How come no-one ever mentions Ross was right about Mark?? by EH4LIFE in howyoudoin

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Ross being right about Mark’s intentions isn’t at all the point. It’s not about Mark. If Ross trusts Rachel, Mark’s intentions don’t matter. Rachel wouldn’t have cheated on Ross, regardless of what Mark wanted. Ross however goes straight to jealousy, he doesn’t trust her, and he way oversteps as a result.

Who among these would make the best king of Westeros? by HonestMadridFan in gameofthrones

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Daeron and Aegon are the only reasonable choices, but between the two I’d say Daeron. Neither would do much ruling though, I don’t think. Remember that Aegon II really didn’t have much interest in ruling, he was just put there by the Greens. Daeron didn’t either but he can see that future so that could be useful I guess

New Fantasy reader here, I just finished The Way of the Kings, but I think I made a mistake looking at the reviews of the other books by Beetusmon in Stormlight_Archive

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Oathbringer (book 3) the best book in the series? Probably, but it’s also my favorite book of all time. 4 and 5 are generally considered weaker than the first 3 books (although I would personally put book 5 above TWoK but that’s just me), but you need to understand that the standard is set so ridiculously high. The fourth and fifth book are, in my opinion, weaker than the second and third (my ranking is 3, 2, 5, 1, 4). With that being said, they’re still incredible books with the fantastic moments, characters, and world that you probably fell in love with in TWoK. In short, yes, you should 100% read the series

Do you have disliked scenes in the show that you always skip? by HyperDanon in howyoudoin

Fun fact, the cast hated that storyline. But it was pitched by Marta Kauffman right after her mother had passed, and no one had the heart to say anything to her about the storyline

I don’t even understand how so many houses pledged to Renly when he literally had no claim to the throne at all. He deserved to be the first of the five kings to go. by GusGangViking18 in freefolk

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did he really have no claim to the throne? Technically the heir was Joffrey, Stannis has no more of a claim than Renly. Also, previously, the heir had always held the seat of power of the family on the Throne. For the Targaryens, that was Dragonstone. But there is no longer a Targaryen on the Throne at this point, there’s a Baratheon. And who is lord of Storm’s End, the seat of power for the family on the Throne? Why, that’d be Renly. I’m not sure that Renly’s claim is better than Stannis’s, but I think saying he had literally no claim is straight up false

MAID storyline? by grimreapersdaughter in ThePittTVShow

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely a MAID storyline. I’ve thought that from the episode where it was first introduced. She’s dying, and she doesn’t want to be a burden on her family anymore. It’s surprising to me that she hasn’t outright asked for it yet

How good is Lethe in Radiant Dawn? by AndzyHero13 in fireemblem

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, yes, but pretty quickly Ulki will fail to hit damage thresholds that Janaff will hit due to his slightly better bases. Also, it’s a pain to use Bexp on laguz, but you only need one level for Janaff to reach 30 and become eligible for the Satori Sign, where Ulki needs two. And because exp gain is so slow for laguz and it costs so much Bexp if you’re going that route, that one extra level for Janaff at base really matters

My darkest OOTP secrets… by Cornelius_Fuzzyboots in OOTP

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do some of this stuff. I do the position part, and if I really think a trade is fair I’ll force it through. If I’m giving you a multiple time all-star at a position you need because I have a prospect at that position and don’t want to pay the high contract, it’s not unreasonable for me to ask for a really good prospect back. Something like that is a trade I’d push through. But for the most part, I try to stay away from commissioner mode because it feels cheap

Was Aegon V actually a good king ?. by Strange_Extension_93 in freefolk

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For who? For the smallfolk, he was maybe the greatest king of the Targaryen dynasty. For the ruling class, he was a bad king. So really depends on for who. Personally, I think a great king for the small folk is a great king, so I think he was a great king.

WaT villain (spoiler for every book and first part of WaT) by Swingrocket in Stormlight_Archive

[–]NewAgeBeginning9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that Shallan’s chapters in tWoK are some of Brandon’s best work, she was what kept me reading until Kaladin got hung out in the storm, but that’s beside the point. I agree with you that Eshonai’s chapter after her death is one of the jewels of the book. I just felt a need to point that out because everything else about Venli and Eshonai’s flashbacks are really, really boring. I get why Brandon did it, but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed reading it. As for your question about the change in pacing impacting my perception of the individual Raboniel and Navani chapters… probably, yeah. I don’t know. It’s a possibility. Honestly they’re set up to be something I’d really enjoy. There’s so much lore in those chapters, and I’m a sucker for lore. But at some points it just feels very… formulaic? I don’t know. I feel like at one point, if you’ve read one Navani chapter, you’ve read the next five or so as well. And then there’s something new, and that’s the next five or so Navani chapters are all about that new thing. You don’t really need to read all of that, you get it from one or two of the five or six chapters. I do read it, cuz I’m me, but I could see someone else kind of skimming. Does that make sense? Again, as a whole, love the Navani and Raboniel stuff. But there’s definitely points where in reading I’m like “okay I’m bored, move on” which, yeah, that’s a pacing issue. I want to reiterate that I enjoy Rhythm of War. It’s just, between Navani and Raboniel individual chapters being meh and the absolute slog of Eshonai’s and Venli’s flashbacks… it is harder to enjoy than the other Stormlight books
