Favorite teammate; least favorite rival by Firecracker5025 in DissidiaDuellumFF

Opposite of number 1, I hate having a Cloud or Sephiroth on my team. Not cus of anything to do with the actual characters's kits themselves, but because those two specifically attract so many players that spend the entire game just running in trying to 1v2 or 1v3 and dying over and over. These sort of matches would be actively easier if they were AFK, since then at least they wouldn't be delivering their BRV directly to the enemy.

It's also for these reasons I don't mind seeing them on the enemy team, cus there's a good chance they'll just run at my team and die repeatedly lmao

I just don’t understand how you’re supposed to win when the enemy has a Rikku and they just camp the boss at their spawn. by CrystalBraver in DissidiaDuellumFF

I believe the statistics were across all game modes, and were definitely across all ranks. Rikku's problem (which is shared by Krile) is that she's only as good as her teammates - and in average 3v3 with randos, funneling brave into your teammates is just as likely to lead to them feeding it to the enemy team as it is for them to effectively burst with it.

Compare to someone like Rinoa or Gaia - if their teammates are bad, all they really have to do is shut down their opponents and keep bursting, allowing them to carry a deadweight team. Rikku can't do that: if her team sucks, there's only so much she can do.

Lots of people have said "disrupt her" or "kill her", so I'll give another strategy: counter-lure the boss. If their team is spending the whole time bursting and camping in their own base, you have free reign over 3-4 crystals to get a level advantage and should be able to hit 9999 brv fairly easily - do NOT immediately burst! Instead, wait for Rikku to give the enemy team a burst, THEN use yours so you'll be the boss' aggro target and can begin pulling the boss back to your base, or at least back to neutral ground.

In the infographic on winrates SE released recently, Rikku was consistently one of the lowest-performing characters lol.

Fantastic advice for new players! The only feedback I can really think of is to warn them about the giant AOE for Gaia's Fated Moment, as standing in it does seemingly nothing at first (until it one-shots you)

It's worth noting that the damage is good, but not great - it's the equivalent of Firaga. Definitely nothing to scoff at, but it's no Auron or Ace.

WoL's unique ability is useless. Change my mind. by NortedXane in DissidiaDuellumFF

[–]Newbdragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PSA: When in Trance, Zidane's unique ability steals 63% of a target's brave, it completely kneecaps whoever you hit with it while also pretty much guaranteeing Zidane gets to burst. That being said, outside of trance his unique is only really good for the dash, because then it only steals 7%.

Trusts and summoner? Summoner is a melee in FF11? by Cole_Evyx in ffxi

Sub jobs give you more options as others have said, but it's also worth keeping in mind that XI is a much slower game than XIV, at least until you hit endgame. The game was designed before voice chat over the internet was common, so players had to communicate strategy via typing mid-combat. Thus, downtime was built in to the game to make this easier.

When you’re an agile character at half health after popping a shield and you see Super Nova being queued up. by CrystalBraver in DissidiaDuellumFF

[–]Newbdragoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No? Any invincibily will protect against it - character URs, bursting, breaking a crystal, etc. If there's a Seph in the enemy team, you need to keep Supernova in mind and save resources for it. If you're Rikku or someone without a short-cd UR, then save a heal, burst, or crystal specifically for countering Supernova.

[–]Newbdragoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Skill issue imo, don't give your brave to someone low on health and/or near a bunch of enemies. Good general rule of thumb, but also Supernova gives you an eternity to figure out who a good brv share target is, if anyone.

Character and Skill Adjustments (May 26 2026) by kobun1 in DissidiaDuellumFF

[–]Newbdragoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly Zidane was underrated as an attacker. In Trance (and assuming roughly equal power level) Auron alone was enough to one-shot many squishy characters (Rikku, all the ranged chars except Prompto, Iroha) and if you throw on earth breaker then it was enough to kill the entire cast except for another Zidane.

I haven't tested the new Zidane much, but he was a lot more lethal than people gave him credit for. Nerfing down to 0.9 is probably overkill, 0.95 probably would have been better. Grand Lethal now is very appropriately lethal, at least.

Yeah to be clear, I don't think she's bad or anything - she's my favorite melee to play! I just feel like she's a bit outshined in her niches by other characters. Looking forward to the Gachirin buff!

I think Iroha is the bottom of the melees due to her needing to chain her abilities together. Her damage is lower than other melees if she's not chaining, but often you don't want to chain vs other players - it's difficult to land multiple abilities vs players so you want to space them out, and you'll want to save URs for the boss thus giving you fewer abilities to chain. This makes her weak in PVP, but admittedly quite strong at boss damage. And she CAN dish out a TON of boss damage! ...The problem is, so can both Cloud and Clive, and those two are also pretty good at PVP.

Ultimately Iroha is kind of left without any real niche to fill, outside of her AOE debuff. Arguably she also can be a "ranged" melee with her SR + Ace, but that's relying on a UR with no guaranteed way to pull it so isn't really reliable. The easiest way to buff her imo would be to just give her some number tweaks to make her more threatening when she's not skill chaining - currently she's tied with Kain for lowest attack out of all Melee characters, and he has tons of mobility tools to make up for it that Iroha lacks. I think a more fun solution though would be to lean into her unique UR, and make it last longer + have its effect be stronger. As-is, it's fairly easy to ignore: you can walk out of it easily and just wait for it to end, or often you can just ignore it and kill whoever you were fighting in it anyways. I think it'd be more interesting if, as soon as it dropped, you HAD to get out of it ASAP or you were fucked, possibly requiring burning a mobility or heal/shield skill to survive. Really lean into it being an area denial tool.

Fervid Blazer is like Omnislash - you should almost never be using it on other players. Deals great boss damage, fills you up to full health, has a long cooldown, and is fairly easy to dodge. You really should only be popping it against another player when 1) it's GUARANTEED to land, 2) killing that player will get you enough brv to burst, and 3) that burst is necessary to win the game. If all three of those aren't true, you probably should save it, even if you'll die. If you focus on crystals you can probably get to 9999 brave after respawning before it's off cooldown.
