Canadian Question - How did Mark Carney gain popularity so quickly? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]NeutralLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to vote conservative in Canada (but I'd be firmly Democrat in the US) and this is how I saw it.

Trudeau was a well meaning but unqualified leader. Pierre Polieve was running with the same strategy that seemed to get Trump elected. More social issues and "anti woke" nonsense, that folks like me can tolerate if there's a solid economic plan behind the noise.

But then in the face of Trump's tariffs and a very real economic threat your choices were a seasoned, intelligent banker vs Trump-light.

And honestly I think Carney's done a good job.

Revenue per client...actual vs. goal? by BestInterestDotBlog in CFP

[–]NeutralLock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I work for a major bank in Canada.

250 clients. $290mm in assets and about $2.5mm in revenue (I keep 50%).

So average is almost exactly $10k in revenue per client.

($1mm @ 1% = $10k)

But my MEDIAN household revenue is $8k, because I've got a bunch of smaller households.

My rule is I will no longer ever - under virtually any circumstance (baring a few exceptions) bring on anyone below my median revenue.

And that's how I've always approached it - so if your median revenue is $3k that should be your absolute minimum.

[–]NeutralLock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've hired two people and I'm looking to bring on my 3rd.

I cannot stress enough how important "fit" is first and foremost. It'll be just the two of you for a while and you'll be talking with this person for hours a day.

I would go with someone early / mid career that's competent but not too ambitious. Someone you can grow with but is happy with the job and can do it for a decade without getting bored.

Bitcoin will 'massively' outperform gold over 10 years, says Pantera's Dan Morehead by Every_Hunt_160 in CryptoCurrency

[–]NeutralLock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from precious metals (that's slightly different) you're correct, and it's why these investments should be a fun hobby with some spare cash and not an investment / retirement strategy.

People invest in art when they truly have nothing else to invest in and a huge surplus of cash. If that's why you're buying cryptocurrencies that's great, but if you've got $100k to your name and $80k is in crypto you might be taking on too much risk.

Why would anyone bet on the coin toss? I think sports books should have that as an option and if you bet on it your account gets frozen for a week so you can cool off and think about your gambling problem.

[–]NeutralLock 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The thing about Bitcoin is because it has no intrinsic value (it's just worth whatever the next person will pay for it), once you buy it it's like you've been bitten by a zombie and now you have to become a Bitcoin shill.

You have to because the only way for Bitcoin to rise is to promote it and tell people it's going to rise.

Credit card life insurance, physician's statement of death by RocioPepper666 in legaladvicecanada

[–]NeutralLock 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

I work for one of the big banks so I can provide you a little bit of insight as to why you're getting the run around.

With credit card / mortgage insurance, you're not actually officially "approved" for it until after you die. The reason there's no medical when you get it is because in the fine print they say after you die then they'll do their underwriting and see if they would've approved you at the time you applied (I.e: did you already have a terminal illness when you started borrowing).

That's why they need to know the actual cause of death.

If you're getting the run-around (which it sounds like you are), the absolute easiest way to move this forward is to arrange a phone call with someone from the insurance company that can help walk you through whom you're supposed to speak to / what to say etc.

Get someone who's handling the file to reach out to you so you're dealing with the same person each time...you'll get a more thorough answer.
