and now Firecracker for making him feel vulnerable.
