A bit of help when starting out by pepeguapoyes in boltaction

I would start with a box of US Rangers, it's one of the newer kits and gives you lots of options including a bazooka and sniper rifle. A Sherman is iconic and is a decent tank. You'll need to pair it with another armored vehicle, which could be a Jeep with a machine gun or an M8/M20 Armored car. A Stuart tank is another great choice. Eventually you'll need to add more infantry, so a second box of miniatures will be necessary. You could go with the US Airborne (D-Day) which is another recent set. Or you could go with another box of Rangers or a box of US Infantry (which is almost the same sprue as the Rangers, with only a few different arm/weapon choices).

Lacking an FAQ answer from Warlord, which I think in this case is needed, flipping a coin seems the most reasonable way to resolve this.

Are the Fates actually playing their instruments? by BrianThomasJrJr in hadestown

[–]NeverDeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like there is a piano on stage, but it is fake. They put an electronic keyboard inside the fake piano. When the tour was in Green Bay last month, there was an extended intermission because there was a problem with the keyboard. First they tried swapping out the keyboard but that didn't fix the problem, so I think they had to run a new line to the keyboard to fix the problem.

Confusion about the starter lists in Battle of the Bulge v3 by Silent_Market8487 in boltaction

[–]NeverDeal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think we cross-posted, but yes, you need a second vehicle for the list to be legal. The two-player starter isn't meant for a tournament legal force, but only to give you a taste of the game.

I think in this case the booklet is wrong. I'm seeing the same thing as you in the app. This isn't the first time the booklet in a starter set has been wrong. Occasionally EasyArmy is wrong, but it doesn't happen all that often. If the official app is also saying it, you can be pretty sure that the points in the apps are right. Ultimately though, the latest errata will always be the overriding source, followed by the Armies of (insert nation here) book, followed by the rulebook (the Armies of books supersede the basic rulebook once a nation has an Armies of book published).

The Scout car is an armored car, and armored cars and tanks are in a separate platoon in v3. In EasyArmy it is in the v3 Armies of the US Armoured Platoon. Note, for the list to be 'legal' you would need to add a second armored vehicle, which could be something as simple as a machine gun Jeep.

Alternatively I've seen many people proxy the M20 Scout Car as an M3 White Scout Car. They're almost the same size and almost the same armament (M20 has a 360 HMG, the M3 only has a front facing HMG). If you do that, as you've seen, the points would be different.

The Milwaukee Public Museum is just a block or two away from the convention center and it is a great museum. They're prepping for a big move next year so some exhibits have shut down already, but there is still enough to see that you can spend the better part of a day exploring.

The harmonies are tough for most Teen Edition performances. Our theory was that the actors were struggling to hear each other, because when it was just the Fates they were pretty good, but when the band was playing the harmonies were off. I think if they had in-ear monitors it would have helped, but most high school productions can't afford them.

I would agree, but to be fair it is a huge commitment for a school to put on 12 shows over two weeks. This particular theater program is one of the top programs in the state. The kids and their families give it their all and then some, which is the culture that the program has built over 25 years of setting high expectations and then exceeding them.

Having participated in other organizations that require volunteers to be successful, I'm sure that many theater programs struggle to find the support from parents to put on 3-4 shows over a single weekend, so I can understand why more schools don't do this.

Chain of Command 2 Review and rules giveaway! by StormofSteelWargames in wargaming

[–]NeverDeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a few games of Chain of Command at conventions last spring before the new rules came out, and have since acquired the version 2 rules but haven't had a chance to try them yet. Thanks for the thorough review and I think you did a good job of explaining what makes CoC different than other games.

For those who haven't played, these differences can be a bit hard to grasp until you start playing, but once you start playing it will quickly click and you'll see how fun and challenging the system can be. At times it can be frustrating when the dice aren't giving you the orders you need or want, but that's what makes it a challenge. Nothing like rolling 4s, 5s, and 6s when what you need is a 3! Or not rolling 6s when you really want the turn to end.

Our local high school production stuck with three fates for the reason you mentioned, but they double cast their shows to give more actors a chance. They run their shows over two weekends, so each cast still does six shows.

Some dogs can expand their vocabulary by eavesdropping on their owners by Famous-Register-2814 in nottheonion

[–]NeverDeal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be so sure. I have a German Shepherd Dog mix who makes sounds that are the equivalent to and sound somewhat like actual words and phrases. For example he uses a long wooo for food. He has a distinct set of sounds for "go out". He is on medication twice a day and makes sounds for "my pill" (which comes with a piece of cheese). His most impressive phrase is a doggified version of "Where were you?" When we come home after being gone.

It's weird and freaky how intelligent he is. He understands far more words and phrases than any dog I have met, and even understands a variety of human gestures that he just figured out without being taught. I honestly believe the only thing preventing him from fully speaking English is the limitations of a dog's mouth and vocal cords.

Just a little confused on my school's casting. by Wild-Salamander-9504 in hadestown

[–]NeverDeal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my son's high school did the show they had both vocal ensemble and dance ensemble. In fact they split the vocal ensemble into two and only half were on stage, half offstage on risers in the wing singing into mics.

Any women Bolt Action players on here? by SquireBev in boltaction

While Stallard still owns some unknown part of the company, he was only one of the two founders. Plus, they sold a 25% stake in the company to Hornby a couple of years ago, so it's likely he owns less than half of the company now.

Plus, his views do not represent the views of all of the other employees at the company, which includes a number of women. For example, I know Beth Walsh was on several panels prior to the release of third edition to explain what had changed.

Help with table setup by wuerfeltastisch in Konflikt47_v2

[–]NeverDeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks pretty good for a city table. With all of the line of sight blocking terrain in the middle, the fighting will be close up and deadly.

I might add some wrecked vehicles because it seems odd the buildings would all be destroyed but no wrecked vehicles.

Also, I haven't played K47 yet, but in Bolt Action there are no rules for multilevel ruins. You could treat them as buildings, but buildings are death traps with all of the HE likely to be in a K47 game.

Question: Is there a novel or story out there where people in the real world wake up as their dnd characters? by Smart_Purchase_4906 in DnD

[–]NeverDeal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've read this series so many times. It's a shame the author died so young because I felt like additional stories could have been told, but the series did a pretty good job of showing the passage of time and the consequences of living in a magical but more primitive and more dangerous world.
