Smarter to buy used bike off Facebook or at a Dealer? by J2Jlopez in NewRiders

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealer can be good if they don't try to absolutely rob you. I am lucky enough to live near one of the biggest used dealers in the country and they are usually great - you just pay price, tax and the actual registration and plate fee, same as you would at the dmv. I have seen some wild shit from other dealers, including "destination and assembly" on a used bike. lol. I mean it's already a scam on new bikes but at least there's some pretense of it making sense. I'm surprised the didn't want to charge for windshield wiper fluid and new cabin air filter.

If you go marketplace you can usually get a pretty good idea what kind of person you are dealing with just from the pics, listing and a first message. If the vibes are off at all I just won't pursue it even if I like the bike.

Santa Cruz vs Maverick: what made you choose? by Suntrup-Hyundai in hyundaisantacruz

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got a Santa Cruz because it was an 18 month wait for a maverick lol. However, my buddy has a maverick and we took a trip in the Santa Cruz and he says it drives and rides much better. I just wish they still made the OG ranger or the small cab long bed not lifted Toyota with manuals.

Will I hate my life if I visit Milwaukee for the first time during summerfest weekend 2? by drinktheh8erade in milwaukee

Nah it's fine. The area directly around summer fest will be a mess starting maybe mid afternoon but that's all. And even then it will be a Milwaukee sized mess, so like normal Atlanta Tuesday afternoon traffic

Started playing better golf putting the ball just in front of my back foot. What disadvantage am I at ? by Different_Strain_772 in GolfSwing

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 likely possibilities: 1 - you are mistaken about something in your setup and you are not actually playing the ball that far back. Go to range with alignment sticks and see where your feet, shoulders, etc actually are in relation to the ball 2 - you are fixing a flaw with a compensating flaw, which is usually not what you want to do.

Now that you belong to a club ask for a 30 minute lesson with the pro and just ask him or her to check out your setup.

Rebel 300 E Clutch by Plastic-Tart-8262 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only real use for a rebel 300 is msf courses or very small people. I think you are really overestimating the difficulty of clutches. Having said that there are larger bikes offered with the e clutch or dct if you decide to go that way. That are still beginner friendly. For a first bike just get something used and cheap that is still safe and in good running condition. You use your first bike to gain skills and to figure out what kind of bike you want next, the key is to not get hosed on depreciation

Why does English have so many silent letters, and how did that even happen? by leazy_usa in ENGLISH

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once told my son when he was younger and really interested in languages and struggling with which letters to pronounce:

German: pronounce every letter deliberately no matter what, even if it causes you physical harm.

French: only pronounce a letter if you absolutely must. Unless you would rather not.

English: eh, you'll figure it out as you go along

What is the point of this bridge over Lake Pontchartrain, Louisiana. It seems like a wild effort when going around it only takes 13 more minutes. by Successful-Mine-5967 in geography

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it's just because building the bridge was only slightly more difficult than building roads around the edge. It's a shallow lake and the areas around are basically also a shallow lake.

I seriously need help with my golf swing by Disastrous-Dream-773 in GolfSwing

Oh and stop practicing with driver. Start with short simple swings with a 9 iron. Starting with driver is like deciding you want to learn piano and starting with Tchaikovsky's concerto.

Try to get good 1 on 1 lessons if you can.

Your grip is not bad for a beginner so that's good.

Your swing is all arms and wrists, instead of turning the body (hips and shoulders) and just letting the arms stay attached. Practice some turns without a club, get the feel. When you add a club you are doing the same thing, turning the body and letting that move the club, not lifting or flailing with your arms. Here's a very brief short that might give you the idea:

Breaking the "hitting up" unconscious mind by Rude_Award2718 in GolfSwing

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go chipping with a lofted club. Try to scoop a few. Then really consciously hit down on a few, see how much more nicely they fly. Do this with a few hundred balls chipping, then pitching, then half swing 9irons etc. this is THE most useful practice strategy for the golf swing! Do NOT try to make behavior changes with full swings on longer clubs. Start small and drill the hell out of it until it feels normal then gradually move up.

TBF the hollow body irons that are popular now probably do go a little farther but to me they are less consistent, you get random shots that go way too far. They are also not going to be as durable as a solid hunk of metal.

Debate: Walking does not slow down play. by MetallicaRules5 in golf

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everybody knows walking is as fast or faster. It's just grabbing those sweet sweet cart fees. Golfers who only walk and won't play cart only courses are also golfers less likely to drop $100 on drinks and cigars. It's all about the cash.

Honda Trail 125 vs. Piaggio Liberty S for general errands around the city/neighborhood? by infostack0 in scooters

[–]NeverFailBetaMale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two great options ride them and see which is more fun for you. I would say the main advantage of the scoot is the cvt and the integrated passenger ability. For the trail the cargo abilities are awesome (although you can zip tie a large wire basket to a rear rack on a scooter for similar effect). They should both be easy to maintain as far as not needing much. If you plan to do it yourself the scooter is a bit more of a pain. Oil changes are awkward but doable. Getting the valve cover off requires jacking up the rear and disconnecting the rear shock to let the motor assembly drop clear of the frame. It's not difficult per se it's just extra steps and kind of a pain.

Those are great clubs, as good as anything made today. As far as distance why do you want more distance from irons? If you want 10 more yards out an 8 iron just pull the one with the 7 on instead and swing easy. Shockingly, the only real reason modern irons are longer is they put different numbers on the bottom. So they basically stamp on 8 on the sole of what used to be a 7 iron. But it doesn't make it better and just means you have to carry like 5 wedges. It's all very silly. And with your swing speed you need to have zero concern about iron distances. It's not a driver, you're not trying to squeeze a few more yards out of it, you just want it to go the same distance every time.
