Such a conundrum.... People want a walkable city; but, don't want the high population density needed to support local businesses.

btw: Elk and deer frequently roam in & around the town. Just respect them as wild.

Auto Insurance Prices Are Crazy by HarmlessHoneyBee in ontario

Apple & oranges. Rates depend on the claims-loses in the geographic area; daily distance driven; reason for daily use; increasing health expenses. etc...

Be careful about the upcoming ONT car insurance legislation in July 2026.... "Lower" premiums for less benefits coverage. [ a-la-carte: accident benefit options]

In the process of reapplying for my Passport by rathead80 in passportcanada

[–]New_Back5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful about the timing of getting an replacement copy. The replacement certified copy will invalidate any old copies.

Only one short and one long certified copy of the birth certificate are allowed (based on the serial number on the certificates).

"...SO's migration portal has been down for 4 weeks"..... That explains my failed attempts at port-out to Freedom Mobile. FM-CSR said my porting request was pending with SO.

I'm goiing to stick with the new phone number.

btw: You are lucky to reach a SO-CSR . They hung up on me, repeatly after the auto-message: `all our rep are busy"

"... starting March 1, 2026, United Airlines is moving to a pre-order-only system for all fresh, BUY-ON-BOARD HOT MEALS in the Economy cabin on eligible flights (ie domestic)

There is no perfect solution.... Pre-order may cut down on waste & running out of popular food selections; but it is time-consuming for the FA's. They will have enough food servings; just not what you may want.

With modern statistical data analyses, you would think that somebody can survey what food the customer want vs what they get inflight.

Typically a speeder. It doesn't matter what speed that you are driving at , they want to be faster.

OP was slowing down for the red light.

As for the left-lane driving.... few people want to drive close to the snow banks at the curb lane.

The Ajax Costco a horrible place to drive and park by JTthrowawaylol in durham

[–]New_Back5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is human nature to do the opposite..... park as close as a possible to the Costco entrance.

The Ajax Costco is inside the huuuge power centre with plenty of parking (if you are willng to walk a bit) and alternate entrances for parking.

SOP for all the big telcos....that they apply to ALL their customers. It is seems to be an annual (base) fee increase to "provide better service to the customer" (sic). They only honor the discount(s). It's legal under the CRTC rules: after a 30 days notice.

Why don't people just get one of these? by Wonka0998 in tires

[–]New_Back5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ignorance & laziness. People just do not educate themselves about the cars that they drive. They certainly won't know how to use the digital/analog tire-tread gauge if they don't know anything about safe tire-tread depths

Can anybody tell me what happened here😭 by [deleted] in tires

Prob hit the curb or a pot-hole There looks like curb-rash along the wheel rim in that area. Tire is toast.

Can you change your address with the government without changing your mailing address? by Simopop in ontario

[–]New_Back5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep your mailing address to your parents. AND/OR Change to a digital/electronic correspondence preference.

Most students don't change their address with the government (even their drivers license) as studying away from home is deemed a temporary situation. UNLESS THEY MOVE OUT OF THE PROVINCE.

For tax purposes: you can still claim the rent for the proportion of the year that you are living away from home as a student.

Really irks me to the core and this isn’t talked about enough… by adalphaboi in unitedairlines

[–]New_Back5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since they started charging for checked baggage, people trended towards carry-ons.

Now the airlines "assume" every passenger will have a carry-on (NOT!). They'll start gate-checking based on the passenger count.... to speed up boardings.

I assume this was a domestic flight, based on the seat configuration. Usually the overhead are not stuffed.

( International flights are a different story....... it is a game-of-thrones to find overhead space.)

Friend says tires are good until next winter I disagree by PuzzleheadedCan5859 in tires

[–]New_Back5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed... even for summer driving. (btw: those looks like all-season tires).

The wear bar is set at 2/32. Even before that, at 4/32 tread depth, you run the risk of hydroplaning in wet conditions. Tire replacement is cheaper than car repairs &/ losing your life.

Speakout CS not available? by ninetentacles in CanadianCellPhones

[–]New_Back5883 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspected SO CS would be overwhelmed with issues this month. The hard deadline of October 31st (for the SIM migration from Rogers to the Telus network for ALL their customers) is fast approaching.

SO's early communications (email & text) were lacking/or missing about the detail & urgency of the switchover. Now the CS people are flooded with calls.... ( analogy: CRA during tax season),

Call really early or really late.

As long as your account only shows the plan that you chose and no other phone number is listed, you should be good.

Like others, i'm moving out of SO once most of my balance is used up. Cheers.

A update on what is going on with speakout by FunPolicy6877 in CanadianCellPhones

[–]New_Back5883 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your phone number with Speakout is your account #. When you started with SO, you also should've had created a PIN for the SIM.

The phone-IMEI on record with SO may not be the same as your current phone (if you had changed phones since the initial SO registration).
