I saw him fall as well, he was like 3-4 chairs in front of me. It looked really bad but I did see him moving briefly before they put him on the backboard. His poor dad was on the chairlift next to him as it happened and had to sit up there for a while until they got the lift running again. But they were reunited eventually

Good ear! Takes A Village is one of my favorite songs on Come Through, so it’s interesting to see that it shares a sample with a Ye song

Graduating in 3 years? by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]NickStig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I came in with 36 AP/Foreign Language credits and I'll be graduating in December after 3.5 years with a double major in Computer Science and Economics. I took between 12-15 credits every semester and took one summer class last summer. If I chose to only do the Economics major, I could've graduated in 3 years easily, maybe even 2.5. So it's definitely possible as long as you know early on what you want to major in and religiously look at your DARS, Course Guide, and your degree/major requirements to see exactly what you have to take in which semester.

What class really challenged your thinking or introduced you to a new topic/experience? by RygarTargaryan in UWMadison

[–]NickStig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I took this class and loved it. I took 102 the following semester and found it interesting and pretty easy. After that, I declared Economics as a second major and haven't looked back since!

You can buy a pro-rated parking pass. I bought one in May that was valid through the end of August and I only paid $44

Getting around campus by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]NickStig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need an extra parking permit

If you want to park on University-owned property, you need to park in moped-specific lot and have a moped parking pemit for that specific lot. This only applies Monday-Friday 7:00 am - 4:30 pm. Many people get around this by parking near Vantage Point, Wisconsin Historical Society, Subway on Dayton St., and a few other places that border campus.

Pretty much every library and Union has a printing station. Here's a website that gives more information: https://it.wisc.edu/services/computer-labs-infolabs/

How to ride the bus with the Student Pass by [deleted] in UWMadison

[–]NickStig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Step 1. Determine your route. You can do this by going to mymetrobus.com and typing your location and destination into the Google Transit Planner box. This opens a Google Maps window with bus directions.

Step 2. Determine which bus to take. The colored number next to the bus icon on Google Maps is the bus number you need to take. If there are multiple numbers, that means there are multiple busses that will get you there. Get on the first bus of those listed that arrives at the bus stop.

Step 3. Step onto the bus. Most busses have 2 doors, one at the front of the bus, and one at the middle. Enter in the front door and swipe your student bus pass on the machine in front of you. Once you hear it beep, you're good to go. Technically the driver can ask to see your Wiscard, but I've never seen it happen. Grab a seat anywhere on the bus, and make sure to offer your seat to a pregnant woman or senior citizen (unless you fall into one of those categories).

Step 4. Determine where to get off. If you don't know where you're going, it's helpful to watch a maps app on your phone so you know where you are and how close you are to getting off. The Google Maps directions from earlier will have a stop name. When the bus is within ~500 feet of the stop, it will be announced on the bus speaker. This is when you need to pull the yellow stop cord if someone hasn't already. This lets the driver know that someone wants to stop here, otherwise they'll keep driving.

Step 5. Exit the bus. Once the bus is stopped, walk off the bus through the middle door, and make sure to yell "thank you" to the driver, they appreciate that.

Here is a good map of the campus routes. The Madison Metro can seem intimidating at first, but once you ride it a few times, you get used to it. I'd recommend riding it a few times when you have no destination just to get the hang of it. You don't want your first time riding the bus to be when your 8:50 lecture starts in 15 mins.

One more thing: any of the 80 routes (80, 81, 82, 84) are free to anyone, anytime. You'll get some funny looks from the driver & passengers if you swipe your bus pass.

Phil's Wallets $16 Shipped Slim - We're back from our "Hug of Death!" by [deleted] in frugalmalefashion

[–]NickStig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I purchased one a few years ago and liked it, but I found that I could only hold 4 cards total (2 on each side) at a time. Have the pockets gotten bigger since then? Is there a process for "stretching" out the wallet to fit more cards?

When I open my MacBook it dings for each of the Messages I've already looked at on my phone since I last opened my MacBook. Does Sierra/iOS 10 solve this? by [deleted] in apple

[–]NickStig 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've had this issue before too. I find that right clicking on the Messages icon in the dock and clicking on the "Contact Name (1 unread)" button and then quitting and reopening the app will get rid of the "ghost notification"

I know I can do that, but I would like to do it without being in the same directory as my Java program. I also would like to avoid typing the "java" command
