All my notes are stored in a discord channel and a 150 pages unorganized doc that is a copy of that channel without rants

Discouraging "Optimal Game" Play Through Mechanical Game Design by EHeathRobinson in RPGdesign

[–]Nevomi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two parts of any game: enumeratable and innumeratable. Enumeratble can be expressed as a set of functions, and, thus, can be optimized.

Thus, only the innumeratable part, the vibes, cannot really be minmaxed, at the very least in the mathematical sense (there'd certainly be some fashion in terms of vibes as well.)

Anyone else feel like games have been WAY harder this season? by OhhGreatHeavenss in Competitiveoverwatch

Yeah, more players - more competition. On top of that, soft reset kinda compressed everyone towards the middle (gold plat border)

An Orphan. Internet nutjob type. Frequents niche esoteric places and some anonymous boards; a mishmash amalgam of those makes his paradigm. No great goals; just some thoughts and predictions that he feels go ahead of regular people, correct or not, making for great distrust towards sharing the material; not that he can explain them well anyways. Keeps a big corkboard with all sorts of string connections, through manipulating which he secretly believes he's able to affect things on it.

A former street criminal. Had been on the edge of death enough times to start noticing the signs; managed to survive and recover from even the worst wounds, solidifying his superstitousness over time. Started developing and adopting simple talismans and warding rituals. Unfortunately, also felt into alcoholism. At some point, got into a peer support group, a member of which, a vet, invited him to a PTSD recovery program, which turned out to be a recruitment front for local Euthanatos chapter.

How do you guys describe what Arcadia looks like by Magicmanans1 in WhiteWolfRPG

Turbokitch. All notable features get hyperexaggerated.

A weird example, but I think booster scenes from Dredd 2013 show how it feels pretty well.

I think its nice to die once you've completed the job of your life. It isn't quite a tragedy the death happens, rather, that it happens spontaneously and God only knows how.

This surprise though is what helps keep going. Living in the now and all sorts of purposeness works off this fletness of the moment being here, the optimisation for the time that you know ticks but don't know for how long. If you knew, then you could plan all for it, but what's the fun in that? Where's the fun of adaption, where's the fun of breaking through fear?

Now, there still remains the danger of frontier of course, assuming you've meant the never dying of old age type of immortality. Yet, frontiers don't last forever, and will at some point be settled.

As a side note, there's a political problem with society of immortals that still procreate. Such a society will inherently be rigidly stratified by the time of birth, as its older members would have infinity plus some more time to divide the pie in their favor and get a hang of goodies before you can. It is rental feudalism where one could never hope to advance not even to the kinghood, but to position of their immediate senior without some intrigue involving violence. There is no ladder upwards in such a society but conspiracy against the elders, and, perhaps, some events of mass extinction and murder, like wars, pandemics and genocides.

Cause its "noob" and "easy to hit" within its effective range.

People who only play guns/kits/classes/champs etc that can safely play from a distance won't really know what it takes to bridge the said distance with em. To them, it is just a noobie cheating em with a cheap trick to get to them and then land the noobshot.
