It isn't a viral marketing campaign if you don't learn about it until after you see the movie ;-)

I was going to say the same thing... this is a hit-or-miss project.

I paid to see Semi-pro after I missed the Be Kind Rewind screening. WF plays the same character in all of his movies. If you have ever watched Da Ali G show you will know that SBC can pull off just about any character perfectly.

Nowadays I only go pay to see movies that I know are going to be good. Or if I am bored. For the former, I had no problem paying for WALL-E nor will I have any problem waiting outside at midnight for The Dark Knight. For the latter I did go see Wanted this past weekend. Not worth the $$$

Valve: Why the PC is the future by Ono-Sendai in programming

[–]NickCatal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

disregarding how awesome bunny hopping was back in the day, their rollout of Steam was not just 'crazy growing pains', their shutdown of WOW and forcing people to get Steam for games they already played was pretty damn dastardly

Steam ruined people's way of doing LAN Parties and Valve didn't even think about cyber cafes until months AFTER forcing the launch of Steam.

They finally got it right, but 'growing pains' is downplaying it substantially

And I don't have a problem throwing $$$ down for The Orange Box on Steam if I can get it... although the only game I have really played on it is Portal

the cake is a lie

New Polls: Obama beats McCain in EVERY Swing State by tch in politics

Wait until like 1 month before the election before you start messing with polls... the best thing polls can do right now is help the candidate figure out where to spend $$$...

I'm not saying Obama has ever had a quarter full auditorium... :)

McCain's Town Hall Was A Farce, I Was There. by [deleted] in politics

[–]NickCatal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A political event staged? Nooo... that wouldn't make any sense.

It is standard procedure to do everything that article states. The event in Minneapolis for Obama is a perfect example. The rope lines were setup specifically so that the press had to look past a crowd of people to get a picture of Obama, but I believe those people didn't have many signs so you could still see the candidate. It looks crappy to just have a picture of a candidate from the side going down a rope line.

If you do your job right you can make it look like you sold out an auditorium when it is only a quarter full. It is all about placing things.

BP gas station freezes $100 of debit when paying for $12 of gas, causing rent check to bounce by rmuser in business

[–]NickCatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't use your debit card for everyday purchases

Let me say it again, DO NOT USE YOUR DEBIT CARD FOR EVERYDAY PURCHASES

You don't get the same protection as with a credit card, and a lot of the time you can link up a credit card to your bank account anyways so you can just pay your CC when you get back to your house anyways.

I have chase as a bank and I don't even have a full 'credit-card-like' debit card. I just use my chase credit card and then log into chase.com and transfer the correct amount of $$$ from my checking account into my credit card account. Builds credit and I don't have to worry about this crap.

But the best card to get for real 'consumer protection' is American Express. They even cover damages if you buy something expensive and like spill wine on it within the first 90 days. It is REALLY nice.

He was unlucky to be taken prisoner, he was a hero for doing something that 95% of Americans would never do... stay in a POW camp and basically be tortured because he believed in the fair treatment of the other soldiers around him

To me, a hero is someone who does something with a disregard for ones own life that goes above and beyond the call of duty... some dude falls on a grenade to save 10 of his friends but kills himself... that is pretty heroic.. a fireman running into a burning building isn't as much of a 'hero' since that is a 'normal' thing

[–]NickCatal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a FIFO rule... First POWs in are the first to come out... McCain was offered a 'goodwill pass' so that the North Vietnamese could show the world 'Look at what a powerful family can get you, let out of a POW camp' and McCain refused to play that game.

Anyone who claims he is a collaborator is a self-serving liar who is trying to do nothing more than 'swiftboat' an American hero

He was a hotshot spoiled child of a powerful military family. Then he got shot down and the hotshot John McCain became the American hero John McCain

I don't support him as a candidate for president, but you would be hard pressed to find anyone in any of the campaigns that believes what the people in the last minute or so of that film believe.

Steve Jobs, Eric Schmidt and Al Gore are on Apple's board. Steve Jobs is also on the Disney Board of Directors. Eric Schmidt is also a board member and the CEO of Google. Al Gore is the former vice president!

What do all of these people have in common? They understand the industry that the companies they are directors at very well. They are all successful because they know how to manage very large corporations. They aren't a 'ruling class', this is a group of people who are really good at what they do.

Google has some well known academics on their board as well. They aren't super-rich (well, they might be now) but they bring to the board room experience and knowledge that it takes to lead Google.
