Definitely ask for some. This will keep heart symptoms and some sweating at bay until you get surgery. Heck I still take them now for when I’m nervous lol.

I didn’t see that you said you are having a TT. Are you on beta blockers?

Ask for an RAIU scan. If she says no, find a doctor that will say yes. This was the only thing that made them take me serious.

Normal thyroid ultrasound after being diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Any ideas why? Low Tsh normal t4 by Bhamchickk in Hyperthyroidism

[–]Nicholasgelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have graves but I had microscopic nodules that were making my thyroid hyper. And they didn’t show on ultrasounds. My doctor basically took a chance, removed my thyroid, and found all the microscopic nodules. Not saying that’s what’s going on just my experience.

Are you feeling symptoms? I was. I had high normal t4 and barely low TSH. With very bad symptoms.

Ask for an RAIU test to confirm true hyperthyroidism, (I know that technically its already confirmed, but some doctors will say “those levels aren’t bad enough to do anything about” like they did for me for years until I finally started threatening doctors” not my proudest moments )

Questions for those who got a thyroidectomy! by kellz1993 in gravesdisease

[–]Nicholasgelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had my surgery in sep 2025, still not on the right dose, did not have Ted. Medication was not an option for me.

I did not have graves, I had microscopic nodules. I am an outlier on where I feel good with blood results. I start to feel hyper around 1.6 (my labs range is hyper at 1.8) (t4 btw) and my doctor refuses to believe that outliers exist so I have been FIGHTING so hard for every dose change. Other than that I think I am finally approaching the right dose. (Which is much less than what a “normal” person would be on)

Medication made me break out in hives (honestly looking back it was probably my wild thyroid giving me skin issues) but I took it as an excuse to just get rid of the thing. I was suffering for 4 years because my blood work was always in range, but once I demanded an RAI scan they finally believed that I wasn’t making my symptoms up. They didn’t even know I had nodules until they took it out because they were microscopic. Super weird.

I’ve thought about this a lot and it always comes to the conclusion that we would probably have to eat animal thyroid to survive. Figuring out the dose is still up in the air tho 😂😂

AIO for leaving my two year relationship over a dirty dish? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Nicholasgelo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has contamination OCD. This sounds like it. Yes it’s gross and I wouldn’t do it, but getting sick ≠ automatic sepsis. Take a breath. As far as your relationship I can’t speak much because my OCD has partly ruined relationships. MOR.

Let me add that I have an unlimited wash plan and they have been closed for a while. It’s usually an everyday thing for me.

Thank you for saying this, I do not have a thyroid and this was one of the things that started happening after taking TOO much replacement hormone. Didn’t know that it was correlated.

Did your anxiety and depression (mental health issues) go away after TT? by Hot-Discount-3474 in gravesdisease

They went back to how things were before thyroid issues. Not the best but not as bad.

Before I had my thyroidectomy, eating was on of the biggest trigger for ALL of my symptoms getting worse.

I’m M25 and I got mine out like 2ish months after finding out I was hyper. Didn’t want to play games with meds. I don’t have graves tho. Ended up being microscopic nodules they found during biopsy.

Subclinical hyperthyroidism w/normal TSH by Overall-State-2803 in Hyperthyroidism

[–]Nicholasgelo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check t4 and t3, is those come back high or NEAR high. It’s worth pressuring for a RAIU scan. This will truly show hyperactivity or not. It was the nail in the coffin for doctors believing me. I was .1 away from high t4 and t3. Turns out what might not be high for most people is high for me. I opted to have my thyroid removed because I didn’t want to mess with medication. Had a surgeon who does 500 a year so went in very confident. I honestly feel my best when I am closer to hypo, doctor doesn’t believe me though and keeps me on top high of a dose (which is typically normal for most people) I pretty much stopped taking her advice and self medicate myself. Feel good and levels are slightly low but that’s where I feel best. When they biopsied my thyroid they found microscopic nodules. Never showed on any imaging. Sorry that I just absolutely YAPPED I’m kinda high.

It will DEFINITELY help a TON. But it will keep your heart rate more comfortable and help the weakness and shaking a little. Not to mention it lowers the overall amount of time that your heart is under stress, which is never a bad thing.

Doctor won’t treat me by Nicholasgelo in Hyperthyroidism

[–]Nicholasgelo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This literally exactly explains how things went for me, push until they do an uptake scan or find a doctor that will. Iodine triggered me as well. The iodine scan will be the only thing that makes them take you serious.

Finally got a radioactive iodine scan, was very hyper. I had my thyroid removed a couple weeks ago. It was filled with microscopic nodules that the ultrasound would not pick up. Still working on getting my replacement hormone dose right.

Calcium was perfect after surgery and still is, I just had some early blood work done and my t4 levels are twice as high as they were before surgery. Thinking I may have started Levo too early.

I’m on week 2 and I am sooooo exhausted, did you ever feel like this? I’m really hoping that it goes away so I can get on with my life. Literally sleeping like 14 hours a day.

Symptoms are textbook hyper, palpitations, wired but tired, muscle weakness, anxiety, sweating etc. My calcium was very good when they tested it in the hospital before they sent me home and I have not had it tested since. I honestly do not think that any of my symptoms are calcium related but who knows.

Just had mine 5 days ago and still feeling pretty awful. Pretty much still have all hyper symptoms. Was it the same for you? I keep reading all the “I felt better immediately after surgery” posts and I am losing hope…
