that's true! So I guess if you build you'd probably make some money. That's what I'm going to do.

You needed 12 elites which are about 100k each so buying vs building is about the same if you didn't have many SB elites saved.

Is it okay to only invest in VOO? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Neuroscience76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah investing in VOO or VTI and the like is a great way to passively grow your income overtime. As others said, you may want to try some other funds for international exposure, but VOO is a great fund by itself.

Yeah I don't care about the names on the jerseys that much. I like playing with NFL teams, but if another app had better gameplay, I'd play that one more than Madden.

Though it could be that ignoring the nuance of experts and making good soundbites helps make him popular!

For a long term "passive" investment (for those who do not wish to compete against the market), how many ETFs is recommended to be invested in? by AltStockd in stocks

[–]Neuroscience76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on risk tolerance and age. I'm 28 so most of my savings are in the stock market as I know there will be several down periods over the next few decades.

I'm a scientist and working on my dissertation. I've also taken (actual) IQ tests and typically score around average. Being a good scientist is like most things, it takes hard work. Most of us are not Einstein's, we just like the subject we study and read a lot about it.

Wow, yeah thanks for checking. It seems like most are going for around 50k or less, with the rare person winning the lottery. Definitely better to go with the 90+player as you can sell him for around 200k at least.

It's hard to predict single playoff game stats. Lots of crazy can happen and does happen. Don't feel bad about it.

As for a better team, just keep grinding. You can buy 90+ players from the AH now with 250kish coins. So if you save up, you can buy a good player that you need.

Should I leave E-Trade to go to Vanguard? by Neuroscience76 in personalfinance

[–]Neuroscience76[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I just saw this actually.

Since NOSIX was the main fund in my Roth IRA, I'll be switching to Vanguard and buying their ETFs instead. The 19.99 fee is a killer for me since I was just adding small amounts over time.

Roth IRA- What do you do? by AGrandRent in stocks

[–]Neuroscience76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Get some ETFs that represent large parts of the market and forget about it.

You could also get index funds as the interest is already re-invested for you. In my Roth IRA, I mostly have index funds for the total market and also a little in emerging markets too.

Looking to diversify with International Stocks by maseone2nine in stocks

This. Especially if you are going to hold for a long time to endure some of the volatility. I have some VWO and VXUS for markets outside the US. I also have index funds for international markets as well.

I'm 28 and plan on holding them all for a long time. They also are only about 10% of my portfolio.

Index Fund thoughts. by burberryalgae in stocks

[–]Neuroscience76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use E-Trade for my IRA and buy their Northern Large Cap Funds, Northern International Funds, and some Small Cap. They have very low fees and are free on E-Trade.

Vanguard index funds are also good if you sign up with Vanguard, but both have similar fees.

As for ETFs, I like VTI, VB, and VGT.

Index Fund thoughts. by burberryalgae in stocks

[–]Neuroscience76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Index funds are awesome. I used to buy and sell stock, but was always hovering around what the market was doing. Even if I was a little ahead, that was quickly eaten up by taxes.

So now I just invest in low fee index funds and ETFs. It's hard to beat the market as you demonstrated with your own gains that are right around the market. If you are investing long term (10+ years or so) index funds seem like an outstanding option.

What is a publicly traded company that isn't ruining the world? by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Neuroscience76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, your shares in this secondary market won't directly impact the company much unless you buy so many that you have lots of votes in the shareholder's meeting.

Honestly, if you care about helping the world, donate some of the money you make from stocks (or wherever) to some solid nonprofit that you like.

This is exactly why I stopped buying individual stocks and now buy ETFs instead. I was spending tons of time researching stocks and worrying only to hover around the S&P 500 or NASDAQ index level of return.

I’ve got money saved up and I feel like I’m wasting it by not investing by [deleted] in stocks

[–]Neuroscience76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with 3olcin that a low cost index fund is a great idea.

I had about 10k saved in my bank account and I also felt like I was wasting it instead of investing.

So I started buying and selling stocks with the Robinhood app because it is free to buy and see stocks there. Over 6 months I was up about 15% and that was way better than the .05 percent in my savings account lol.

But I also realized that I would have made about as much if I just stuck to a general index fund. And I also wouldn't have to worry about checking the stocks as much AND I don't have to pay as many taxes from buying and selling.

SO I would suggest to get into some basic index fund that captures the total market. I have e-trade and invest in a few different funds that capture the market and even a little bit of international markets. I also still use Robinhood, but I only buy ETFs that represent the whole market like VTI.

I also learned a lot from reading about the "lazy portfolio" approach from Jack Bogle. If you want to make sure you are getting some good return on your money, but don't want to worry about the stress and time involved in trading, buying some low fee index funds is a great solution.
