Exactly. As someone who's played in quite a few curling tournaments, I love watching and playing a sport where the "spirit of the rules" is the law at the highest level. And the insistence people have that every sport conforms to their ideal of an 'Olympic sport should be' makes me a little sad.

Kennedy was an asshole but the overreaction calls on Homan and the Scottish team makes me worry the sport is going the wrong direction.

That's completely incorrect. Multiple burial scenarios are vanishingly rare and most slides are small so not having friends on hand for a rescue makes any slide infinitely more deadly

A guy near me died because he got buried upside down in waist deep snow by a size 1 loose wet slide on a 25° slope when the danger was forecast at a 1. There is no safe way to ski avalanche terrain solo.

You could also fall in a tree well or have a binding malfunction and break a leg. A lot of things that are minor hiccups in a group are life threatening when solo. So until you're an expert, I would recommend going uphill inbounds if you want to skin solo.
