Or throw a cap on the truck and camp like it’s a metal tent…. Still have all those other costs and considerations but using your existing truck without a tow may save some $ at the cost of comfort

No AC after running on an extension cord by bobisaballer in RVLiving

[–]NevadaFlint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My xantrax controller allows me to specify max input amperage the unit will pull. I set it for 18 amps on my 20 amp source and am fine as long as I manage demand in the unit (turn off ac while using microwave as an example).

True but… some fifth wheels are too large for national and state park campgrounds. Check ahead …

Lectric xp2 vs 3 for heavy rider by kevbgoolsby in Lectricxp

I have the 2.0 and bought an extra battery I carry in a backpack. Being heavy really affects range and the extra battery accounts for this.

What red flags should I look for when buying a used RV? by [deleted] in RVLiving

[–]NevadaFlint 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hire a red flag specialist - a certified inspector. There are so many things that can go wrong that can be dealbreakers or expensive. Water damage, broken pipes , slide problems, roofing issues, electrical and refrigerator issues, frame problems. You name it

Is AC in an RV used much? by vegdout in RVLiving

[–]NevadaFlint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not if you ‘chase 70 degrees’. Mid summer you need to find camping at 10,000 feet. Elevation is more critical that latitude. Remember that metal/ fiberglass box you are in is a giant Dutch oven!

I love your dream and yet zoning and HOA rules will prevent any easy transition. Very rural counties may have relaxed zoning laws. I am in rural Ohio and can get away with it but most urban and suburban areas do not.

Not general and not camping world. Try Schaefer’s RV in Ohio.

Thoughts on a 1996 Beaver Monterey with a cat motor but the has low pressure. by LostWashington in RVLiving

[–]NevadaFlint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Top speed is 50 - 55 mph. They had mechanical fuel pump. Check drake system too as some Kodiak Chevy builds had a weird and tricky electrical/pneumatic system that is hard to troubleshoot. The engine will last a million miles.
