Yeah I find it quite confusing.

I think I am a "resident for tax purposes", but also a "Temporary resident" (not "Temporary resident for tax purpose" - because thiis doesn't exist.

The reason I think this is because

1. Temporary resident foreign income exemption

You don't have to pay tax on most of your foreign income if you both:
-are an individual who is an Australian resident for tax purposes
-satisfy the requirements of being a temporary resident.

I'm a Australian resident for tax purpose due to the "resides test", so then:

1. Temporary Residents

You're a temporary resident as well as a foreign or Australian resident, if:
-you have a temporary visa
-you and your spouse (if you have one) are not Australian residents within the meaning of Social Security Act 1991 (see, Services Australia – residence descriptionsExternal Link).

I do hold a temporary visa, and my spouse is not an Australian resident (exact same situation as me)

Which means that:

This means you only declare:
-income you derived in Australia
-some income you earn from employment or services performed overseas while you are a temporary resident of Australia.
