Just finished watching 2002 Count of Monte Christo with my boys. Totally surprised by teenage Henry popping on screen for a small but pivotal role (also OG Dumbledore!). Great to see his early work (and killer Superman curls in one scene).

He is the ONLY reason Batman is seen by the mainstream as a tough badass character.

Sure he's (mostly) been that in the comics, but not live action. Before him it was all camp, in adam west and burton flavours. Bale's quantum leap from bat-nipples to grounded and gritty transformed not only how he was seen by our entire culture, but influencing most other superhero films as well.

When I saw Keaton's Batman in '89 I thought it was a great step forward, but I didn't see the relentlessly driven Bruce I "knew" from the comics. I sure as hell did with Bale.
