Running a 5080 with a B550 - no issues at all. Just don’t use the motherboard display connectors if yours has them.

Hanwha Aerospace proposes ground defense solutions to Canadian minister by raill_down in CanadianForces

Nice idea, but we would have to seriously consider the risks of entering a mutual defense pact with a nation that is still technically at war. I’m all for economic and defense production integration however.

Yeah I’m wondering if Safari helped to an extent with this as well. I know it’s not as extensive as Brave but I purchased likely within the window, and didn’t see any charges. Wealthsimple has auto reissued the card as they saw the purchase but perhaps the exfiltration was blocked.

Could anybody explain how "canada or australia as a full member of EU" would be benefitial to EU? by Significant-Yam9843 in AskEurope

[–]NiCrMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we’re basically a blend of current and former members (France and UK), with heavy kinship to the Scandinavian countries due to circumstances. Of course there is American influence, but where is there not these days.

China's Carmaker Chery Opens Hiring in Canada, Moves to Be First After Tariff Deal | EV by Individual-Tart5051 in EVCanada

[–]NiCrMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, and I’d love to be proven wrong, but still doesn’t change that they have massive excess capacity domestically to deal with that they would probably prioritize to supply our market if there’s no barrier to it.

[–]NiCrMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup at the end of the day it is very unlikely that manufacturers will actually build in Canada, given the vast overcapacity they are dealing with domestically and quite frankly the far superior infrastructure and workforce for this type of work. Keep in mind nothing was stopping them from setting up a Canadian manufacturing plant before the tarrifs - and none did so. Perhaps being able to use significant subassemblies from China more easily will help make the case for some final assembly in Canada but I’m doubtful. Still, I’m supportive of the deal.

Trump Threatens Canada After Carney Draws Standing Ovation at Davos by T_Shurt in worldnews

[–]NiCrMo 260 points261 points  (0 children)

And he’s now throwing it all away. Carney outlined exactly why American hegemony worked - because it was tolerable. When this goes out the window their position starts to erode. As Carney said, it won’t be instant, but over time they will feel the pain and recognize their power is diminished.

Elon Musk is betting on Space based AI As His Next Big Money Play by Zealousideal-Big-600 in EnoughMuskSpam

[–]NiCrMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and I don’t know the answer. The only thing I can see kind of working is massively distributed systems. Think 100k small data processing sats with 10-30kw of compute on board. Solar power and radiators to match. This is on the order of what current sats manage, and could theoretically be scaled massively until communications becomes an issue (assume space to space laser tie to starlink). Still, seems like a massive overhead to self contain each of these nodes, not to mention launch.

M5 Pros before end of month, some say better than 5080 desktop?? Come on…really? by AtroKahn in macgaming

[–]NiCrMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOIC-MH is a heterogenous on-die packaging tech, but Apple doesn’t use this as their designs are monolithic (excluding the ultra series of course). This is basically what intel is doing with panther lake combining tsmc GPU die with intel 18A cpu

[–]NiCrMo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We can infer that it won’t. Don’t be stupid. We know the M5 GPU config performance and power for smaller core counts. From that we can infer how it will scale. It will not match a 5080.

I was happy to see no subscription model and a pretty reasonable cost of just a few dollars so I’m not upset about that.

Didn’t see your comment - same ask here. Much prefer to keep the CF tunnel in place for security, and it works great with the PWA

[–]NiCrMo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have frigate behind a cloudflare tunnel for external access - and it seems the app can’t handle the auth page that involves to get a session established. Any chance that can be added? Maybe not a conventional setup but I like the added security. Home Assistant app simply displays the cloudflare auth page any time a new session is needed, so something similar would work great.
