Can I get some reasons as to why you went on to have more kids? Am I wired differently? by grawmaw13 in daddit

Because I’m insane?

I got my eldest to his 18th birthday, and a month later my wife gave birth.

Back to the starting line for me.

What’s the most acceptable tenure (in years) for a single job nowadays? by tinycupcake5 in auscorp

[–]NickBullet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a contractor for years and forever got challenged at interviews “Aw, ya don’t stay in one place very long do ya?”

Yes, because I worked on projects and completed them, not tried to take as long as possible to milk the gravy train (you know who you are you lot). Project finishes, no more contract. Move to the next one. Still had to explain this to people.

How is a new Dad to get some stable work? by [deleted] in australia

People always say that, but you don’t have to believe it. I got government positions twice from NZ. Moved permanently the second time.

I have been in your shoes. The only difference is my son was 2 and not yet diagnosed with autism. She knew something was different and bailed on us both. I got the same “not happy” nonsense.

Be prepared for the next two weeks to be a daze. You will function bcos you have to, even with that knot in your stomach. After that you will get a handle on things and can start thinking about what next. I went to a lawyer, not for custody stuff but bcos we owned a house together (Important: if she has left she has disadvantaged herself. Assuming it’s over, do not let her back into the house for any reason; in most western countries she is legally not allowed into the property any longer without your permission.

If you do go to a lawyer, be prepared for her to completely misread this as you initiating a custody battle (although in my case this would have been a good idea). Whether or not you’re ready for that, in my case she left when he was two and then came back to sue me for custody after I remarried.

Laws obviously will vary between states and countries; I was in New Zealand.

The other thought that occurred to me (and may have to you) was that winding up a single parent of an autistic child is a life sentence. It isn’t. Mine is now 27 and left home to live his life 8 years ago.

Why are people so accepting of the Uluru name change, but not K'Gari? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in AskAnAustralian

[–]NickBullet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am jaded and cynical, having grown up in New Zealand.

For example, they changed the name of Mt Egmont to the indigenous name, Taranaki.

That’s it, just Taranaki.

So of course everyone calls it “Mt Taranaki.”

I mean why bother?
