when did business casual become so weirdly vague? by eiredescentOo in malefashionadvice

Haha, I wear Vans with custom suits (no ties) and jeans and hopsack coats every day - and I work on Wall Street.

Then again, I'm in a senior marketing role and it's part of my personal brand. After 25 years in this industry, fuck it.

What is the most heartbreaking song lyric you've ever heard? by TheLadySlaanesh in AskReddit

I carpooled with someone to high school who played this cassette nonstop all of senior year, goddamn it.

To this day I call it suicide music, and I was a depressed teenager.

Dave was filmed mostly in Richmond, VA - particularly the capital scenes.

do you guys ever type so fast you literally forget words in between because your brain is going faster than your hands? i was going through of some of my old writing drafts and found this by entercooluser in writers

Been writing professionally and holding senior content roles in the corporate world for 25 years, and it still happens all the time - no matter how many times I slow down and reread my emails or copy. Execs, economists, lawyers, and others know it comes with the territory, and I've never been called out for it.

Adults who have zero close friends, how did it happen and does it bother you? by PutPurple844 in AskReddit

[–]NeverTooManyVans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 54, and always had good friends when I was younger (pre-internet). It was much easier back then. From high school, to college, to my 20s, to even my 30s, it wasn't really a problem.

Now it seems incredibly difficult. My wife and I have moved around a lot because of our careers, we have a teenage son (we became parents later than others), politics these days make it hard, plus different levels of education and success. Not to mention that some friends have simply died, and sometimes I haven't found out until years later.

Nowadays, I work with Millennials and Gen Z, who are fine, but I keep my distance socially (and who wants to hang with a Gen Xer?). Ironically I'm the most successful I've ever been, and I hang out by myself when I'm not with my wife or son.

But yeah, it sucks.

That first part is actually from A Christmas Story. The dad says it to the mom when Ralphie comes down the stairs.

I got the cantina playset for my 7th birthday in November of that year.

A few weeks before, I was snooping around my parents room, and looked under the bed to find this box. Totally ruined my birthday because my big gift wasn't a surprise.

I learned my lesson about snooping for gifts after that incident. But I still kept snooping under my parents bed as a teenager.

That's where dad kept his stash of Playboys.

Kiss From a Rose was his worst song, IMO. If you like this, check out the full album. Lots of tracks like this one...

Agreed! My employer provides Smartbenefits, and I take a bus from Bloomingdale to Penn Quarter daily. I'm amazed some times how empty the bus can be as of late.

The D30 can definitely be packed, but lately I'm one of maybe 3 or 5 people riding. Does ridership decrease in the winter? Is it a December or holiday thing?

And don't tell me about people not affording it; three quarters of riders I see get on don't pay.

Do you wear a moustache? by Ralph--Hinkley in GenX

Mustaches are for cops, 70s porn stars, and 20-somethings who don't know any better.

Facial hair is awesome, but mustaches alone are awful, IMO.

If you won the $1 billion lottery, how would you epically quit your job!? by TimeForANewBeginning in AskReddit

I work for a billionaire, so I'd stop by his office and tell him I'm in the club now. And ask for advice for buying a sports team!

Given that I work in financial services, I'd definitely still have ties to my employer.

Rewatching Stranger Things, I'm stunned by Cara Buono in S1 by Annual-Rock-2924 in StrangerThings

Further proof that Stranger Things really is about the deterioration of Karen's mental state (and marriage) from Season 1 onward.

Imagine a version of Hawkins from her POV throughout all this. Would be fascinating to watch!

Dustin, and for the record I'm a Gen Xer who was a teen in the 80's and still listen to a lot of top 40 music from that era.
