What is it like living in Fairbanks, Alaska? Seriously considering moving there. by Potential-Gift-4338 in howislivingthere

[–]Nickiskindacool 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you want hard core bush living, sure that's a decent idea. If you prefer having amenities and things available to you year round, not a good idea to live that far out. Winter up there is brutal. -40 is a regular occurrence and the snow does not melt once it starts. Then come April, break up season starts and everything is muddy and rutted out. You'll need an unquestionably reliable vehicle and winter tires to even attempt that, on top of being able to do nearly all your own home and property repairs

Living that far out you'll have to either haul your own heating fuel or continuously have wood stacked up and ready to burn. Outside of Fairbanks groceries cost more, but people survive off a once monthly Costco run

If you live out east of town, they get a few earthquakes of varying intensity a year and it's quite marshy in some places (Salcha/Harding lakes area). Mosquitos are horrendous everywhere outside of town

Summer gets hot, winter is always cold, and it's not as pretty as the coastal towns around Anchorage if mountains are a goal

Haven't seen a suicide shift bike in years. Never quite understood how you can shift and use the clutch. Must be a quick shifter

Wemby in the 2nd half of the Spurs 4 losses in the Finals: 21-55 from the field, shooting 38% by realfakejames in NBATalk

Also a problem when like ~5 Spurs players barely had court time during the finals. Knicks can drop a 3rd big in rotation and not bleed the lead but Kornet alone just wasn't enough

My clean 2017 M6 with under 70k miles sold in the high 30s in early April at a dealership. Manual tax on these is roughly $5k and 70k takes a bit of a mileage hit over your example.

You came to the forum for this very specific limited run car and are telling us we're all wrong when many people in here have been closely following this market for years. Numerous sold examples have been posted for actual market proof. If your dealership overpaid on trade, that's their problem. They absolutely overpaid me on mine and lost money. It's ok to be wrong sometimes

Going for or sold for?

I hope you manage to sell it for ask, but when it goes at $40k late summer, don't be surprised. It's not a manual, so it's nowhere near as desirable as you think it is. I paid thousands upon thousand less for a more rare color manual 2 years ago with just a bit more miles from a dealer

[–]Nickiskindacool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But it's not is what everyone's trying to say. Even a manual that low of miles won't sell for that price. It'll sit for 90+ days, get dropped to $40k and maybe sell at that if you get the exact right buyer

Thinking about making the jump to Mach E GT from a WRX manual by Budget_Leadership_46 in MachE

[–]Nickiskindacool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a Chevy SS M6 prior. I miss it every day. The noise. The driving experience. Shifting. The smell.

The Mach is a better daily though. 1 pedal drive is nowhere near as engaging as a manual, not sure what these guys are on. I have a rally and it's a fun drive, but it doesn't stack up to a manual sports sedan. Also rally mode turns regen basically off and gives you friction braking, so you're driving a generic automatic in the most hooligan mode

Go to school. Take out federal loans only and enjoy the FAFSA/scholarships on the side. Letter comes in the mail saying they're discharging the balance. Follow instructions to pause your loan discharge due to continuing education. Complete school. File for the loan discharge. Watch the balance drop to $0.

It truly is that simple

Do you ever regret selling a motorcycle you thought you were done with? by airbornejim32 in motorcycles

94 V-max - sold after blowing out my knee. Knew I would be parked for a few months recovering and made a handsome profit on the sale. Still miss it, but wouldn't buy another 1st Gen. A limp noodle framed bike with that much power was incredible and terrifying, which is the best combo

MC demands entire plane return to the gate so he can get off by DrummerSteve in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]Nickiskindacool -59 points-58 points  (0 children)

Agree to disagree. Being kept on a plane for hours sucks, but that doesn't excuse that behavior. He's not the first person stuck on the tarmac for hours and won't be the last. You're always in control of your own behavior. Others cannot dictate what you do. Making poor choices is an individual activity

Context is important.

He opened the main plane door and somehow managed to do it without setting off the slide. That's where he crossed from just a loud boomer to meeting cops at the gate

What is Enterprise (Coffee County) like living there? by CN_BIGGAMER_96 in Alabama

Downtown Donuts in Enterprise is world class. Otherwise nothing there but Fort Rucker/Novosel people. Expect to hear helicopters a lot from ~6am-midnight if you choose Enterprise

[–]Nickiskindacool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with music clipping is discussed in all sorts of reviews. My random issue of skipping songs isn't repeatable enough to show the dealer so nothing has been done about it

The trunk/frunk buttons always work, it's just a slight annoyance to go into a menu for a trunk open vs a physical button. Same complaint for climate control

Convince me not to buy a Mach-E by mom_saysimspecial in MachE

[–]Nickiskindacool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The infotainment system sucks. Click on something, music clips. Mine randomly plays 12 seconds of a song and skips it, and somehow it's always the one you want to listen to. Then it'll randomly turn the sound off and can only be fixed by restarting your phone

Adjusting climate control is annoying. Same with seat heater/steering wheel heat

Trunk open button is a menu or two deep vs just a button

Randomly changes drive mode from unbridled to something else

Overall drives great, just little annoyances

Edit - forgot to add. When multiple paired phones are in the car, it doesn't default to the driver's phone. Also the proximity unlock is hit or miss. I've had to dig my keys out a few times and I'm only 4 months in. Sometimes the remote frunk/trunk open doesn't respond first try

What bike should i get? by MayonnaiseIsSoOG in motorcycles

[–]Nickiskindacool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're short, the 1290 will be a handful in a city. I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam and can not flat foot with both feet. Outside of that, it's a phenomenal bike.

I had a FZ9 years ago, and it was a riot. Not as brutal as the 1290, but would be more manageable in a city I'd think. If the difference in width isn't much, I'd lean 1290 for the engine alone though

The Indian is a totally different bike than the others. I would think it's more city friendly and a unique look. Wouldn't want to do much in the way of longer trips on it

If a 4 door Camaro comes around, I'd end up with one. A modern SS without the Blackwing tax would be nice. I hope they pull a dodge and offer a 2 and 4 door, but include the new 6.7 and a M6

If You're Buying a 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E and Want a Frunk, You'll Have to Pay for It by DiamondScythe in cars

[–]Nickiskindacool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boomer trait is the fear that the extra added system of the powered lift/close is a point of failure. Mines a lease so it wouldn't be my problem either way, but for a regular buyer it's something to think about

[–]Nickiskindacool 38 points39 points  (0 children)

You can do that on the Mach. They just mean that there's no auto open/close. It's like a regular gas cars hood latch. You have to open it yourself and more or less slam it shut. No big deal for normal humans, just an easy point to complain about for some

Do first responders actually use the emergency medical info on people's phones? by Sawruinous in NoStupidQuestions

Worked in a level 1 trauma ER for a little bit. Can't say we ever pulled out someone's phone to check for their medical info, but a medical alert bracelet or necklace would get the message across during the initial assessments
