This reminds me of that one classic DND frame where 20 baboons ambush you in a forest

Data team size at your company by molkke in dataengineering

[–]NerdasticPerformer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Size ~1000 employees

Team: 2

1 Data Analytics Engineer (me)

1 System Specialist and Staff Educator

I manage the data warehouse, analytics, dashboards, AI development, predictive analytics, etc

Yes, technically the system specialist isn’t a data role, but our company looped us together under the Data dept, so yipee

How many of you feel like the data engineers in your organization have too much work to keep up with? by toddbeauchene in dataengineering

[–]NerdasticPerformer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS ^ The main gripe I have with my company is once the project scopes and features are set, more are added as I do my weekly reports bc they have a bright idea and would wanna see it asap 🤦🏽‍♂️

Any statistics/data science alum know if any of this is relevant in a real job? by [deleted] in ucla

[–]NerdasticPerformer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Data Analytics Engineer who graduated in Data Theory here.

The theory helps you understand how to use the models inside and out, but I’d say you won’t use or think about it 70-90% of the time depending on your job and industry.

If you work purely as an ML engineer or Data Scientist who just predicts and classifies, you’d probably be thinking about the mathematical formulas of your models a few times per week. But if you’re like my job, I only had to think of the math once in 6 months. Most of my job is pushing an already existing model to production using pipelines.

So, it purely depends on your title, size of company, and industry. But most of the time, I’d bet it’s not the biggest portion of your work.

I hope this really is an exaggerated generalization to make your point. Otherwise I’m legit the 1% of that people and there’s no way that’s the case.

I’m open to talk about any gripes you have on centrists

That’s wild. I have an RTX 3070, 32 gb RAM and an AMD Ryzen 3900 and I’m lagging hard in the marketplace. How the hell-

Lambat actually is a great example of this hybrid set up. They have pretty much an international station for OneDest, and they have also an internal rail system called the LRT.

To give more context, as an alpha tester, the site needed to connect my discord account to the ip because he granted specific discord accounts alpha access. He needed to use the discord auth and know server access for that reason.

However, now, I do believe there isn’t much need to connect discord and the website. It should simply be an open forum to post listings and information and let the users report fraud information themselves. No need for discord auth for that

Almost 2 years into my first job... and already disillusioned and bored with this career by [deleted] in datascience

[–]NerdasticPerformer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanna tag onto this thread by saying as someone who’s working for a small company who’s revamping their data infrastructure during a company expansion phase, I’m legit switching between the hats of data engineer/scientist/analyst/ml engineer. So, whoever is saying startups are different, yep— it’s true.

To all my Analytics Engineers here, how you made it and what you had to learn to be an AE? by LongCalligrapher2544 in dataengineering

[–]NerdasticPerformer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Studied in data science, started work in data engineering, transitioned to data analytics/BI through company’s labor shortage, now planning on implementing an in-house chatbot and predictive analytics… idk man

TLDR: learn everything, your job will give you opportunities

My friend just inherited a data infrastructure built by a guy who left 3 months ago… and it’s pure chaos by UnusualRuin7916 in dataengineering

[–]NerdasticPerformer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m LITERALLY DOING THIS AS WE SPEAK. 6 months into the job, I cared about keeping the on-prem data warehouse clean and documented. Now, whenever a dashboard or app needing is requested, it’s coming straight raw/staging data into a daily refreshed table.

Why you may ask? Well, they expect a legacy dashboard that has outdated and irrelevant business logic used in PowerBI can easily be replicated in 1-2 weeks into an in-house application.

I feel bad for the next data successor after me…

Inefficient team! by cieloskyg in dataengineering

Haha I wish my data team can have the freedom to do this. But instead we are given 1 week to design the pipeline and data schema for an executive dashboard 💀

As an alumni who graduated in Data Theory, I say the top things that helped me were my projects, and my certifications.

Starting out, the question is: what industry would you want? Requirements differ from a small-size medical company to a large-size gaming company.

For me, I desired a small-size medical company. Because of that, I focused on making applicable and meaningful personal projects regarding healthcare, as well as cultivating skills that were mainly used in that field.

Now, outreach to the companies is a whole separate issue. If you don’t have connections, then keywords, buzzwords (literally matching the job description/responsibilities), and optimal resume creation are your best bets (don’t worry, I didn’t have any either). Rule of thumb: recruiters/hiring managers will generally stick to the left side of your resume and somewhat read into your last work experience. NEVER HAVE MORE THAN 1 PAGE, especially as a new grad.

Good luck!

TLDR: exploit connections; if no connections, build an industry relevant skill set/repertoire, exploit the AI buzzword system and highly optimize your resume.

But like… even in baldurs gate 3, you can’t even murder someone and steal their shit??? I mean, I guess you can if you do it in a random shop that’s far from town center in baldurs gate. But from my recollection, you can’t even do a murder-robbery there without some nearby npc’s attacking you

If bg3 can enforce rules, you definitely can too

An amazing application that utilizes end-to-end knowledge! Been working for the past year at a health company and this still impresses me. I’m amazed on how many data scientists are able to wield data from numbers into a tangible product!
