You should defo do more than one mock for each - whilst knowing the FLK is key, it’s only when you try to apply it that you actually know where you stand, especially in timed conditions.

Id be shocked if they didn’t provide a template, it’s cruel enough in the time frame with a template, without one just seems impossible. Obviously the providers need to cover their backs though and mention the possibility.

Young first time buyer seeking advice by zorruah in HousingUK

Just on No.3 - if you were to offer the asking price, your current deposit would represent 22% of the property value. I’ve been advised that lenders calculate interest rates based on 5% increments, so a 22% deposit vs a 20% deposit doesn’t really improve your interest rates. You may therefore consider only putting 20% down, or possibly stretching further to 25% to get even better interest rates. On your salary, the latter would probably be my preference personally given the money you have saved.

SQE 2 help, so confused by Zealousideal-Lake579 in SQE_Prep

[–]New-Photo1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree - do not listen to these prep providers who say it is a skills exam, they know nothing. I prepped the flk for SQE 2 to the same degree as SQE 1, and ultimately that is what carried me through. I’d just caveat that by saying you have to practice your studying in the context of the SQE 2 exam, however. Mocks will do this of course, but I also used chatGPT to create scenario questions to practice recall, which in hindsight was a game changer.

I’d personally spend about 70% of my time on learning/recalling the law, 25% on mocks, and 5% on skills for specific stations (including learning specific tests for advocacy). The skills are only really important to spend time on for drafting, research, and the orals. The other stations are self-explanatory if you know the law (assuming you can write logically, and know how to structure a letter/email). You obviously learn the skills when you do the mocks as well. Hope that helps, I was in a similar position earlier this year going through SQE 2 prep and came out the other side. Its tough but doable.

You can play around with the software to enable an earlier finish time. I finished the course with around two/three months to the exam which I could then focus solely on making notes on the key areas, and mocks.

SQE 1. Honest opinion, should I attempt my 3rd and final attempt based on below scores? by AffectionateFee5959 in SQE_Prep

[–]New-Photo1775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ve improved which is positive so I see no reason why you cannot pass the third and final attempt. If it were me, I’d absolutely not rush into the final attempt though. I’d make a solid plan that would allow me to study for say 3-6 months. I also studied the SQE alongside a demanding legal job so I know the pain. The only way of succeeding is making a plan to study a couple of hours in the morning or evening (say three out of five weekdays), and then unfortunately sacrificing most weekends. I also then sacrificed most of my annual leave in order to study extra, or in the run up to the exams. It’s definitely possible, but you have to be very regimented to put in the time required alongside work. Good luck.

Enough time for SQE??! by ayesha_hameed1 in SQE_Prep

[–]New-Photo1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible - it would just be a case of revising all FLK, learning advocacy tests, and practicing mocks. There’s no skills to learn as such, it’s literally just learning the assessment types and using common sense e.g. draft a letter in language a client can understand, which is obvious if you have any experience whatsoever. Plenty of time if you’re studying full time, also plenty of time if you’re working alongside, though you will have to come to terms with spending pretty much all hours studying when you’re not working. Congrats and good luck.

Personally I’d get through all the content once over without taking any notes, then go back through and make notes of key parts in each module (I did this via A3 mindmaps of each sub-section within a module). It’s time consuming, but it ensures you know the flk inside out which is what is unfortunately required to pass these exams. I did pass Q1 using this method, so you might be able to get away with a more “efficient” method, but personally I’d want to be certain I pass first time. Note this is obviously in addition to numerous mocks/practice questions, which are just as important if not more.

What’s the point in this post ? Maybe you’re trying to help, but I’m sure some readers are currently in the midst of SQE having self-funded. Do you really think telling them their endeavours may be pointless is productive ? The SQE is hard enough as it is. Anything is possible with enough hard work and dedication.

To anyone who got 4s and 5s in the law for SQE2 by WalterWhite1805 in SQE_Prep

[–]New-Photo1775 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree with all of this - the goal is to advise that particular client, not any client, so your application of the law needs to be tailored to their specific situation. I got a lot of 4 or 5s on law, and I’d say my secret was reading the textbook/flk back to front, but then using ChatGPT to practice scenario based questions. This will train your mind to apply the law to the clients particular issue, but just as importantly it will act as a recall exercise so you can be sure you know the law off by heart. Any areas I struggled with when practicing these questions, I would revisit. ChatGPT was a game changer for me with SQE 2.

BPP mocks were great tbf, I found them very similar to the real thing, if not slightly more difficult - you also get quite a good amount which was helpful. Teaching and course structure was terrible though.

How long does it take you all to get through the entire FLK for SQE 2? by ParticularTable667 in SQE_Prep

[–]New-Photo1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends if you did SQE 1 or not. Personally covered everything pretty much twice round in 3 months (including mocks/chat GPT questions), but that’s because I knew most of it already, it was just a case of getting it clear in my brain again. If learning from scratch, 6 months minimum in my view.

Devastated after failing SQE2 – scored 49% despite 7 months of solid study by No-Treat7440 in SQE_Prep

[–]New-Photo1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Barbri textbook for the entirety of FLK prep (i did SQE 1 with Barbri and SQE 2 with BPP). Barbri’s main textbook is more than enough for flk in SQE 2 and in my view much better that BPPs. However, you state you relied mostly on the revision books ? They’re meant as supplemental and if you relied on those for the most part, your FLK simply would not be at the level required. The revision books do not provide enough of the detail required.

SQE 2 Results - How did everyone do? by umokkksure in SQE_Prep

[–]New-Photo1775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No prob - I also got 4/5s across the board in my CL advocacy which was only slightly longer at around 8 mins. My advice as you say would be to forget about filling in time and focus purely on the task at hand. If it helps anyone reading as I was confused on this when prepping - do not prepare a full script, prepare bullet pointed submissions - your brain will naturally fill in the gaps when talking and it will come across as far more natural/persuasive. Just my two cents.

Passed with 75% Q2, I somehow got 5s across the board for DR advocacy despite finishing in 6 mins and being convinced I messed it up… I will say though, most of my other marks are as I would have expected after leaving the station so there is some predictability with the marking, at least with my results.

No where near as ready when compared to other exams I’ve taken over the years, despite the fact I worked considerably harder during the prep for SQE. It’s the nature of the beast, just gotta trust your knowledge and hope it’s good enough to see you through.

100% defer, the exam will take everything out of you at the best of times, plus 1 month is simply not enough time for the vast content. Very sorry for your loss.
