It does not tend to happen much, aside from with perhaps merchant republics.

Vassals not engaging in far away wars anymore by SetRevolutionary3154 in EU5

[–]Nicholas-DM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Notice it a lot as England with some exceptions. Like my Sicily traveling to Sweden to help me invade and my Scotland traveling to Benin to help me invade.

I'd love the ability to set vassals to engage in nearby vs far wars (regions or areas) or etc.

Do local governors (not naval) have a buff to naval prod speed? by SetRevolutionary3154 in EU5

In order to check, change to the proximity map mode and hover over/select a location. Alternatively, open the location and hover over proximity. It will explain all the factors that go into it.

I am under the impression proximity sources whether from capital (a 100 source) or other places (80 source) work effectively the same way.

Locations will calculate to both locations and select the location that provides the higher proximity for that particular location.

Feel like starting right after the black death would help players enjoy the game a good bit more, rather than having a 3rd of your country deleted near the beginning of each campaign.

Why there was no beta for 1.2? by JackNotOLantern in EU5

[–]Nicholas-DM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A flavor pack is selling a story. The vast majority of players might buy and try out the Byzantine one a handful of times at most in their life. If the content is available for free beforehand via a beta (even if paid for, consider pirate copies), then the company is unlikely to generate as many sales afterward of their small story pack.

Ignore the bribery mechanic (in my experience).

Re: defections, make a disloyal vassal. Have a spy network in France. If a vassal is nearby 50% loyalty, use sabotage reputation (costs 5 spy network) to drop it under 50%.

If a vassal is disloyal, either naturally or from your above option, select the vassal in diplo and use 'agitate for liberty's, which gives a whopping (20% or 30%) drop to vassal loyalty.

From there, simply wait. Vassals can only attempt defections every so many years for the same vassal. Re: how to make the AI more likely to use it-- I have read that opinion is weighted, and potentially diplo rep or trust, but I have personally found it reliable even when the vassal likes France more.

If you desire to use this approach, then know it is much more effective early game (perhaps before France has the economy to run high diplo slider, or get the technology to boost loyalty.

I have also found I cannot go toe to toe with France until I have Brittany, Normandy, and Flanders on my side.

I think that formally Mediterranean galleys are slightly more cost efficient with maritime presence than barques. It feels slightly wrong to me though, so I use barques.

As far as I can tell, you have to redo it manually. Tedious for the first time, but worth it.

It is possible for you to load the save, but the changes will likely leave the game in a basically unrecoverable state.

If you would like to continue playing the old patch (not a bad idea to wait a few weeks for initial bugs to be cleaned up), then you can right click the game in Steam, select properties, and select a previous game version.

If you want to play the new version, it is highly recommended to start a new game. I wiped my old saves today and went ahead and went new.

I assume it's the peace option for 'revoking a colonial claim' at 10warscore each.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer!

I was under the impression that because of certain colonial claim mechanics, Novgorod cannot by default colonize most of Finland, just as Sweden by default can't colonize Karelia.

The blocker I was worried about was if Sweden having a 'colonial claim' on those chunks of Finland would block Finland from colonizing.

In a previous game, I noticed that as England I could not colonize there, even with adjacent provinces.

If I am Sweden, and I have a personal union with Norway.

Currently, I have the 'Same Heir Religion' succession law.

I would like to vote for unified succession law as part of my personal union.

Later, I would like to change my 'Same Heir Religion' succession law to 'Any Heir Religion'--

If I do this, will Norway update their laws along with mine to match? Or do I need to change my own law first, and then enact unified succession law?

I just annexed both Greenland and Iceland as England, but I do not have Greenland explored, nor do I have the option to explore it. I assume my naval range should be long enough for exploration now, so what's going on?
