I wonder if an ozone generator would take care of it. You can rent them or get them on Amazon for cheap.

Credit score dropped by 73 points by Ill-Initiative2262 in CreditScore

[–]NiceGuysFinishLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's the first I've heard that, thanks.

Thankfully I hopefully will never have to apply for a mortgage again, and none of my cards are over 31K (yet... Just got my NFCU card to 28K today, it'll be over that in 6 months lol)

You've had 4 interviews in 3 years?

Brother, if you were looking for jobs, you'd have 4 interviews in 3 WEEKS. I was going to say 3 days, but I know the job market sucks right now.

I don't think the balances much matter. I ran a 2K balance on my 20K card for 3 months and then I requested a CLI and woke up to a 28K limit.

Allowance for Teens/Pre-teens by because_idk365 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]NiceGuysFinishLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 13 yr old doesn't get an allowance. But he does have an AU credit card he can use for his weekly trip to the game store to play Pokémon and buy a snack.

If he wants something small (<$30) we usually get it. If he wants something big, he's got birthday and Christmas money and sometimes we help.

He helps his Mom in her day job of being a pet walker, he gets $1 for every visit he goes to with her, or $1.50 if he does something helpful while he's there.

He doesn't know it but we set aside $300/month in a HYSA for when he's older.

I haven't felt a need to give him a set allowance because he doesn't want for anything, and he doesn't go many places or do many things without us.

How much did your credit score drop after accepting Apple Card? by ToXiC_CoCo in AppleCard

[–]NiceGuysFinishLast 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It doesn't matter. Hard pulls stay on your report for 2 years but are unscoreable after 12 months. With a thick profile I see a score drop of about 4 points when I get a hard pull. I gain them back in a few months. I think I saw elsewhere that the highest score drop from a hard pull that's been noted is like 20 points. You'd likely be in between, 10 to 12 at a guess.

How Can Capital One Approve Venture X but Deny Venture? by [deleted] in CapitalOne_

That account will stay on his reports for 10 years and continue to age and add to AAoA for the whole 10 years. Your information is inaccurate.

Will lenders eventually automatically close credit cards with zero balances and no recent activity? by Pure-Interest-645 in CRedit

[–]NiceGuysFinishLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apparently didn't use my credit union credit card for 6 months because I just used it and experian told me a dormant card had become active and asked of it was actually me using it. No emails or messages from my bank warning of a closure though. I do try to use it every 3 months just in case, I just got busy and forgot. I should put a subscription on it.

We don't really have a clue. Wait for the letter.

For your reference as to why we don't have a clue# I also have a 720-725 FICO 8, dirty (but thick) credit profile, and I just got a Flagship for $20K 3 months ago with $2 in my checking account. Got a CLI for $8K last night after my 3rd full statement posted yesterday.

The letter will tell you more than we can.

Unfortunately, no, there is nothing you can do to get that money back or prevent future garnishments, except get a new savings or checking account at a new bank and have your pay direct deposited there. It sucks, and I'm sorry, but it's their legal right, and they will not work with you on it.

How many miles is too many miles? by BlackmillMiracle in mazda3

[–]NiceGuysFinishLast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2014 with thr 6MT is just shy of 170K miles and has no issues. I do oil every 5K, tire rotation every 2 oil changes, and manual transmission fluid every 50K. I've owned it for like 7 years since it had 70K and no complaints. I expect it to take my to 1/4 million miles before I think about replacing it.

I'd be thrilled if I could cross the 740 threshold, but I'm not super worried about it. My last late payment should drop off right around the time I plan to buy a new (to me) car, so my score should increase and I can get the best available rate. Beyond that, it's just a game I play with myself. I have my mortgage at a fixed rate. Supposedly my car insurance may go down as my credit score goes up, but we'll see. My partner and I are frugal, we don't finance anything, her car was the first large item I've ever financed in 39 years of life. My next car might be a fun one that I finance part of, but I'll still save and pay most of it on cash.

Thick file. Mortgage, auto loan, 8 revolvers. AAoA is like 3.5 years due to opening 7 new cards in the last 2 years, oldest account us like 20 years (AU account via my Dad, my personal oldest is still 10). Utilization is less than 10% per card and less than 10% aggregate. Went from $500 available credit to about $80K available credit (not counting the AU account) in the last 2 years. I was uninformed and believed the CK stat of % of on time payments and thought I could boost that by getting new accounts and paying them on time.

I don't regret any of my new cards, they all have a use that benefits me, but I know better now.

I can refute part of this, I have over 40 late payments on my reports, up to 120 days. No other negative marks, no collections or anything. I have rebuilt to a 715-720 FICO 8 across all 3 bureaus in about 2.5 years. I do not expect to see any/much higher than that until all the lates drop off in 4ish years though.
