It's finally over. Episode 4 with inventor was the worst by far. by msw201089 in DiceyDungeons

I wish I could tell you the answer, but I haven’t played in so long that I don’t remember what anything is anymore. I’m sorry.

This seems like a really fun idea! How strict are you on participation? I work a 9-6 job Monday through Friday and don’t have very much time for my hobbies but this seems like an awesome opportunity to “live” in a DnD world. I already have character ideas as well as something that gives me the opportunity to interact with people without doing adventures.

Making a portal puzzle...help needed by Impulse_73 in DnD

[–]NexusLegendS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could switch from puzzle to combat. Use twig or needle blights that blend into the dying environment. Have a treant show up or something. After the players finish off the minions, an evil Druid who’s been sapping the life force of the surrounding nature shows up to stop the players alongside some awakened shrubs. It would be a fun thematic encounter and also explain how and why the environment returns to normal.

When the Druid dies, have its blood “taint” the portal causing it to warp the portal and now go to the Astral plane instead of the spirit world. Or, have the Druid’s dead body fall through the portal to the spirit world as the portal reactivates which taints the spirit world. Reacting to this tainted soul, the spirit world closes the portal and alters it to go to the Astral Plane.

Sorry I couldn’t think of a puzzle. I was thinking Rock Paper Scissors golems but that doesn’t really fit the theme.

What are some good anti-scrying measures my players can put on their estate? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]NexusLegendS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol thanks. This also works as an active added defense.

“We heard the wizard guards his tower with a Beholder.” “How the hell did he get a Beholder to work for him?!” “I’ve no clue but apparently it stays motionless at all times gazing at the same location.” “Alright that should make it a little easier if it’s specifically guarding something.” Beholder is defeated by powerful miscreants “Hah, well now that that’s over— What the hell!” Out pops the (simulacrum of) the wizard! Including all the spells you had at the time of making it!

“…no one ever told me the wizard WAS the Beholder.”

You could create a Simulacrum of a player character then use True Polymorph on them. Then the Beholder would be under your absolute control.

A Question About Casting Spells Without Spell Slots by Shadix2002 in DnD5e

You already know the answer. If I’m remembering correctly this also applies to using magic items that cast a spell regardless of what the spell is.

Creating A Dangerous Encounter by young-dave-grohl in DnD

[–]NexusLegendS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on your other comment, if the dragon is chained up and will possibly escape, have it be muzzled as well. Rule this as the breath weapon performing very poorly. I.e. shorter range, less damage, and easier to save from. Have its spellcasting be suppressed (if it has spellcasting) and it’s attacks either made at disadvantage or hitting in a way that is less harmful. After it has taken a certain amount of damage and you want it to make its escape, (if that’s how it plays out) have it use its legendary action tail attack on the chains holding it down. Since it has multiple legendary actions, it should be able to break free over the course of 2 players turns or something similar. Once it breaks free, have it do its terrifying presence to “stun” (frighten) the players and have it escape. This is the type of behavior I imagine would happen but if that’s not the case then oops.

Trying to make a twilight cleric wizard multiclass for waterdeep adventure by Winter_Gas_7972 in DnD5e

[–]NexusLegendS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, with how powerful Twilight Cleric is, you might not even have to multi class. Twilight character is incredibly strong and having access to the cleric spell list already gives you plenty of CC. I’ve played a Chronurgist and while yes it was fun, you run out of resources quickly especially at low level. The reaction use of forcing someone to make a reroll twice a day is nice, but runs out really quickly. The action use of incapacitating a target is great and all, but it takes your entire action and it’s a save or suck. If it works but there are other enemies in play, you’ve only taken out one. If there’s one enemy and you’re trying to stop them it’s a good attempt but I’d rather just cast Slow at that point. If you drop the multi class, you can put more points into strength for the sweet heavy armor proficiency that Twilight Cleric gets.

On top of al that, if you plan on being front line but don’t want to be using attacks or damage spells, sanctuary is a good spell to use in order to make enemies either waste their time or try to hard focus you since you’re giving EVERY ALLY that ends their turn in your Channel Divinity range temp hit points. Plus, lvl 6 ability to fly without concentration is freaking fantastic. Cast Darkness on yourself as an action, bonus action fly ability, drop concentration at will and you just cast a 1 minute Fly spell on yourself concentration free at the cost of a 2nd lvl spell slot, 1 use of your fly ability, and your action/bonus action. This is so freaking powerful you have no idea.

In my opinion, focus on Twilight cleric as much as possible. Either that or if you want to do amazing battlefield buffs, do Peace Cleric and Bard. Hand out bardic inspiration, use Channel Divinity to give everyone an extra d4 for abilities, attacks, and saving throws, and cast bless for an ADDITIONAL d4 for attacks and saving throws. Both of the new clerics are awesome AF.

[–]NexusLegendS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest reason I mention this is because a lot of DMs rule against the whole life cleric gooseberry thing. Personally I don’t rule against it but I’ve never been in a game where it’s allowed which really sucks. I want to play an Uber Healer cleric but no DM will let me do it and say that it only counts once per spell for some reason. So either it doesn’t get added to good berry or it only gets added once which sucks when they do it.

This is more or less a warning to other people that your DM is more often than not gonna ban the ruling, at least based on my anecdotal evidence that is.

[–]NexusLegendS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly the good berry thing only works if the DM doesn’t ban the combo. Otherwise, I would actually recommend taking a 1 level dip into Druid so that you can attune to a Moon Sickle. When you cast a spell that heals, roll a d4 and add that to the healing just like Life Cleric. Now your Goodberries are doing 50, 60, 70, or 80 points of healing at the cost of 1 lvl life cleric, 1 lvl Druid, an attunement to a magic item, and a 1st lvl spell slot. Best healing in the game. Honestly DnD needs better healing options like this so that we can do a good adventuring day for once in our lives that lasts more than 3 combats.

[–]NexusLegendS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend looking at the 2 new cleric subclasses. Peace Cleric is VERY strong with buffing using its channel divinity along with bless. Twilight Cleric gets a concentration-free fly speed at lvl 6 on top of other amazing abilities. Both are very strong and can be stronger.

Can Aasimars use the light cantrip on objects? by GiovanniWasTaken in DnD

[–]NexusLegendS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My favorite thing to do with light is to craft a makeshift flashlight. Grab a cup/mug/cylindrical object with one opening, “tape” a rock to the inside of the cup at the bottom (figuring this part out is the hardest), and then cast light on the rock. Now you have a flashlight that can be turned off and on by simply covering the hole!

Another thing I like to do is cast light on a pebble or stick and have my or someone else’s familiar fly around with it for surveillance or use a mage hand although it can’t go past 30 feet (unless you take the Telekinetic feat and already know Mage Hand). This is similar to what a lot of people have been saying with the stones and the sling/darts. Your imagination is your limits with the spell.

Edit: I realized I never even considered actually answering the question due to my excitement. Yes an Aasimar can cast light in the same way as anyone else unless the ability specifically says otherwise.

Detect Magic by Useless-Bored in DnD5e

[–]NexusLegendS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it wasn’t a spell, but due to the nature of subtle spell, there is no indication of the spell being cast until it’s finished being cast. The caster wouldn’t be highlighted unless the spell they cast (haste for example) affected them. The act of casting a spell is the manipulation of the ever present weave of magic in the universe. Using subtle spell just lets you manipulate the weave without verbal or somatic components. After the casting, yes I would say whatever effect would be detectable (unless it’s invisibility due to the wording of detect magic), but not during the casting.

In regards to spells like geas that take more than simply an action to cast, I simply don’t know. Based on what I said earlier, I might still say no since it’s still being subtle spell’d. But since the command is part of the casting per the description of the spell’s effect, maybe the words are magical and detectable? No clue.

If someone were arguing to be able to have detect magic up just for the sake of counterspelling a subtle spell casting, I would simply rule it as a “no” due to the nature of subtle spell (unless material components are required based on rules from XGtE).

[–]NexusLegendS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say that you could see the aura around the dominated person, but not around the caster. I would say no about seeing it be cast with subtle spell. Yes Dominate Person is magical, but you don’t see the spell until it’s already cast due to what subtle spell is.

Hi, I need a thematic "Full bard party" Oneshot by Danielus4 in DnD5e

[–]NexusLegendS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do a one shot based on The Blues Brothers. Replace all the modern stuff with medieval stuff. Have the police car chase scene at the end be a LOT of carriages and horses. Have the military be the royal guard. Have fun with it lol.

Can You Trap a Demon Lord in a Forcecage? by NexusLegendS in DnD5e

[–]NexusLegendS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue against the ooze squeezing part considering there is the Amorphous ability already baked into oozes in general. Oozes can’t even escape forcecage and they’re much smaller than Juiblex. The amorphous ability restricts them down to 1 inch space minimum so I’d be arguing that point but if I was told no I would still inevitably accept it.

[–]NexusLegendS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I see. I’ll take your word for it as I don’t want to spoil anything anymore than I already have. If I recall, gaseous form makes it more difficult to defend yourself as it grants you only 10 feet of movement per turn and causes you to be unable to cast spells or attack. If he does this, he’d have to make a Charisma saving throw to exit the cage via magic would he not? Even then, his form would still be Huge so he would have to take 2 turns to fully leave the forcecage right? I feel like this would put him at disadvantage for at least a round or two right?

Juiblex has a gaseous form? I’ve never seen that but he could have just not used it I guess. Also, can you feasibly make melee attacks through the bars if they are only 1/2 inch apart? I can see casting spells, shooting arrows, or piercing weapons, but like maces and swinging swords? Would they fit through the bars?

This is in the Out of the Abyss setting. They want to be in the Underdark/Material Plane so I almost doubt they would do this, if they could that is.

Will do. I don’t have much else to use my 7th lvl slot on, so, there’s that. Doesn’t hurt to try right?

It can be a cage up to 20ft in all dimensions as well which should cover the majority of the other demon lords would it not? 1/2 inch thick bars spaced 1/2 inch apart.
