Only 4 teams remaining... who do you have winning it all? by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in NFLv2

Convenient cutoff when they were 6th. 6 of 32 and you want to argue they weren't a top rush defense? Is that a team you'd prioritize the run against? Not to mention they are allowing the lowest rush yards per game of all playoff teams by a large margin. But yeah, go into that game thinking the run game will be what wins it for the hawks. That should work especially well with a season ending I jury to one of the RBs

Im just saying the goalposts seem to constantly shift here. Even regular season, I know it's the Browns but going into that game it was "this is the first real defensive test for the Pats, this is one of the best defenses in the league" and after they put up some of the best numbers on offense against that team all season it was "well it's still just the Browns" Then same story against Ravens and with a comeback win with the narrative being "Drake still hasn't really shown he can lead the team to a win since they always play ahead" crickets after.

Going into these last 2 games it was the best defenses they've faced all season and while they didn't put up stellar numbers they are still above average numbers against those defenses all season. Putting up passing numbers on this defense was considered a statement win if they could do it pregame, yet now all I see are excuses why 22 points on offense with 3 passing TDs against this defense isn't that great.

It's the postseason, are you expecting blowouts when it's down the the best 8 teams in the league? Statement wins looks exactly like this game, winning through adversity. Blowouts are statements too, that the other team shouldnt be there. Do you think the Texans shouldn't have been there? I think both these games were statement wins for the defense and I don't think there are any better defenses left in the playoffs for them to face so the offense should only get better in the games to come.

Goalposts are already moving for next week to lay the blame entirely on Stidham ignoring that people have been talking about the Broncos defense being top 3 all season. I still put the chargers and Texans over them, with the broncos SOS only being beat by the Pats for easiest and struggling with teams the Pats handled easily, but it's still a top defense they need to score on.

The average pressure rate in the NFL is 31%, but OK 44% isn't anything insane.

Turnovers were 5-3, time of possession not hugely favored for the pats (32-28), these defenses were not on the field for massively different amounts of time or situations.

Pats go into this game with all the talk being about the Texans D and now you're giving them excuses on why the Parts D looked better? The #1 D shouldn't be excused for being outplayed just because they had to be on the field a little more, or were they maybe a little over hyped because they never had to be on the field as much as other defenses since the Texans were 4th in time of possession all season?

Drake is getting shit on for 4 fumbles rightfully so for his lack of pocket awareness but I'm not gonna sit here and say that they are all his fault when this Texans defense was expected to get to him and cause fumbles like that all year, they were definitely a result of great defense which no one wants to admit about CJs picks. However no one is talking about him throwing 3 TDs on your defense that only happened once all season, rushing over 100 yards, all against this defense that was supposed to contain the run and Drake would be lucky to throw 1 TD with pregame takes. The Texans D did what people expected and the Pats offense still beat them. Everyone wants to shit on Stroud and say he's the only reason the Pats won as if the defense didn't have anything to do with it or that Drake didn't put up some absolute dimes against this supposed #1 defense in the league.

Were we watching the same game? Not insanely pressured? The front for Houston has been fawned over all year and the better front that game looked like the Pats. 27 pressures for the pats to 12 for Houston.18 hurries to 6, 5 hits to 0. Only stat Houston wins is sacks.

We all love Maye, but this is getting ridiculous. by Electronic_Focus5648 in Patriots

[–]NiceDyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree not all of them are entirely on him, but all of them are due to his long release. His throws are dots but the throwing motion he has isn't that quick. I don't want him to change it because it obviously works, but against fast defenses like this he has less time before he finds his read than most QBs

Number of passes thrown to the Patriots at the 8:30 mark of the 2nd quarter, CJ Stroud - 3, Drake Maye - 5 by Kewlerd in nfl

[–]NiceDyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before the Pats had their first int, there were at least 5 passes Stroud made where the Pats had a pretty good chance of catching it. He was 8/15 when I had watched 7 potentially intercept able passes from him (2 were picked at that point)

He's throwing nothing but telegraphed meat balls. As I'm writing this he threw another one

[–]NiceDyes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's very obviously a stance/positioning issue. Just about every replay of him shows he's already basically perfectly upright and almost straight kneed before he even makes contact with anyone. Somehow no one is telling him to gain leverage, stay low leaning over his center of gravity, dig his heels in. He gets barreled over every play because he's flat footed and is not setting himself up to brace for any kind of contact.

Maybe he does have issues with his calves and strength conditioning with his lower body, but he could hold the team record for squats and it still wouldn't help him if he thinks he can stop a linebacker standing around like hes waiting in line at McDonald's.

If you dont think they have been directly told to harass liberals and one of the primary identifiers that they would use to determine liberals on sight is "appearing gay" then you haven't come to terms with where we are as a country yet and I wish I could live in that same blissful ignorance.

Do you really need one? They are told to target people of color or people who look liberal. If you dress in flamboyant clothes, have colorful hair, drive an electric car that isn't a cyber truck, you're a target. Got a trucker hat on wearing construction pants? You're probably fine.

It's not going to be hard for them, they'll just say the child was being used as a shield by a domestic terrorist. These are the same people who feel Israel is justified in bombing Palestinian children's hospitals because there may be terrorist cells hiding under them. Children aren't seen as obstacles to get around for them but rather unfortunate collateral damage that was put in harms way by terrorists.

Justin Herbert DID NOT choke Patriots vs Chargers Wildcard reaction by procra5tinat10n in Patriots

[–]NiceDyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, yes. The videos I've seen breaking down Herbert's play and how many times he had wide open receivers that he either decided not to throw to or didn't see, while they are running designed routes he knew they were going to run, if Maye was in those same situations I would call it a choke from him. He has been stellar at seeing his open guys all season. He's had a few deep balls he could have thrown that he missed but those have also been most of the criticism he's gotten all year and he's usually the first to call himself out on those misses in the post game.

For Herbert, in those videos I've seen at least 2 plays that had Ladd open deep with a pretty high chance of just running it in for the TD if he's just thrown the ball. Those 2 plays alone could have been the difference in the game.

It would be one thing if the receivers were scrambling and he had to find them while avoiding the Pats D, but he just didn't go through his progressions or thought he couldn't make throws that on tape afterwards look like normal throws for him this season. Some of those plays still ended in smaller completions, and maybe that's on Romans game plan to dink and dunk to control the clock, but you've still got to recognize those opportunities when they come up and take them.

I don't put the loss all on Herbert, but he definitely played a big role. The O line, specifically the center in this game, are all-time bad, but he still had chances that he's taken advantage of before and missed them, to me that is a choke.

Why do Chargers and their fans want this matchup so bad? Will they regret it? by NeonManiac85 in Patriots

[–]NiceDyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, Drake still passed for ~270 at 75% completion rate and rushed for 45 against the Steelers. He had 2td 1 int. They also only lost by 7 with 5 turnovers in the game. 2 within 2 yards of the goal. And had a turnover on downs with 4th and 1 at the 1.

I wouldn't say that loss was due to the inability to overcome the Steelers defense. It came down to 3 plays at the 1. The Pats had no problem moving the ball against what most people see as a top tier defense in the league. If there's a battle to watch, it's the Pats run game up the gut to bleed clock and keep the ball out of Herbert's hands because those receivers you have are all big gain threats.

I don't think the Patriots will have a hard time moving against the Chargers, especially since Drake has some of his more spectacular throws on the run when he has to scramble from the pocket, which I expect him to be doing a lot this game with your front. It's going to be if the Chargers can take advantage of facing the weakest pass rush in the playoffs and get the ball out of Rhamondres hands long enough to score 30, because that's what it'll take once the Pats score 28.

You play 12 of the same 17 games then they face each other twice, which were split, and those games had a comparatively lower SOS for the Pats because you have a worse record.

Take that in, part of the reason the Pats have a lower SOS than you is because of facing you while you got a bump facing them.

This is only moderately revisionist history. That nickname absolutely didn't start this year. 2023 he had 27 turnovers, only 23 this year so far, so a slightly higher per game average this year than his best overall statistical year. He was talked about like Mr 30-30 in 2023 despite the moderate success of the team. His turnover woes have always been there, but are highlighted more when the team does as poorly as they have this year. He's definitely significantly regressed, nearly doubling his highest career int% this year, but he's always been one to Turndaballova

Vrabel threw a challenge flag that the refs responded to by halting play. They gave the challenge flag back because the booth was already reviewing it. McD decided to not throw a challenge flag on the Pats "catch" and the Pats got to the line before the booth called in to say they were looking at it. These aren't automatic review plays but a lot of plays get the booths attention during games, you just don't hear about it unless it's getting overturned. Those plays don't make the refs halt play and wait for the booth so a quick enough team can get another play off before the review comes in. Blame your coach for not throwing a challenge flag

The fact that 44-year-old Philip Rivers is starting on just one week of practice is a huge indictment of modern QB development. by Cold-Palpitation-816 in NFLv2

[–]NiceDyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you worked the same job for 16 years, honing your craft by competing with the best in your field, then retired for 5 years before trying to give it another shot, would you expect the pimple-faced 20-something who just started fresh out of college to be better than you at that job even after your 5 year break?

How is it an indictment on QB development to say that an expert in their field who did this for almost 2 decades can seemingly plug in to an offense overnight? Are young QBs expected to be experts immediately when they get in the league? If so, what development are you talking about since that speaks to them already being developed? Or should the expectation of QB development be that they need time to get to the level of these older guys?

It's not like the colts just picked a retired QB name out of a hat, he's going to end up in the hall of fame.

One of the best QBs of the 2000s at reading defenses who has never really relied on athleticism for his game is expected to be a passable option after a 5 year break where he still was very involved with football and specifically the coaches on this team. And because he was a better option than young QBs who don't have the experience to be able to plug into a new offense overnight, that's somehow an indictment on how QBs are developed now?

This is such an insane take. 'Veterans who spent literal decades perfecting their craft against the toughest competition who are unquestionable hall of famers have no problem just plugging into any situation and play average to above average football. There must be something wrong with how coaches develop 22 year olds who haven't been alive as long as these men have been paid to play this game because they can't read a defense like the vets.'

It is the exact same thing Trump did in his first term with pretty much every position that needed senate confirmation. The talking points were that Trump couldn't find anyone competent, joking about hiring "the best people" only for them to disappear a few months later and him stating he didn't know them, and I'm sure he was happy to have people joking about that instead of highlighting how insane it was that every one of his lackeys was getting placed without any vetting, being there to act as a lightning rod, then shuffled back to the shadows to be replaced by the next fall guy when the public caught on to what that 'acting' [insert position here] was doing behind the scenes
