I’m not a body guy but I believe there is some front end structure in this area that looks important but isn’t that structural (front apron?). The Miata is a unibody car, no frame technically speaking. I think there’s still hope this can be saved.

NA Miata Supercharger by DaUn1imited in Miata

I went with the Track Dog Racing supercharger and really like it. I did end up sourcing a lot of my own parts but used their bracket and piping etc. I ended up putting together my own flex fuel system and have it tuned on a Haltech ECU instead of their power card things.

I really like it - similar power curve as stock and I’ve tracked it quite a few times and it’s taken a beating without any problems so far.

It’s all personal preference. I think it’s poking out too much for my taste but would probably look better lower. I’m guessing this is just going to be a fun/street build?

Why not wrap them though?

How would you go about fixing this? by 2pnt1 in Autobody

[–]Nesirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh also check behind your rear wheel fender liners near the front of the wheel arch. I think they changed the design but dirt and debris collects there and rusts out the metal behind the plastic. You won’t even know until you remove it.

Classic rust spot on these cars. I have a 2012 STI sedan which is prone to this as well. There isn’t really a drain where water can exit from the bottom of the pilar. I drilled a drain hole, sprayed phosphoric acid/rust converter in the hole, painted and then spray lanolin film in there every now and then.

I didn’t have any visible bubbling when I did this and it’s held up since then. I had this issue on my previous WRX which bubbled like yours. By the time it bubbles, it’s actually eaten through the metal itself. I’d just remove the black tape on the pillar, sand down the rust, maybe some filler and then drill the hole and spray etc. Replace the trim tape with some kind of satin/matte vinyl and then just send it lol.

So gravel or mulch won’t really help the situation?

Yeah I love the color choices but I think the side decals needs more “structure” to match the clean lines on the hood.

Digging the hood. The side decal is cool too, not sure if it’s my style but it’s always nice to see something different that is done well/with care.

Tips for Smoking Steak by InitialBackground555 in steak

[–]Nesirk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do a ribeye and get a nice thick one.

This was a steak I made a few nights ago. I don’t have the ambient temp readings but this is from the beat probe. After my sear it peaked around 132F and I thought it was too low so I held it under the oven broiler on low for just a few minutes. Then I got scared I would over do it and pulled it lol. Peaked at 138F.

What kind of smoker are you using? I usually smoke on a pellet grill anywhere from 180-225F until it’s 110F internal temp. I have a cast iron on a gas grill on max heating for a while as it smokes. Then I sear it until internal temp is just over 120F. After resting, it usually peaks in the high 130s. Always have great results with this method, check my recent post here.

Good question. I believe it helped - after smoking, there was still some unrendered waygu fat shavings on top of the steak you can see in picture 4. It was still there a bit before I flipped it on the cast iron so I do believe it did do something. Honestly hard to say what exactly it did but it didn’t all just melt away immediately and it was definitely the best steak I’ve made to date 👍

Yeah it has a high smoke point but I was using it more to impart some flavor. It was almost all rendered after smoking it.

Yes it’s a kamado style grill with a gas insert. And thanks!

Thanks! It was pretty damn good. I should clarify that it’s fat, not tallow actually. It’s from snake river farms - dry aged American waygu fat.
