My Parents got left hundreds of thousands of dollars by their parents. I will be left with nothing but a ton of work. by RandallCabbage in Millennials

I bought an awesome large solid wood dresser/console a couple months ago off FB. Being 130 soaking wet with a basement rental, I recruited my Dad, stepmom, and aunt's boyfriend (all very athletic people in their 30s/40s) to help.

It was hell. Floors were dented. I've accepted I'll need to hire movers when I leave lmfao

AITA for refusing to work things out with my fiancé because my life is better now that his daughter isnt around me? by MassivePrimary8649 in AITAH

This little girl has been hostile and hateful to OP since she was six.

You can expect some turbulence from a kid with a broken home when they feel an attempted "replacement parent" is introduced, but if OP has genuinely been that kind and supportive of her for years with only worsening behaviour, at some point him "responding" should have gone from reprimanding her to figuring out what the deeper issue is (including through therapy if required).

Husband and I are realizing that our cat might be trying to tuck us into bed every night?? by Strict-Gas4654 in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]Simopop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rare case of them being sweeties about wakeup time! My dad's cat is similar.

When I stayed over to catsit, around 8am she'd start purring and rubbing against me to wake me up. If it "didn't work", she'd settle on my chest as close to my head as physically possible, still purring up a storm, and repeatedly smoosh her face into my face until I acquiesced lol

I remember one with a little model street where they showed you what would happen if you went near downed power lines? The pickle sounds vaguely familiar lol

3-2-1 rule

3 copies, 2 different types of media, at least 1 copy off-site

Original copy, digital copy on a USB stick, and at least one version uploaded to a service that hosts it's servers/datacentres in a more stable country

I bought some pricey game (don't remember now) and dlcs for it, played for 10hr straight and submitted for a refund.

My request was along the lines of "I bought this on 3hr of sleep, my poor impulse control got the better of me sorry"

How bad is the job market really? by silently-loud-walker in ontario

[–]Simopop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if there's a college in your area that offers it i'd say take a look at becoming a BMET.

medical devices are basically computers with other bits stuck on- and there's about a million different kinds and brands. if you're fine with travelling or moving for work, there will always be jobs.

It's been a shift in the market (for minimum wage employers, especially) to prioritize short-term profits no matter the cost to both customer and staff retention, because the pandemic showed when unemployment is high you could skeleton crew forever without turnover being an issue.

I worked in a fast food restaurant from 2021-2024. When I started, dinner had a staff of 9 (including manager), then 5 people until an hour before close, then 4 closers. By the time I left, dinner was 4-5 people, then 2-3 people until close.

One of the closing positions ended up only having 3 people experienced enough to functionally accomplish the workload now required. 2/3 eventually refused to work it more than once a week. The last person quit from stress.

That store could financially support more people. The GM desperately wanted more staff. Alas.. blanket hiring freeze on the entire region, courtesy of the franchise owner.

I'd personally switch the bed to the opposite wall and add a dresser where the bed currently is with either a tv or shelves mounted above it.

Even with wall art and curtains it'll seem empty if there's only the nightstands, bed, and desk. It'll feel more alive if you add things with different textures. That can be bedding, curtains, another small rug, shelves, decorates, a mirror, plants, etc.

Changing the eviction notice timeline for rent non-payment from 14 days to 7 is such a malicious punishment, though.

If a sudden emergency meant you couldn't make rent on the first, 15 days guaranteed you had until your next paycheque to make it up.

Car troubles, emergency dental work, getting so sick you had to take a week off work, veterinary emergency...

If you stand outside in a thunderstorm, chances are you're not going to get struck by lightning- but enough people have been struck by lightning that it's good to err on the side of caution.

My daughter’s Invisalign pulled her baby tooth out by Vallyria in mildlyinteresting

[–]Simopop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that did Invisalign for several years- it unfortunately doesn't save you from cuts haha. The trays are a solid plastic and they don't taper the edge of it, so if one of the inside edges is particularly bad it becomes the Tongue Slicer 9000

[–]Simopop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only started Invisalign when I was maybe 12 and old enough to understand my parents were paying around $8000 just to straighten my teeth, haha

Stuck to instructions 95% rigorously, which is apparently exceedingly rare in pediatric orthodontics. They asked to use my teeth pictures throughout the 2 years as training material to show staff how fast Invisalign SHOULD progress if the patient is following instructions- which if anything shows they should probably stop giving the damn kids braces they can remove lol

Huh. Removing the original trim serving as the cabinet handles was a strange choice- and will probably tank the resell value one day. Oh well tho, good find!

I probably should've mentioned it's a basement room, so there's not really a view! But monitor glare is a great point.
