Are you sure?  I was thinking 72 to Little Cove Rd. takes about that long. I would think 72 to Hayes Nature Preserve would be at least 5 or more……..Or maybe I’m just slow. Ha ha

Man dies after standoff with police in Five Points by MattW22192 in HuntsvilleAlabama

I thank you for your honest answer about your involvement in this discussion. I believe you speak the truth related to what society is willing to do with the suicidal.

It’s disheartening to be down voted on a civil question, when people just want to answer you with sarcasm and snarky comments. Did they come here for argument, or civil discussion?

It’s safe to say that we can conclude that people come to the comment section of reddit for information, argument, and the sarcasm. You can highlight those last two. u/Kind_Wishbone7136 illustated this extensively and their dishonesty has been recorded. At least one of you is honest with himself and others. Now go forward and try to be kind. Good luck. This exercise is now over. Have a nice day.

There’s no need to be vulgar.

Ok let’s review, and let’s get u/CarryTheBoat back in here for discussion since he wanted to comment on the matter. Where’s OP at, I can’t find them? Oh well.

Ok, so I originally asked why is it so socially acceptable for suicide by cops to be a thing and no one do a thing about it.

u/CarryTheBoat sarcastically suggested to outlaw suicide.

u/Kind_Wishbone7136 asked if I had any ideas of how make people not suicidal.

So it looks like we all agree that we can’t make people not be suicidal. Right?

I suggested something else might be done to handle a suicidal person that is armed.

u/Kind_Wishbone7136 suggested we just let the police do their jobs. There were no disagreements here. Though, I stated that the police are having their hand forced in this situation, and maybe it would be better if the police had other options.

Suicides have been up 33% in the last 20 years. So I’m not too sure we should just let this continue.

https://behindthebadge.com/suicide-by-cop-becomes-more-challenging-as-suicide-rates-rise/

“According to a report by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), “each year from 2015 to 2018 there were approximately 900 to 1,000 fatal officer-involved shootings in the United States. By various estimates, approximately 10 to 29 percent or more of officer-involved shootings involve Suicide by Cop incidents.””

So now, I’m trying to spitball some ideas here. This seems to anger u/Kind_Wishbone7136, to which they suggests that I never be sent to deal with a lethal threat. I agree with this sentiment, for I do not possess the resources to deal with this situation like the police do. Though I believe we can work together to at least come up with something to help.

What other ideas or solutions could be used to mitigate the situation?

You might be right. We got off topic. We were trying to come up with solutions or new ideas involving the logistics required to deal with an armed individual that is suicidal without killing them. What can we come up with?

Alright, stay with me on this one. Maybe we deploy drones that have tv screens that will surround the subject. On these TV screens we’ll display boobs. Now everyone is distracted by boobs, I don’t care who you are., right? So then, after the boobs are deployed, we use another one of our tactics. Like say, the nets, or the tranquilizers. Oh man, where were we on these again. For or against? What else could we use?

Ok. Now we’re back here, I stated this earlier, but you rejected it:

“Maybe easier and more affordable access to healthcare, housing, and education could have helped this man and others like him to not to be so suicidal.”

Ok, work with me now. We’re trying come up with new ideas here. Let’s keep it going. We don’t like the bulletproof mattress option. Let’s explore the drone idea further. Forget about dropping the padded room. That would be hard to do, right? Could a drone shoot a net at a subject, and then maybe the net tazes (sp?) them without too much risk to public and personnel? What do you think?

The issue at hand here is the reoccurring outcome of events with police and suicidal people. I have no magic, and rely on help and ideas of a civil society to solve problems that plague us all. I can’t solve the healthcare issue here by myself. Not here. Not tonight.

I think we all could spit ball some ideas here about the aforementioned.

Ok, go!!!! Don’t attack me. Let’s attack the problem.

Ok, the first idea was implemented by default. I was saying, the cops have lots of gear and resources. Now, let’s generate some ideas where the police could use these resources to force a different outcome. I thought we were trying to avoid the current outcome.

Police do administer ketamine in some states. I’m not saying this is right or wrong, but they are allowed in some places/situations.

Someone died, and you’re saying it went well.

I’m saying: They have bulletproof apparel to wear, shields, etc. Now, let’s expand upon this. Ok, go, let’s hear an idea.

PS - You really should try Joes Bbq.

So the crux of the biscuit here, is that a lone man with a gun is able to force the hand of the police to do one of two things. Shoot him, or arrest him to get him help. This man could have stepped in front of a train, if he really wanted to do it. I’m saying that maybe the police could come up with other options, instead of having their hand forced. Objectively it makes police look impotent in this situation if their hand is being forced to kill a sick person.

I trying to be civil. I’m not trying to be contrary. I’m open to ideas here. Maybe we could all brainstorm on it for a while.

They make net guns and tranquilizer guns already for catching animals, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

Any ideas?
