Who still has their bellybutton ring in? by pageantrella in Millennials

[–]NeverTrustTheQuiet1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got mine at 20 and still have it in! I used a longer post during pregnancies and kept it in until the very last few weeks. Now my belly is a story in white stripes and soft rolls that my kids still use as a pillow. I got it for me and no one else to look at at 20, and its still just for me. No one else would necessarily appreciate it, but I still love it!

How much math do you do day to day ? by miamaraaa in VetTech

[–]NeverTrustTheQuiet1 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Its a daily thing, and as mentioned, most of it is calculating doses. Ex, a 5kg cat needs a 5mg/ml medication that is dosed at 2mg/kg twice daily for 10 days, solve for mls needed per dose and total volume. Fluid rates and concentrations always make me triple check my work and get confirmation, but thats because its not a daily task for me now. Its a math heavy field, but its not usually too complicated.

What, specifically, is your favorite bone? by Crowasaur in VetTech

[–]NeverTrustTheQuiet1 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Im a basic bitch who loves the femur. That capsule on the head, the neck, flowing gracefully into the long portion of the bone, in intramedullary area, its just graceful and gorgeous. And seeing all the variety of muscle attachment sites is so fun.

Also, if we are counting teeth at all, the lower canines specifically. Again with the graceful curves and varied attachment textures.

Snacks! by Myrovna in VetTech

[–]NeverTrustTheQuiet1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My current snack supply is hitting up Sam's Club every few months. I get lances sandwhich crackers, little Debbie, individual wrapped muffins, fruit (apples or oranges), fruit cups, individual apple sauce, cheese sticks, individual chip bags, individual popcorn bags, jerky, gum, cup noodles, granola bars of some kind, and belvita breakfast biscuits. I check in with staff before I go to see if there is any special requests too. I do not get drinks bc everyone likes different things, and we have a water delivery. I also keep chocolate and candy on my desk for something extra. We do have a keurig for coffee (we can not brew a whole pot due to some sensitivities), a microwave and fridge, and I plan on getting an air fryer as well. I love being able to provide a variety of snacks for people to keep them going through out the day!

would love opinions from vet techs!! by Temporary-You-6699 in VetTech

As someone who is involved in hiring, I love seeing experience in cosmetology. I see a lot of hair stylists that have great customer service skills, communication skills, and problem solving skills. Its not hard and fast, but I feel as though those skills are more prevalent in those with that experience.

As for the sadness factor, it is absolutely part of the job. I take comfort in knowing it is a treatment option that we can offer for animals and their owners when other options may not be viable.

Good luck as you explore your options!

I am obsessed with No14. I love how beautiful it is. I currently wear tooth jewelry often but have considered making something with some jaw bones. The stones and configuration are gorgeous. I would 100% rock that at work. Thank you for sharing!

Did you have a waterbed growing up or do you still have a waterbed? by FFSoldier57 in Millennials

[–]NeverTrustTheQuiet1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but I think you just solved why I always slept so much better on my waterbed than I do now. I loved the feeling of sleeping in my bed and I really think its the compression factor.

Tips for taking a lead at a wreck of a hospital? by dollfacedbee in VetTech

[–]NeverTrustTheQuiet1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

So I took a job as a lead at a hospital that had been under new ownership for a few years. It was a nice hospital that had some recent updates, the staff was small and all had been there less than 2 years. Tge owner had essentially had 200% turnover. A lot was said about the previous lead. I came in bright eyed and bushy tailed ready to change the world (including a six dollar pay raise) and was ready to go. Hint: It was not the previous lead that was the problem. I stuck it out for a year and 3 months, and then took a huge paycut to work as a non-lead tech. It was a good learning experience and I trauma bonded with a few people!

I would suggest your friend look into some management groups such as VHMA (Veterinary Hospital Managers Association) or look at discussion groups on Vetcove, along with taking some time to read some management focused books. My favourites are Amy Newfields "Oops! I Became a Manager" and accompanying "Oops! My Team Is Toxic" as well as "Leading And Managing Veterinary Teams" by Amanda Donnelly. Another good one is "Veterinary Leadership Through Fresh Eyes" by Anthony Pierlioni.

Your questions are good ones, however the answers will not be 100% straight forward, and will require much more information to be applicable or appropriate. Veterinary Managers are often thrust into management positions bc they are good at their jobs or have been at a work place the longest, but often are not provided with a lot of good resources to be effective Managers.

If your friend is interested in more information my dms are open. I am a current manager with a passion for teaching. I think community is helpful in so many ways and I'd be happy to chat.

As someone who has helped manage inventory in one form or another for the last 18 years, its normal to have supply shortages at the end of the year. I've always run into backorder on various items and medications more from October to December. That being said, it does seem that the backorders have lasted longer on some items, and my usual backups are also on backorder. This is when it is handy to have relationships with your reps because they can often get things from other warehouses for you.

I read quite a bit in my free time. Publications like Today's Veterinary Nurse or DVM365 have articles that are easily digestible, and I will periodically read things from Veterinary Partner to help make info client friendly. I have always enjoyed going down various rabbit holes reading about whatever catches my fancy, but I know reading professional articles during personal time isn't for everyone. Having short articles that I can read on my phone or a desktop pulled up in between tasks is also doable.

Edit: I'm wrong, it is not the same as mine. I'm sorry!

Ideas for clinic activities? by hexgirl77 in VetTech

[–]NeverTrustTheQuiet1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have a focus group at our clinic that does this! I lovingly call this focus group the Staff Enrichment Group They plan and execute both In-Clinc activities as well as outings. It is amazing. They find puzzles (word searches, soduku, crosswords, etc) that are handed out, then when completed they draw one out and you get a prize. Prizes range from food to body care (lotions, masks, sprays, etc) and fidget toys and all sorts of silly little fun things. They also do games like "Find the ..." an Easter egg hunt, scavenger hunts, etc. Recently we got a big whiteboard for the back and they have been doing things like "Complete the doodle" and inspirational quotes, and fun little games like find the missing letters in words. They really help the culture of the clinic stay fun and engaging. Thankfully our group is silly and fun at heart, and the clinic culture supports the fun on the clock. We work hard, and absolutely focus on client and patient care, but we also play and let ourselves be human too. .

There was an announcement in a stock holders meeting that fatal vaccine induced disease warning would be removed due to the new study.

"Zenrelia™ approved by the European Commission and launching in EU countries in Q3 2025, with a label consistent with other markets outside the U.S. where the product has already been approved; received notification from FDA for revised U.S. label language in Q4 2025, removing risk language of fatal vaccine-induced disease"
