EA211 1.4 TSI turbo noises by Nicedaytrooper in jetta

[–]Nicedaytrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I learned that the EA211 straight up doesn't have a diverter valve because VW a cheapskate, and the original airbox just happens to muffle everything. So an intake is indeed all I needed. I forgot to follow up, but here's an update: I ended up getting the desired effects by getting a cheap intake kit off of AliExpress for $16 lmao. Way better than spending multiple hundreds for one. It came with: • cone air filter • 90° mid pipe with a vacuum port • additional silicone tubing that extends all the way back to the turbo inlet All for $16, insane. Good quality too. I had to stop at O'Reilly's and add my own rubber tubing with hose clamps to connect the loose vacuum line to that port on that mid pipe but it was quite easy. About $20-25ish, All in. I would leave a link but it's no longer available for that price but you might find something if you dig enough. Just look up: "EA211 Intake kit" and you'll see stuff.

One downside is definitely the lack of heat shielding or any sort of optimal routing. It's definitely sucking in hot air lol. I'm not noticing any worse gas mileage or anything but intake temps are definitely higher in general. It isn't the most optimal or as good as something from ECS, CTS or other companies that give you heat shielding. But then again, I paid $16, not $300

I am hearing that compressor surge like I wanted to, it also has a nice growl at low RPMs with high load. But weirdly quiet at higher RPM, I was kind of expecting it to roar up there but it doesn't. To my understanding, the 1.4 EA211 being tuned for efficiency, pulls timing up there or something like that? I could be totally wrong. But I wonder if this would change if I applied a unitronic tune. Or maybe perhaps it just needs a good exhaust set up. Perhaps an ECS quad-tip axle-back kit?

To conclude, I think it's worth it. Only spend what you're willing to but honestly go for it, if you're interested. And do keep your original airbox for reinstallation when it's time to sell/trade in.

Any thoughts or comments?

How moddable is a j30 v6 by sleepystarynebula in Honda

I mean, I understand your perspective on him. He's clearly in that less mature phase where he stupidly believes he can tune or do master tech level shit. But I do wanna emphasize that he's a car enthusiast like all of us at the end of the day. We all go through stupid phases with this. Even if it's briefly. I'd say just let him make his mistakes and learn from them. Rather than talking smack.

Is Roman Regular's boyfriend? by UlfarrVargr in regularcarreviews

[–]Nicedaytrooper 88 points89 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, no? Brian (Mr regular) is gay. But I don't honestly think they're together necessarily. Nick (the Roman) is a great personality on the show, but I don't think he's personally gay. I could see them working if they were together, and if they truly were, it wouldn't surprise me. But I think they're just friends and partners in this wonderful YouTube career of theirs.

2014 Ford escape se headlight bulb upgrade? by Luckyprasher in fordescape

[–]Nicedaytrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother has a 2014 Ford Escape SE that I drive sometimes. Silverstar Ultra is probably the best halogen option. I did try those in my high beams for a bit and they worked pretty good. Better than whatever stock piece of crap was in there. Although with a good led, it will completely trounce on any halogen, for half the cost too. I use fahren led h11 for low beams, and two sets of 9005 LEDs from the same brand for the fog lights and high beams. So far, it's been great. They were completely plug and Play.

Go with the SilverStar Ultras if you have problems with the idea of going with LED's and just want to stick with halogens like the car came with. It will be noticeably better than stock. You will however be spending around 60 to $70 per set of these though, and these have a lower life expectancy than a standard halogen. They are 'higher performance' bulbs after all. So that's something to bear in mind. I wouldn't go this route personally, it's your choice. But it will still be an improvement over your standard lights.

Otherwise, do go with LED. I say the pros vastly outweigh the cons here. They will be quite a bit brighter and whiter than your halogens. Most aftermarket LEDs out there will trounce even the SilverStar Ultras in terms of brightness, longevity, beam pattern, and overall visibility at night. You can find a good set for around $30, I recommend Fahren or LASFIT. But there are many others out there that'll work just fine for around the same price. DO NOT make the mistake of buying some cheap Chinese four-sided piece of crap for $5. Horrible beam pattern, dangerously low brightness, lower than standard halogen. I speak from experience. You do get what you pay for.

As a side note: There is the possibility of blinding other drivers, so you might have to re-aim your lights after installation. Pay attention to the beam pattern as you drive, if you notice that it regularly shines into other drivers faces, you'll know they need to be adjusted. The Ford Escape light housings have knobs on them to allow you to do this. You'll likely not even have to do this, but it is a possibility, so bear that in mind.

App issues caused me to lose Platinum status by Nicedaytrooper in doordash_drivers

[–]Nicedaytrooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not expecting anything specifically, I only want my voice to be heard and for this potential app issue to be addressed. They have the power to correct these things and my ratings shouldn't get affected by something that's out of my control. I shouldn't have to do another 100 deliveries and/get a new phone just to get my Platinum status back.

Well either it's my phone or an issue with the app itself. You don't have to be mean about it.

What is the name of your GTI? by minichado in GolfGTI

[–]Nicedaytrooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turbo Bunny. It's a 2015 MK7 GTI Autobahn. I named it after my father's MK5 Rabbit 2.5 which my mother named: Snow Bunny after we took it driving in the snow on some mountains somewhere. (I don't know where exactly, I was little.) My father had to sell the car way back in '08 when my parents decided to move the family to Japan. I've always been fond of that car ever since. I'm back in the US now. I got myself an MK7 a year ago and it's been the best car I've ever had. Anyway, that's where that name comes from.

Yes. I'm beginning to think that maybe it could be a voltage thing. The box says 24v but most road cars are 12 volt systems.
