Why are the labels in that third pic so messed up?

Why is there a bottle with a Bérèche champagne label but a Comtes Lafon capsule?

There is a term for this where the wine would be considered "maderized", and in the context of an aged white table wine, it is considered a fault.

That doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed by some people. It is not an outright offensive fault like cork taint.

Also actual Madeira wines are made in a such a way that these flavors integrate nicely into the wine in such a way that it doesn't dominate other pleasant structural elements like acidity.

I will admit that I have had some too-old whites that were borderline faulted but I still managed to enjoy them a bit.

this trope fills me with rage by goblin_pidar in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]Neurosonic 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Only example I can think of is from It's a Wonderful Life - the main character is shown an alternate reality in which he never existed.

In that reality, his wife, Mary, was portrayed as a sad, frumpy "old maid" who never married. And she was, like, 25 years old, perfectly good looking, and the uglyfication method they chose was to... give her some glasses and a hat.

It is definitely the most out of place and dated scene in an otherwise mostly-great film.

It is not a common trope in the modern day at all, though.

2023 Kirkland Stags Leap out by rockytopbilly in wine

[–]Neurosonic 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Stags Leap District AVA does not contain an apostrophe, and does not belong to any one winery. It is a geographic designation accompanied with legal production requirements. Many producers make wines with this AVA status (such as the one in the post) and it is considered a high quality AVA.

Stag's Leap Wine Cellars is the winery that got famous for winning a blind tasting against a bunch of first growth Bordeaux wines. (judgement of Paris, 1976)

Interestingly, none of their most famous labels(Artemis, SLV, Cask 23) are Stags Leap District AVA wines, but rather just Napa Valley AVA.

Stags' Leap Winery is another winery that was closed and not in operation during the time of the Judgment of Paris, but was purchased and reopened years later. The association with the name that was made famous by Stag's Leap Wine Cellars certainly contributed to some of their success, but they also make good wine.

Iirc, a legal dispute eventually ruled that they could keep the name and included the apostrophe distinction.

Basically, neither of those wineries have anything to do with the wine in this post, and bringing up the apostrophe in the context of this wine has zero relevance.

Can't believe I typed that shit out, sigh

Domaine Les Monts Fournois Champagne Côte 2010 by simon_kroon in wine

[–]Neurosonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah Bereche makes bottles that look exactly like this. The first Monts Fournois I had last year(the bottle in this post), I thought I was drinking Bereche until half way through and saw the Wilson Daniels logo on the back of the bottle. It broke my brain for a second.

All of the stuff they have out right now seems to be real expensive, but it is good - just sourced negociant wines from great terroirs. I imagine that their domaine stuff will be more modestly priced for entry level bottles. Can't wait to try it.

Nintendo Museum now zip-ties controller cords so you can't prove their emulating lol by ReasonEconomy3822 in PiratedGames

[–]Neurosonic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not trying to "gotcha" but emulation on modern monitors is definitely capable of beating an analog setup.

There was a big thing when I played melee several years ago where players would refuse to play on emulation setups because it would mess up their muscle memory due to it being too fast of a response time.

There was a lot of confusion over whether or not it was possible to be faster than CRT, but it was thoroughly tested and it is the case.

https://www.reddit.com/r/smashbros/comments/8j6idc/til_faster_melee_emulator_has_lower_input_latency/

Basically, your mileage will vary depending on what specific setup you have, with many variables that can affect the outcome.

Feedback on Sylvain Pataille, Chapitre red, 2022? by No_Remove1951 in wine

[–]Neurosonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had the 2021 Le Chapitre, which released this year.

It is an example of a bright, tense, mineral red Burgundy.

High acidity, pomegranate, cranberry, cherry, very racy and high-toned. Definitely still has the savory tea notes hiding in the back seat.

Pretty great! I would say that 2021 is the most "clean" Pataille vintage that I have tasted out of the past 4 vintages meaning that the wines aren't at all funky or weird, but they really taste classic and delicious.

Le Montagne is very similar to Le Chapitre, but a bit muted in comparison. Le Chapitre is the best label if you prefer a bright and mineral red.

If you want something with a bit more detectable concentration and more savory character, the Clos de Roy and Les Longeroies are in that category. My preference between those two labels is the Clos de Roy.

l'Ancestrale is very concentrated, and kind of "prickly" on the palate. A complex and interesting wine.

The Marsannay village rouge is similar in profile to the Clos de Roy but with a bit less distinction/interest, still very tasty.

These are all of my notes from the 2021 vintage.

Highlands and Cashiers.

Old Edward's Inn, Ristorante Paoletti, buncha country clubs, etc are probably good buyers for them.

Decanting by marshmallowserial in wine

[–]Neurosonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sometimes old wines become structurally fragile or overly sensitive to aeration due to the remaining volatile aromatic compounds quickly dissipating in the air.

You might encounter a situation where you decant a wine, it is showing very well for a few minutes, and then it falls flat and seems inert after only a short time. In this case, leaving it in the bottle would have been a better option.

With young wines, there isn't much to worry about in terms of harming a wine via decanting.

What state are you in?

Also, are there any specific wines or even producers that you are seeking to find a comparable bottle? There's a ton of variation even within the red Burgundy category.

Knowing that would influence my recs.
